PopMaster & Ten To The Top II
Yes, he was deliberately giving wrong answers although it wasn't until the last few that I realised. They got more ridiculous as he went on. Well done Jade on today's 39, I got the same scores as you and the same two Johnny Mathis songs. Round 1: 33 I Don't Know Much, the year Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 2 When A Child Is Born, Too Much Too Little Too Late

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
Hoppipolla is fantastic. I wanted to enter Ara Batur by Sigur Ros in the One Hit Wonder themed Bop Idol contest but saw that it had already been sent to BJSC 10 by Jester's Kingdom. Loneliness is also a great choice.

Julian rates every pre 1980 Top 40 hit
I like the use of the brass band and choir on You're A Lady. That would be my top song from that batch. Mouldy Old Dough is a fun and unusual number 1 single while Children Of The Revolution and John, I'm Only Dancing are both good songs.

This would be my top 10 from the decade, I've saved Yes for now as their best song is from the 90s. No 'Born Slippy' as there's a better song from Underworld in another decade. 1. Well done John on that double 39. I think this is the first time I can remember a contestant being given clues on the last question to help them not have a 0 point score. Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
That's a very good top two. Frozen and Like A Prayer are the two songs by Madonna I really like while Depeche Mode, of course, have lots of fantastic songs and Enjoy The Silence is one of their best ones and also the forum's favourite number 6 single.

Jim ranks the 1991 UK #1s
Innuendo is certainly the best number 1 single from 1991 and my third favourite chart topper of all time. I loved it the first time I heard it, I was so pleased that they attempted something so ambitious at this stage of their career. You're right that it is largely forgotten now, every time there's a question about it on Popmaster, the contestants can't find the correct answer.

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
I hadn't noticed the similarity between the opening of Wouldn't It Be Nice and No Surprises before. No Surprises is a great pick, Paranoid Android would be my favourite track from OK Computer. Right Here Right Now and Your Woman are both solid choices while Unfinished Sympathy is a fantastic song, certainly my favourite by Massive Attack and I always like watching the video for it. Using a proper orchestra for the strings instead of trying to replicate the sound in the studio paid off for them.

Essentially- The Pet Shop Boys Rate!
I didn't take part in Dandy's rate as I was posting my all time top 1000 at that time and I didn't want to give away the order of my favourite Pet Shop Boys songs so this one will have at least one new voter.

My record of the week 60 years ago
22nd - 28th September 1966 19. All I See Is You - Dusty Springfield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgRp0wiUI3M Another stunning, emotional vocal from Dusty, backed by dramatic orchestration. It will be her eighth top 10 hit. 33. Another Tear Falls - The Walker Brothers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LuCIUzAP3g Listening to this straight after Dusty makes me think of Scott Walker as being her male singer equivalent. He has the same mixture of power and emotion. The usual epic soundscape is here but the song is under two and a half minutes long and could have been extended a bit. 38. Sunny - Georgie Fame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbKzah2ndPI Just a week later, we have a cover of Bobby Hebb's song. It's decent enough but doesn't really do anything new with it. 39. In The Arms Of Love - Andy Williams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUAx8hJUg2c A plodding middle of the road song but it's from a film called What Did You Do In The War, Daddy? so might have more meaning to those who went to watch it. 40. Born A Woman - Sandy Posey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO7oq_0qosU A country style ballad in which she says that all women are treated badly by men except for her as she has a good one. Her next hit is called 'Single Girl' so I look forward to hearing what that one's going to say. Record of the week : 31. Guantanamera - The Sandpipers Dusty Springfield and The Walker Brothers were contenders to add to their previous ROTW awards but I've gone for this debut hit by the American vocal group. The song originated in Cuba in the 1920s. I like this arrangement with the Spanish guitar and the female backing vocalists singing the chorus. Since the 70s, I've known the tune as a football chant and it's still being used today, "you only sing when you're winning", "you're getting sacked in the morning" or "there's only one........(any player whose name has four syllables)" etc. I have heard this version before but never knew what it's called. The single will peak at number 7 and be the first of four hits for the group, spread across the next ten years.
