  1. Well done John for today's double 39. Round 1: 36 Franklin Round 2: 33 Mile High City 3 in 10: 1 Saturday Night At the Movies
  2. Well done John and Jade, both getting 39s today. Round 1: 33 Lazy Sunday Round 2: 27 The year, Curtis Stigers, Heaven 3 in 10: 3 Davy's On The Road Again, Blinded By The Light, Do Wah Diddy
  3. 1st - 7th September 1966 29. Ashes To Ashes - The Mindbenders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FoihfQYlrY A fairly slow paced song with some nice touches in the background but not standing out enough to get this week's award. It's a song with Eric Stewart on lead vocal that I haven't heard before so good to add to the collection. It will be the group's final top 40 hit. 33. I Can't Turn You Loose - Otis Redding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9sCoq-7s9s I like the horns and drums from the backing band but Otis' vocals are strained and uncomfortable to listen to. 36. Stop That Girl - Chris Andrews https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SjaWZwywzc A decent up-tempo pop song with the usual boisterous brass accompaniment. It will be his last hit but he's still going at the age of 83. 38. When I Come Home - The Spencer Davis Group After two number1 hits, this is a bit disappointing. They didn't intend to release it as a single but did so after it featured in the film 'The Ghost Goes Gear'. It will only get to number 12. Record of the week : 32. How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) - Junior Walker and the All Stars It's not the best week for new entries so I've gone with something familiar, even if I haven't heard this version before. I know the James Taylor version the most, rather than Marvin Gaye's original. This one sounds like it's live at a party with plenty of people clapping, whooping and singing along. A good, fun record with the saxophone solo being the highlight. It will be the first hit for the American group, peaking at number 22.
  4. One of my earliest memories from watching Top Of The Pops is the video for Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West) being shown every week it was at number 1. I like that Dr Hook song a lot, my favourite by them, just ahead of Sylvia's Mother.
  5. Oh thanks, we were both right then. ☺️
  6. My memory is of The Goodies saying "I don't think so!" on TOTP. Maybe David performed the song on two editions and Wings did the other one.
  7. This is the updated league table after 14 contests. Dandy extends his lead from one point to nine. Jim's win closes the gap to non-scoring Addy from twelve points down to just two while seven points for Dobbo keep him in touch with the top three. Lower down, there are four new entries which means that 37 posters now have top 10 finishes. 1. (1) 81 dandy* 2. (2) 72 Addy! 3. (3) 70 jimwatts 4. (3) 67 Dobbo 5. (5) 39 AH Gold 6. (6) 37 Severin 7. 8. Thanks, and well done John for today's 39s. Round 1: 36 The year Round 2: 33 Breathe Again 3 in 10: 1 Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
  9. Once again, congrats to Jim. I think I might have heard the song before but wasn't very familiar with it and well done Spiceboy finishing 2nd on your debut. The points dried up for my song so I'll have to settle for 19th place, thanks to all who gave 'I Want You' some points. Thanks Dandy for the slick and artful results presentation.
  10. It's not over, it's just that the leader can't be caught.
  11. Congratulations Jim, taking this with three votes to spare!
  12. I gave three points to Dolly before she died. I hadn't actually sent my vote at that stage but didn't change it so my score is definitely based on the song's merit.
  13. Good to see Fish getting two more 12 point scores after my own one.
  14. There's a lot of contenders for 4th place now.
  15. Spiceboy being Dolly Parton was one of the more obvious pairings.
  16. Thanks to all those who have given points to Elvis Costello so far, especially Jim for the 12. I'm stuck in mid-table now so it could be worse and could be better.
  17. That's a good top four and they seem to be running away from the rest but still plenty of time for one of the others to catch up.
  18. I was fairly sure that Popchartfreak was Scott Walker. It was a good discovery from him with the same big orchestration that the Walker Brothers had on their hits.
  19. I almost convinced myself that my own song was by Fish. I was struggling to think of who might have sent him, maybe AH Gold. Fish was a great decoy to make sure that no one would guess what my entry actually was.
  20. I like the graphics for the name of each voter and their entry.
  21. I always take it as a compliment. It looks more like a car sponge to me than a piece of cheese.
  22. The Kate Bush song didn't get a good reaction at the listenthrough. I'm going to tip Alanis Morissette for the win with Lauro Nyro as a dark horse. Dolly Parton can't be ruled out after this week's events.
  23. Well done Jade for today's 39. Round 1: 33 Peabo Bryson Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 2 Your Love Is King, Smooth Operator
