  2. A second world record falls, this time for Masai Russell in the women's 100m hurdles.
  3. The men's 400m hurdles world record has just been broken by Alison dos Santos in Zurich. Well done him.
  4. I hadn't noticed that every line of When Will I See You Again is a question. I also didn't know that Dreadlock Holiday had sold so much. I wonder if either of 10cc's other number 1 singles will appear.
  5. I've listened to the first eight songs. I thought I recognised the name Thunder Bae. She's the new lead singer for the revived Propaganda who you might know for Dr Mabuse and Duel in the 80s. She sang on their 2024 album. The original singers, Claudia and Susanne, are now in the other version of the group, xPropaganda.
  6. Well done John and Tylky for today's 39s. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 Time After Time, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, True Colors
  7. Voted. I did a short commentary about my own song, as requested. There was a high quality of entries and my whole top 10 were very good.
  8. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 27 Higher Ground, Des'ree 3 in 10: 3 The Air That I Breathe, He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, Bus Stop
  9. Well done John and Jade for today's 39s. Round 1: 30 Young Americans, the year Round 2: 24 Stan, Nazareth, Good Thing 3 in 10: 3 A Winter's Tale, Rock On, Hold Me Close
  10. 25th - 31st August 1966 38. Blowin' In The Wind - Stevie Wonder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OUJ_ODGlCE Covering a Bob Dylan song this early in his career is unexpected and doing it in the Motown style doesn't really suit it. 39. Headline News - Edwin Starr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-za5o1l7Yo The headline news here is that he's found a woman he loves, so not very exciting. The backing vocalists sing "extra, extra" and "read all about it". Sadly, the days are long gone when people on street corners would try and persuade passers by to buy their newspapers. Record of the week : 32. Big Time Operator - Zoot Money and the Big Roll Band A lively modern jazz song in the style of Georgie Fame or Alan Price with Zoot Money putting plenty of effort into his vocal. One of the members of the Big Roll Band is Andy Summers who will go on to be part of The Police. The single will peak at number 25 and will be the group's only hit.
  11. I Feel Love is the best single to appear so far and Wuthering Heights is also fantastic. The Floral Dance shows us that anything could be a big hit in the 70s with the right amount of promotion.
  12. It's usually two weeks.
  13. So we will start at 8pm here : https://sync-tube.de/room/zvz7L49i
  14. Thanks, and well done to Tylky for today's double 39. Round 1: 36 The year Round 2: 33 The year, Ghetto 3 in 10: 1 Listen To Your Heart (the others I know didn't come to me)
  15. The winner of the previous contest is always one of the three warm up songs. One of the others will be the song I think the Sophie B Hawkins vetoed person should have switched to. I might play Marlene as the other one, then.
  16. Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumours Nik Kershaw - The Riddle Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love Tears For Fears - Shout Heaven 17 - This Is Mine No room for Chicago, Murray Head, Foreigner, Sal Solo
  17. Yes, the listenthrough will be tomorrow at 8pm.
  18. See My Baby Jive is my favourite Wizzard song with its glorious production. Tragedy and Fernando are also good ones.
  19. Interesting, Two Tribes down in 118th place is a bit of a surprise and Pass The Dutchie (49th) is higher than I would have expected. I also wouldn't have expected Another Brick In The Wall to be as high as 11th.
  20. Round 1: 36 The Night (she was too quick, it wasn't one I knew instantly) Round 2: 39 💥 Tie-break: 3 out of 4 3 in 10: 1 Deeper Underground
  21. Arsenal 3-0 Coventry City Hull City 1-2 Manchester United Everton 1-0 Crystal Palace Ipswich Town 1-1 Sunderland Nottingham Forest 1-1 Leeds United Brentford 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Aston Villa Manchester City 2-1 AFC Bournemouth Newcastle United 1-2 Liverpool Fulham 0-2 Chelsea
  22. Thanks all. Round 1: 33 Eagle Eye Cherry, Gabrielle Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 Never Tear Us Apart, Need You Tonight, Suicide Blonde
  23. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, Angel Fingers, See My Baby Jive
  24. 18th - 24th August 1966 25. Too Soon To Know - Roy Orbison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wec39F-SG8g Roy's biggest hit since 'Oh, Pretty Woman' two years ago, reaching number 3. It's a cover of a Don Gibson song and showcases his vocal ability very well with the piano and some strings in the background. 33. Distant Drums - Jim Reeves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itKY391aMRY Another posthumous hit but this one will spend five weeks at number 1. An orchestral backing has been added to his original recording but it's not much better than his last few singles and it's certainly a surprise that it took off the way it did. 34. Working In The Coalmine - Lee Dorsey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtM4p7UVGoo An R&B song about always being exhausted after a hard day's work at the coal mine with some pickaxe sound effects. I liked it. 39. Warm And Tender Love - Percy Sledge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm26O_p6KK8 This is Percy's only other top 40 hit and it's another ballad with that pleasant organ sound and some brass. It's quite good but not in the same class as When A Man Loves A Woman. Record of the week : 35. Got To Get You Into My Life - Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers This is quite familiar to me and I think it's this version I've heard a few times rather than the Beatles original from their Revolver album which I've also had a listen to. I think I prefer this cover, produced by Paul McCartney, which has a broader sound to it. There's a fine lead vocal and the horns, piano and drums all add to the song's appeal. It's two years since the group's first top 40 hit and they will have no more after this one which will peak at number 6.
  25. Well done John for that double 39 today. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 36 The Spice Girls (couldn't think of either) Tie-break: 2 out of 2 3 in 10: 3 Whole Again, Eternal Flame, The Tide Is High
