I've said in previous editions, features should not be allowed. It's not fair on the acts that don't need them.

Sam looks a bit like Putin in that chair.

Great to see New Order and Depeche Mode through with two of their best singles. The Bananarama song is a good one too.

I know most of the songs well but I had a listen to the whole of the playlist and have sent my vote in now.

Round 1: 36 Music Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 Pray, Sure, Rule The World

Monday will be fine for me.

I've enjoyed following this from the 60s to the 20s, very well presented and your commentaries were always an interesting read. Out of your number 1s for each decade, I would choose 'Enjoy The Silence' as being the best one.

So the eliminated mentors will feel bad for leaving the competition, the judges will feel bad for putting them out and the people who progress will feel lucky they got a judge that favours either pop or more alt leaning pop. Nobody's going to be happy at the end of this round.

Round 1: 33 Your Swaying Arms Round 2: 33 Rock'n'Roll Lady Tie-break: 4 out of 6 3 in 10: 3 Xanadu, Landslide, Long Live Love

13th - 19th October 1966 27. Stop Stop Stop - The Hollies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrBZgIPGAz0 The Hollies go from Bus Stop to three stops for their next single. It's notable for the banjo which is played through a tape delay to give it that echoey sound. This is another good song from the group and will go as high as number 2. 34. Time Drags By - Cliff Richard and The Shadows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVVfl_9VDQI This is a bit different for Cliff with a bluegrass style to the music and barber shop vocals from the Shadows. The harmonica was played by Jimmy Page. Not bad. 35. Beauty Is Only Skin Deep - The Temptations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjjSwKzeLdw Personality is more important than looks in a girl is the gist of this one which has the usual Motown sound. 39. High Time - Paul Jones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fe7m9a_JzQ The first solo single since leaving Manfred Mann will be a success, reaching number 4. It's quite simple, musically and lyrically, but has a catchy chorus. 40. All That I Am - Elvis Presley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrnEaGHyRnA A song from Elvis' latest movie, 'Spinout'. He sings it well but otherwise it's a mundane ballad. Record of the week : 19. Reach Out I'll Be There - The Four Tops After their first three hits all failed to reach the top 20, the Four Tops finally have the big hit single they deserve. I love the drum sound on the intro that sounds like a galloping horse and then Levi Stubbs comes in with that marvellous lead vocal backed by the harmonies from the other three. The chorus also stands out, making this one of the best number 1s from the year. It will spend three weeks at the top of the chart.

Thanks, and well done John for today's 39. Round 1: 36 The Mavericks Round 2: 27 Forgotten Town, the year, Rockabilly 3 in 10: 3 Ferry Cross The Mersey, How Do You Do It, You'll Never Walk Alone

Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 36 Donny and Marie Osmond 3 in 10: 3 Get The Party Started, Family Portrait, Try (that's the first time I've got 3 for Pink when she's come up, I remember Try from the number 8 poll)

Round 1: 24 Every Day Is A Winding Road, the year, Forever Love Round 2: 36 Love You Less And Less 3 in 10: 3 Russians, Englishman In New York, Fields Of Gold

Arsenal 2-0 Leeds United Aston Villa 1-1 Brentford Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth Ipswich 2-2 Fulham Sunderland 1-2 Brighton Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest Hull City 0-0 Everton Liverpool 2-2 Manchester City Coventry City 1-2 Newcastle

1st Kate Bush - Cloudbusting Marvellous, my favourite song by her 2nd Marina, Aquamarina - I Am Not A Puppet 3rd Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Bittersweet 4th Adele - Chasing Pavements 5th Robyn - Keep This Fire Burning 6th Jessie Ware - Hot N Heavy 7th Agnes - 24 Hours 8th Leona Lewis featuring Avicii - Collide 9th Zara Larsson - Can't Tame Her

1st Gary Numan - My Name is Ruin 2nd Darin - Fantasi 3rd Damien Rice - Cannonball 4th Sam Fender - Get You Down 5th Roosevelt - Montreal 6th Sam Smith - I'm Not the Only One 7th Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Desire 8th Tom Grennan - Boys Don't Cry 9th HRVY - Hesitate This continues to be the weakest category so the Bobby Darin song having a catchy chorus is enough to put it in 2nd place.

6th - 12th October 1966 17. I Can't Control Myself - The Troggs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzHpGjvRgTc Their third top 2 hit of 1966 and it's another good one but too similar to the others to stand out. It will be banned from radio airplay in the UK and the US for its suggestive lyrics. 29. I've Got You Under My Skin - The Four Seasons with Frankie Valli https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_D_fPpE8uA The first charting version of the 1936 song made famous by Frank Sinatra. The Four Seasons sound very like the Beach Boys here with the vocal harmonies and quite an elaborate production. 36. Summer Wind - Frank Sinatra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY8mf_0m2xA Having just been mentioned, Frank Sinatra now appears with a cover of a German song from 1965 with new English lyrics. It's a fairly standard example of this type of music and will not climb any higher than this position after he reached number 1 with his last release. 37. There Will Never Be Another You - Chris Montez https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmU2yrHXgXY The third cover of the day, this song was written for a 1942 film. Chris's version is a simple but pleasant listen. Apart from a re-issue of 'Let's Dance', it will be his last top 40 hit. He's still going at the age of 83. Record of the week : 35. No Milk Today - Herman's Hermits I've chosen this song about a household putting out the 'No Milk Today' sign for their milkman as one of them has moved out, to the despair of the man who loves her, reducing the amount of milk they need each day. The writer, Graham Gouldman, was inspired by seeing such a sign in a street and wondering what the reason might be. He later recorded the song himself in 1968. The song has a good melody to it and I liked the bell chimes. The single will peak at number 7, the group's fifth top 10 hit.

I had a listen to Pyramids and enjoyed it a lot, I can see why you put it in first place. This is my top 10, some of them didn't appear in my all time top 1000 chart as they came out after I compiled it or I discovered them later on. 1. Secrets Of Angels - Karnataka 2. Untouchable Parts 1 and 2 - Anathema 3. And I Will Kiss - Underworld and Dame Evelyn Glennie 4. Gaza - Marillion 5. Routine - Steven Wilson 6. Carousel - East India Youth 7. There Used To Be A Darkness - Mikko Joensuu 8. I Hold You - Clann 9. Promises - Nero 10. Touch - Daft Punk

Well done Geraint, John and Jade for all those 39s. Round 1: 30 Love At First Sight, Appleby Round 2: 36 I Wanna Be The Only One (I always forget the title of that song, I got as far as The Only One this time) 3 in 10: 3 Come Back My Love, The Boy From New York City, It's Raining

Round 1: 36 Whitney Houston Round 2: 36 Down Deep Inside 3 in 10: 2 Dance Dance Dance, Le Freak

Thanks, Jade. Round 1: 33 The Four Tops Round 2: 33 Three Dog Night 3 in 10: 3 Country House, Girls & Boys, To The End

Confirmed something. It's difficult to know how much of a risk to take now so I hope I've made the right decision.

One other thing to note, Kate Bush had 46 points from the first 13 votes but nothing from the last 19 votes so was stuck on 46 points for the rest of the voting period.

Thanks to everyone for taking part and commenting on the results, I enjoyed hosting the contest. The theme was originally going to be acts that released their first record before 1990 but the mods persuaded me to include acts from the 90s as long as there was still a gap of 10 years to the song entered as they thought the original theme might be too difficult for some people and reduce the number of entries. I think they were right but the original idea would have excluded most of that top 10 and left room for Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Aha, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Sparks, Marillion, Yes, The Cure etc who no one picked here.
