  1. Thanks to Colm and Bror for those high scores.
  2. Thanks to all who have given points to Rolloland so far. It's great to be as high as second place. I don't think that will last.
  3. 45. Kygo featuring Conrad Sewell - Firestone 877pts Writers - Kyrre Gorvell-Dahll, Conrad Sewell, Martijn Konijnenburg Top scores - danG 49, Jason 48, jimwatts 47 Low scores - Scene 1, Leonardo 1, chartjack2 1 Average score - 20.4 Firestone was the first of ten top 40 hits for the Norwegian DJ/producer, each of them with a different featured singer. In this case, it was the Australian singer Conrad Sewell who reached number 1 in his own country with 'Start Again'.
  4. 46. XTM & DJ Chucky presents Annia - Fly On The Wings Of Love 874pts Writer - Jorgen Olsen Top scores - JackJones 48, CowTzy 46, Alex! 43 Low scores - DaTilt 1, DarrenJ77 2, dandy* 2 Average score - 20.3 Fly On The Wings Of Love by the Olsen Brothers won the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest for Denmark. In the same year, came this cover version by Spanish dance act XTM which wasn't a hit in the UK until 2003. It peaked at number 8 three times in a chart run of 9-8-12-9-8-9-11-10-8-10.
  5. 47. Nero - Guilt 872pts Writers - Joseph Ray, Daniel Stephens, Alana Watson Top scores - danG 50, King Rollo 49, Bror 47 Low scores - Mango 1, Scone1 1, Uls2000 1 Average score - 20.3 Guilt was the third single to be taken from Nero's debut album 'Welcome Reality' although the album itself had not yet been released. The next single, 'Promises', went all the way to number 1.
  6. Round 1: 36 Lighthouse Family Round 2: 36 Night To Remember 3 in 10: 0 I think I got 0 the last time he came up, I need to remember two of them start with 'How'.
  7. Everything I Own I'm not keen on so it's in the right place. Jack Your Body was certainly an unusual number 1 for that time but not one I really liked that much so I wouldn't put it much higher up the list.
  8. 48. Evanescence - Going Under 851pts Writers - Amy Lee, Ben Moody, David Hodges Top scores - CowTzy 49, detonate 48, ...ready for it 46 Low scores - Jaz13music 1, Julian 2, AH Gold 2, marcinjaro 2, chartjack2 2 Average score - 19.8 This was the follow-up to the Arkansas band's number 1 single 'Bring Me To Life'. They went on to have two more top 10 singles, 'My Immortal' and 'Call Me When You're Sober'.
  9. 49. Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi 832pts Writers - Lou Deprijck, Yvan Lacomblez Top scores - Uls2000 45, Jason 45, Popchartfreak 44 Low scores - DarrenJ77 1, musicfan97 1, LKF 1, chrissmith276 1 Average score - 19.3 This was intended as a pastiche of punk rock and was a UK hit in 1978. Plastic Bertrand's real name is Roger Jouret. Both he and the song's writer, Lou Deprijck, have claimed to be the vocalist on its recording. Plastic Bertrand had one more top 40 hit and went on to represent Luxembourg in the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 21st place out of 22.
  10. 50. The Stone Roses - Fools Gold / What The World Is Waiting For 828pts Writers - Ian Brown, John Squire Top scores - Jaz13music 49, DaTilt 46, Jester 44 Low scores - rio309 2, deepinside 2, JackJones 2 Average score - 19.2 This was the single that won a tie-break over Bjork's 'Hyperballad' to qualify from the first semi-final so it's not a surprise to see it finish in last place. What The World Is Waiting For was originally intended to be the A side but the record label's A&R man really liked Fools Gold. The band were not convinced so the single ended up as a double A side. Fools Gold is now obviously the better known song.
  11. Thanks, Scone. Number 50 is imminent.
  12. Rolloland has voted.
  13. @Scone1 Further to that, I've now noticed you gave two scores for Bat Out Of Hell (31 and 19) and no score for In The End. Can you also let me know what your scores should be for those two songs. Thanks.
  14. A shame to see Erasure, Nik Kershaw and Blondie go out in that round. I agree that Blondie have many songs that are better than One Way Or Another. They might have a chance of winning the Platinum Paige round.
  15. Hi Scone, I'm just checking each song has 43 votes and have 44 for Venus by Shocking Blue which I've traced back to your vote. You gave it 34 and 22 points. I didn't notice that at the time. One of these scores should be for Yesterday by the Beatles which doesn't appear in your vote. Can you let me know which one of these scores is for Shocking Blue and which one is for The Beatles. Thanks.
  16. Well done John on Friday's double 39. Round 1: 36 The year Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 2 U Can't Touch This, Pray
  17. Looks like it was an odd number of voters then. Commander Eye Sack is not needed.
  18. Yes, I was just about to add the last vote to the scoreboard so I can add yours as well.
  19. VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 42 people who voted. The results will start tomorrow.
  20. Private Investigations is such an unlikely number 2 hit single, it's sound is pretty unique. I didn't know about Thomas Dolby until I heard Windpower. I went on to buy the album it comes from, 'The Golden Age Of Wireless', and it became one of my favourite albums from the 80s. The Message, All Of My Heart and Leave In Silence are further highlights from that batch and Ruff Mix is one of my favourite novelty hits.
  21. There are guest voters as well. All I meant is if, for example, 33 people vote, you can't get any draws as the closest possible score would be 17-16. If an even number, like 34 people vote, you could get a 17-17 draw.
  22. As long as there is an odd number of voters, there won't be any deadlocks.
  23. 10th - 16th March 1966 29. Woman - Peter and Gordon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4oHM5faTDo Written by 'Bernard Webb' who was quickly worked out by the music press to be Paul McCartney. I like the use of the cellos and brass instruments but otherwise this is not standing out. 31. Hold Tight! - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv60e_jQBf8 The rhythm to this one was inspired by "a clapping craze at football grounds". That particular rhythm has endured to this day at football stadiums. The song is a good foot stomper with some inventive guitar work in the second half. 39. I Got You (I Feel Good) - James Brown and the Famous Flames https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTdihu-mp90 A song well known by all generations, this has some great contributions from the brass section and saxophone as well as James Brown's distinctive vocal. Record of the week : 33. Substitute - The Who I could easily have picked the James Brown song but I've gone with this one. It's catchy enough to appeal to the pop fans from the time but also has that gritty guitar sound to satisfy the alternative crowd. The lead and backing vocals plus the drums also make this a standout single. It will reach a peak position of number 5.
  24. 34 votes so far. If you haven't voted yet, you have the rest of the weekend to do so. A final reminder for @Gary Feld , you need to give scores to the other 16 songs if you want your vote to be included, thanks.
