Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
38 points Brownstone - If You Love Me Katy B - Broken Record DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince - Summertime K-Ci & JoJo - All My Life From 1991, this was the second top 40 hit for the duo, five years after their first one, 'Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble'. There is some 90s R&B from both Brownstone and K-Ci & JoJo. Katy B's stay of execution is now over, she is definitely out this time.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
36 points The Beautiful South - You Keep It All In Jason Donovan - Hang On To Your Love Deacon Blue - Real Gone Kid Erasure - Breath Of Life Billy Joel - An Innocent Man When I reviewed 'Uptown Girl' on my 1983 number 1 singles ranking recently, I said that this was my favourite track from the album it's on so it's good to hear it now. The other four songs are all from 1988 to 1992. We have the Beautiful South's follow-up to their number 2 hit 'Song For Whoever', the first of three top 10 hits by Deacon Blue, the last of seven consecutive top 10 singles by Jason Donovan and Erasure's eleventh top 10 hit.

35 points Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World Nicki Minaj - Pound The Alarm Simply Red - Stars From 1991, this was Simply Red's third top 10 single and also the title track from their fourth album which was the UK's best selling album in both 1991 and 1992, the first time this had been achieved since 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' did the same thing in 1970 and 1971. Kylie Minogue and Nicki Minaj both have one song left.

34 points Cascada - Miracle Pulp - Help The Aged Presidents Of The United States Of America - Peaches Sash! featuring Shannon - Move Mania Texas - I Don't Want A Lover We had The Stranglers on five points with Peaches and now another song called Peaches comes along. The Seattle band had four top 40 hits from 1995/96 with this one giving them their highest chart position. Also from the mid 90s, comes Help The Aged, the last of five top 10 hits by Pulp. I Don't Want A Lover from 1989 was Texas' debut single. They would have to wait another eight years for their next top 10 hit, 'Say What You Want'.

33 points Alexandra Burke - Broken Heels Caesars - Jerk It Out The Futureheads - Hounds Of Love Fetty Wap - Trap Queen The Sex Pistols - Holidays In The Sun Robbie Williams - Lovelight This was the Sex Pistols' fourth single and the last with John Lydon as their lead singer. The lyrics were inspired by a trip to Berlin they had taken to escape the hysteria surrounding them in London. Robbie Williams loses the last of his three songs while the other four acts here are making their one and only appearance.

32 points Taio Cruz featuring Kylie Minogue and Travie McCoy - Higher The Divine Comedy - National Express JLS featuring Tinie Tempah - Eyes Wide Shut The Lumineers - Ho Hey The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer In The City National Express is the only top 10 hit for the quirky Northern Irish group. Also here is a Billboard chart topper from 1966, Summer In The City. Kylie Minogue is a regular on these polls and makes her first appearance this year as the featured singer on Taio Cruz's single.

31 points The Jesus And Mary Chain - April Skies New Order - Crystal Sharam - PATT (Party All The Time) From 2001, this was the first original New Order release since 1993. The Killers got their name from the band who play in the song's video and Brandon Flowers has subsequently performed Crystal on stage with New Order as well as Bernard Sumner performing it with The Killers. From 1987, April Skies is the highest peaking single for The Jesus And Mary Chain. Iran is represented here by Sharam with his interpolation of the Eddie Murphy song.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
30 points Angel City - Do You Know (I Go Crazy) Bowling For Soup - Girl All The Bad Guys Want Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Goin' Down Ariana Grande - Breathin' The Human League - Human George Michael - Flawless (Go To The City) Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl Sugababes - About A Girl The Selecter - On My Radio Yesterday, I mentioned Bucks Fizz having their first top 10 hit for three years. In the same year, 1986, the Human League did the same thing with Human which was also a US number 1 single. Unlike Bucks Fizz, they did manage one more top 10 hit nine years later. Ariana Grande loses the last of her three songs while Sugababes lose the second out of their three. From 1979, On My Radio was the only top 10 single for 2 Tone group The Selecter.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
29 points DJ Dado - X-Files Heart - All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You Herbie Hancock - Rockit Josh Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness Herbie Hancock had been releasing music since 1962 but this was his first top 10 hit. Godley & Creme's innovative video won five MTV Video Music awards. Josh Wink's Higher State Of Consciousness has another go after the remix featured in the number 7 poll last year but once again fails to qualify for the semi-finals. A version of the X-Files theme also appearing here means that the only non instrumental on 29 points is Heart's third and final top 10 single.

Sorry, but the early evening is the only convenient time for me to do the results. There is about half an hour between each post for anyone who is online at that time to comment.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
Yes, it should have 15 but it was too fiddly for me to adjust the scores of all the people who changed their votes after dropping Donna Summer so some song's scores might be out by one point. I've checked the scores of all the songs near the cutoff point to make sure they are correct after any adjustments to people's votes. One person just swapped I Feel Love for a new song so that one was added to the scoreboard.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
28 points Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin - I Like It Jimmy Helms – Gonna Make You An Offer You Can't Refuse Jax Jones and Years & Years - Play Alicia Keys - Doesn't Mean Anything Scouting For Girls - Elvis Ain't Dead Ed Sheeran - Supermarket Flowers From 1973, this was the only solo hit for Jimmy Helms but he had some more in the late 80s/early 90s with Londonbeat, including the number 2 single 'I've Been Thinking About You'. I thought the fashions here didn't look like 1973 but I see this performance was filmed in 1984. Elsewhere, there's a 21st Century look to this list with Ed Sheeran making his second appearance of the day.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
27 points Bucks Fizz - New Beginning (Mamba Seyra) Cola Boy - 7 Ways To Love Electric Light Orchestra - Telephone Line Foreigner - Waiting For A Girl Like You Kele Le Roc - My Love Annie Lennox - Walking On Broken Glass Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade Tina Turner - I Don't Wanna Lose You With one of Louis Clark's best string arrangements, this was the third single to be taken from ELO's sixth album, 'A New World Record'. The dialling tone at the start was recorded by dialling a real American telephone number which Jeff Lynne knew would not be answered. The drum heavy New Beginning (Mamba Seyra) was Bucks Fizz's first top 10 hit for three years but sadly their last. Kele Le Roc loses the second of her two songs and it's also the end for the fabulous soft rock classic, Waiting For A Like You by Foreigner.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
26 points Freemasons featuring Bailey Tzuke - Uninvited Inner City - Big Fun Michael Jackson with The Jackson Five - I Want You Back Love Inc. - Broken Bones Little Richard - Good Golly Miss Molly Mitski - My Love Mine All Mine Hazel O'Connor - Will You The Orb - Blue Room Holly Valance - State Of Mind Barry White - Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe Robbie Williams - Lazy Days In 1979, Judie Tzuke reached number 16 with the stunning ballad 'Stay With Me Till Dawn', one of my favourite songs from that year. Eight years later, she gave birth to Bailey who sung on this cover of the Alanis Morissette song in 2007. Another stunning ballad is Will You by Hazel O'Connor from 1981 with that long saxophone solo at the end. We've already had the group Big Fun on six points, now they appear as a song title for Inner City. Robbie Williams loses a second song but still has one left. With a length of 39 minutes and 58 seconds, Blue Room by The Orb is the longest ever chart single.

25 points Ace Of Base - Cruel Summer Double - The Captain Of Her Heart Sabrina Johnston - Peace Johnny Keating - The Theme From 'Z Cars' (Johnny Todd) Ed Sheeran - Don't Owner Of A Lonely Heart by Max Graham vs. Yes scored 25 points but has been disqualified as it peaked at number 9 From 1986, this was the only top 40 hit for the Swiss duo. Ace Of Base's cover of Cruel Summer bows out but the original is still to come. The theme from Z Cars was a hit in 1962 but lives on at Everton FC.

My record of the week 60 years ago
20th - 26th January 1966 30. Like A Baby - Len Barry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHtASr311eE This is OK, with good contributions from the brass section, but sounds too similar to 1-2-3. 31. Love's Just A Broken Heart - Cilla Black https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XObJClY7kc This builds up nicely and she delivers an accomplished vocal. There were several lines with words ending in 't' and she made sure she made the 't' heard clearly. After her last single only got to number 17, this one will return her to the top 5. 33. Girl - St. Louis Union https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8jPEieHVEQ This cover of a Beatles song will be their only hit. I don't know the original that well but I think it will be a lot better than this version. 35. Thunderball - Tom Jones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7SWNnGECjU One of the weaker James Bond themes despite Tom Jones' best efforts. It will go no higher than this position. 38. I Stand Accused - The Merseybeats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kauiPm1d4NI The lyrics reminded me of 'Love In The First Degree' by Bananarama. I liked the harpsicord and other instruments chugging away in the background. This will be the last of their seven top 40 hits, they are still going today. Record of the week : 40. Mirror Mirror - Pinkerton's Assorted Colours Nothing really stood out but I enjoyed this one more than the others and I think it would grow on me with a few more listens as it has the sort of chorus that will stick in my head. I liked the use of the autoharp and the orchestration. The single will reach a peak position of number 9 and be the only top 40 hit for the group from Rugby. They will split up in 1969.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
I've finally figured out what happened. When I'm adding each person's vote to the scoreboard, the songs are listed alphabetically by the artist name. I had Katy B under B and K so her 27 and 11 point scores were on different pages. That's a relief to me as I'm always careful to take enough time adding each person's vote to the scores to avoid any errors.

24 points Backstreet Boys - I'll Never Break Your Heart Lonnie Donegan - Rock Island Line Bobby Darin - La Mer (Beyond The Sea) James Morrison - Wonderful World Nelly - Just A Dream Ultravox - All Stood Still As mentioned earlier today, Midge Ure had top 10 hits with three different groups, the others being Slik and Visage whose Fade To Grey is part of this poll as well. All Stood Still was the follow-up to Vienna (if you don't count that re-issued single from their old label). Bobby Darin's single goes back to 1960 while Lonnie Donegan's Rock Island Line goes back even further, to 1956. It was the first of seventeen top 10 hits for him, including three number 1s.

23 points Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street Mai Tai - History Vanity Fare - Early In The Morning This was the first hit for the Dutch based Guyanese group. The follow-up, 'Body And Soul' reached number 9 but they were soon history with no further top 40 hits. It's back to the sixties for Vanity Fare's biggest hit and the fourth of six top 10 singles by Bob Dylan.

22 points Echo and The Bunnymen - The Cutter Gerry and The Pacemakers - Ferry 'Cross The Mersey The Game - Dreams Jermaine Jackson - Let's Get Serious Rizzle Kicks - Down With The Trumpets Louis Tomlinson featuring Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals - Back To You From 1983, The Cutter was one of three top 10 hits for Echo and The Bunnymen. One of the others also reached number 8 and is still to come. They came from Liverpool, as did Gerry and The Pacemakers who are here with Ferry 'Cross The Mersey from 1964 which went onto be a number 1 in a new version by Gerry and other Liverpool musicians in 1989. Another member of the Jackson family loses a song while Louis Tomlinson is the second One Direction member to appear today.
