The Pop Factor: Season 3 • Boot Camp: Part One in Barcelona (Groups)
1st Ultravox - Accent on Youth 2nd New Order - Love Vigilantes 3rd Depeche Mode - Photographic 4th Sade - Pearls 5th iamamiwhoami - shadowshow 6th Texas - Like Lovers (Holding On) 7th M83 - Lower Your Eyelids to Die With the Sun 8th Years & Years - Ties 9th Bananarama - Bad For Me 10th Fontaines D.C. - Sundowner Good songs from the top 3 and that Sade song was a nice discovery, better than the singles I know by them. The M83 tune had a promising start but didn't really develop beyond that.

Julian rates every pre 1980 Top 40 hit
10cc making their chart debut shortly after ELO. Lol Creme was the only member of the group who could sing those really high notes. Goodbye To Love by The Carpenters is the next best song from that batch.

My record of the week 60 years ago
29th September - 5th October 1966 17. Have You Seen Your Mother Baby Standing In The Shadow - The Rolling Stones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFv38gUOTRw I like the bass guitar on this and the trumpets but it's not one of their better efforts and will break their run of eight consecutive top 3 singles, only reaching number 5. 30. Lady Godiva - Peter and Gordon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-LLvEuSKnA An update of the Lady Godiva story set in the present day with the banjo and tuba making it sound a bit like the theme to Steptoe And Son. It will be their final top 40 single. A cover by Alex Day will be a top 20 hit in 2012. 36. Dear Mrs Applebee - David Garrick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgbGLWu4ayA There's a banjo on this one as well and some trumpets. Lyrically, it's a similar theme to Sylvia's Mother by Dr Hook. I quite enjoyed it. 37. Sunny - Cher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTatk7uCbDg For the third week running, we have a version of this song. It's a tribute to her husband Sonny but the title's spelling remains the same. I prefer it to Georgie Fame's version but the original is certainly the best. Record of the week : 34. Somewhere My Love - The Mike Sammes Singers With nothing standing out, I've gone for something I haven't heard for more than 50 years which brings back some childhood nostalgia. My mother would have the radio tuned to Radio 2 rather than Radio 1 and this would have been played a lot, even in the early 70s. Like last week's winner by The Sandpipers, it's just a lovely melody sung well by the choir and I always like the balalaika when it's used in a song to give it that European sound. The music is based on Lara's Theme from Doctor Zhivago and the song was the only top 40 hit for the group who were mainly used on other people's records or TV shows. The single spent 26 weeks in the top 40, in two separate chart runs, but only one of them in the top 20, peaking at number 14.

PopMaster & Ten To The Top II
Yes, he was deliberately giving wrong answers although it wasn't until the last few that I realised. They got more ridiculous as he went on. Well done Jade on today's 39, I got the same scores as you and the same two Johnny Mathis songs. Round 1: 33 I Don't Know Much, the year Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 2 When A Child Is Born, Too Much Too Little Too Late

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
Hoppipolla is fantastic. I wanted to enter Ara Batur by Sigur Ros in the One Hit Wonder themed Bop Idol contest but saw that it had already been sent to BJSC 10 by Jester's Kingdom. Loneliness is also a great choice.

Julian rates every pre 1980 Top 40 hit
I like the use of the brass band and choir on You're A Lady. That would be my top song from that batch. Mouldy Old Dough is a fun and unusual number 1 single while Children Of The Revolution and John, I'm Only Dancing are both good songs.

This would be my top 10 from the decade, I've saved Yes for now as their best song is from the 90s. No 'Born Slippy' as there's a better song from Underworld in another decade. 1.
