  2. Well done John on that double 39. I think this is the first time I can remember a contestant being given clues on the last question to help them not have a 0 point score. Round 1: 15 Al Green, the year, Blur, McGregor, Distant Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 I Go To Sleep, Back On The Chain Gang, 2000 Miles
  3. I've managed to get the Spotify playlist to embed now.

  5. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 33 Des'ree, Forgive Me 3 in 10: 0
  6. That's a very good top two. Frozen and Like A Prayer are the two songs by Madonna I really like while Depeche Mode, of course, have lots of fantastic songs and Enjoy The Silence is one of their best ones and also the forum's favourite number 6 single.
  7. I've removed the voter list and will put it on a new post.
  8. No, it reverted to its original state by itself.
  9. Synctube room for this evening, 8pm start: https://sync-tube.de/room/zvz7L49i
  10. A reminder that the listening session will be this evening at 8pm.
  11. Innuendo is certainly the best number 1 single from 1991 and my third favourite chart topper of all time. I loved it the first time I heard it, I was so pleased that they attempted something so ambitious at this stage of their career. You're right that it is largely forgotten now, every time there's a question about it on Popmaster, the contestants can't find the correct answer.
  12. Well done John for today's double 39. Round 1: 36 Finish What You've Started Round 2: 30 Demon, Barry White 3 in 10: 2 Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are
  13. I hadn't noticed the similarity between the opening of Wouldn't It Be Nice and No Surprises before. No Surprises is a great pick, Paranoid Android would be my favourite track from OK Computer. Right Here Right Now and Your Woman are both solid choices while Unfinished Sympathy is a fantastic song, certainly my favourite by Massive Attack and I always like watching the video for it. Using a proper orchestra for the strings instead of trying to replicate the sound in the studio paid off for them.
  14. I didn't take part in Dandy's rate as I was posting my all time top 1000 at that time and I didn't want to give away the order of my favourite Pet Shop Boys songs so this one will have at least one new voter.
  15. 22nd - 28th September 1966 19. All I See Is You - Dusty Springfield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgRp0wiUI3M Another stunning, emotional vocal from Dusty, backed by dramatic orchestration. It will be her eighth top 10 hit. 33. Another Tear Falls - The Walker Brothers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LuCIUzAP3g Listening to this straight after Dusty makes me think of Scott Walker as being her male singer equivalent. He has the same mixture of power and emotion. The usual epic soundscape is here but the song is under two and a half minutes long and could have been extended a bit. 38. Sunny - Georgie Fame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbKzah2ndPI Just a week later, we have a cover of Bobby Hebb's song. It's decent enough but doesn't really do anything new with it. 39. In The Arms Of Love - Andy Williams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUAx8hJUg2c A plodding middle of the road song but it's from a film called What Did You Do In The War, Daddy? so might have more meaning to those who went to watch it. 40. Born A Woman - Sandy Posey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO7oq_0qosU A country style ballad in which she says that all women are treated badly by men except for her as she has a good one. Her next hit is called 'Single Girl' so I look forward to hearing what that one's going to say. Record of the week : 31. Guantanamera - The Sandpipers Dusty Springfield and The Walker Brothers were contenders to add to their previous ROTW awards but I've gone for this debut hit by the American vocal group. The song originated in Cuba in the 1920s. I like this arrangement with the Spanish guitar and the female backing vocalists singing the chorus. Since the 70s, I've known the tune as a football chant and it's still being used today, "you only sing when you're winning", "you're getting sacked in the morning" or "there's only one........(any player whose name has four syllables)" etc. I have heard this version before but never knew what it's called. The single will peak at number 7 and be the first of four hits for the group, spread across the next ten years.
  16. Excellent! I'll make sure I take part in this.

I'm thrilled to see Middlesex win their first 50 Over One Day Cup Final since 1990. They were in real trouble at 71-5 but Ryan Higgins and Harry Duke batted really well to give them a chance although the score of 231 was still below par. Leicestershire got into a good position to win but Tom Helm turned it around with the wicket of Nick Kelly towards the end. Superb bowling by Toby Roland-Jones and Naavya Sharma as well.
  20. I do like These Are The Days Of Our Lives but there are better songs on the Innuendo album, whether they are singles or tracks that were not put out as singles. Sadeness Part 1 would certainly be in my top 5 from the year.
  21. I had Summer Nights correctly in 4th place but thought that Mull Of Kintyre would be top of the list. The latter would be my favourite out of those two.
  22. I'm quite surprised that Wuthering Heights is not in the top 30.
  23. Round 1: 30 Kaiser Chiefs, the year Round 2: 33 You, the year (one year out on both of mine as well) 3 in 10: 2 Men In Black, Summertime
  24. Sexy Boy is a great song to start with. Whenever the subject of Air comes up on here, I have been the only one who says they prefer their second album, 10,000 Hz Legend, so I'm pleased to see that Jaz agrees with me.. I would certainly put it in my top 10 albums from the 21st Century. Born Slippy is another great choice, a song to play really loud, and Viva Forever is my favourite single by the Spice Girls.
  25. I can host a synctube listenthrough for this on Wednesday 23rd September
