Top 100 Best Selling Singles Of The 1970s
I did think Sailing would do quite well as it hit the top 3 in two separate chart runs. Bright Eyes is a wonderful song which I like more now than I did at the time. The top 4 is the one I expected and I have an order in which I think they will be so I'll find out soon whether or not I've got it right.

Top 100 Best Selling Singles Of The 1970s
I wasn't expecting Bohemian Rhapsody to be in the top 2 but thought maybe somewhere from 3rd to 5th. My Sweet Lord is very good and Tie A Yellow Ribbon is enjoyable. I've never really liked I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Room Auditions in Rotterdam (Groups)
This was the strongest category, there was nothing I really disliked. 1. Ultravox - Sleepwalk A good idea to start with their first top 40 hit 2. Depeche Mode - See You The same here with one of their early singles 3. New Order - Ruined In A Day A later era for this group but Bernard's vocal ability improved over time and sounds good here. I think these three bands will be my top 3 in most rounds but the order will change according to which songs get sent 4. M83 featuring Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion Susanne, one of my favourite female singers 5. Iamamiwhoami - Play An interesting discovery, looking forward to hearing more from them 6. Bananarama - Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) A good cover version 7. Dead or Alive - Misty Circles Not the best vocal from Pete but plenty to like musically 8. Sade - The Sweetest Taboo Their big hit singles were all classy but 80s wine bar music isn't really my thing 9. Fontaines D.C. - A Lucid Dream I quite enjoyed this but difficult to know where to rank it in a pop genre contest 10. Vengaboys - We Like to Party! (The Vengabus) A toe tapper certainly but very cheesy 11. Texas - When We Are Together They have a few good songs but most of them, like this one, are bland, radio friendly ones 12. Years & Years - Take Shelter Nice enough to listen to but I've already forgotten it

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
I never got round to doing a 70s top 10 so I'll do them both together, looking at my top 1000 chart: 1970s 1. Supper's Ready - Genesis 2. Feel The Benefit - 10cc 3. Eldorado - ELO 4. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen 5. Music - John Miles 6. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd 7. Here Comes The Flood - Peter Gabriel 8. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel 9. 2112 - Rush 10. Blinded By The Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band I'm Not In Love and Mr Blue Sky both miss out as they are my second favourites by 10cc and ELO and I'm leaving Yes for another decade. 1980s 1. Dr Mabuse (12 inch version) - Propaganda 2. Welcome To The Pleasuredome (album version) - Frankie Goes To Hollywood 3. Vienna - Ultravox 4. Budapest By Blimp - Thomas Dolby 5. Blue Monday - New Order 6. Tell Me There's A Heaven - Chris Rea 7. Never Let Me Down Again (the extended version known as the Split Mix) - Depeche Mode 8. Woman In Chains - Tears For Fears 9. Cry - Godley & Creme 10. In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins The Chris Rea song was a single in 1990 but already on a 1989 album so I'm putting it in the 80s.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Room Auditions in Rotterdam (Solo Male)
Interesting, if it's not breaking any of Calum's rules, I suppose it will be OK then.

Julian rates every pre 1980 Top 40 hit
I'm glad you liked 10538 Overture. It shows how creative Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne were to do something that was so different to The Move. 10538 was the number of the escaped prisoner the song was about, inspired by the number of the mixing desk in the studio which was 1053. The 8 was added as the melody needed an extra syllable. Popcorn by Hot Butter is certainly ahead of its time so I would also put it in second place out of that batch.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Room Auditions in Rotterdam (Solo Male)
1st - Gary Numan - We Are Glass A song I know well and one of his best singles 2nd - Damien Rice - 9 Crimes Agree with what others have said about this song and I'll overlook it having a female vocalist, hopefully his remaining songs for each round will be solo efforts 3rd - Calvin Harris - Feel So Close I like that recurring two note groove 4th - Sam Fender - Chin Up The best of the rest, there isn't anything else now that I liked 5th - Roosevelt - Luna 6th - Lewis Capaldi - Hold Me While You Wait 7th - Sam Smith - Diamonds 8th - Harvey & Malú Trevejo - Hasta Luego 9th - Darin - Lovekiller A shame this isn't Bobby Darin 10th - Tom Grennan - Found What I've Been Looking For 11th - Mackenzy Mackay - Want You For Life 12th - Bladee - Cartier’god Icedancer (Intermission)

My record of the week 60 years ago
15th - 21st September 1966 26. Winchester Cathedral - The New Vaudeville Band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67RRnBlqX9w A song inspired by the music hall era with a very British sound to it so it's a surprise that it went all the way to number 1 in the US. The instrumental at the start sounds like a 70s TV sitcom theme tune while the vocal effect is quite similar to the one in Your Woman by White Town. 32. Sunny - Bobby Hebb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CogTxGCNCSk A very good soul song with chord progressions and an androgynous vocal style. A cover by Boney M will be a top 3 hit in 1977. 33. Run - Sandie Shaw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOU8ze5WucM The dramatic production suits the lyrics which are about being terrified by an ex-partner. I particularly liked the electric organ sound. 39. Summertime - Billy Stewart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAfUgI08KZ8 The third version of the song to chart will be the only hit for the American singer. He does his own thing with it, including some scatting, backed by a lively backing band. 40. I Don't Care - Los Bravos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7-DJMB1S8g A decent enough pop song but the worst of this week's six new entries. It will be their second and final top 40 hit. Record of the week : 37. Bend It! - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich There were a few candidates this week but I've chosen this one for its tempo changes, Greek influence and the use of an electric mandolin. It even came with its own dance, the instructions for which were published in music magazines. It will be the biggest hit for the group so far, reaching number 2.

Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, Karma Chameleon, Victims Yesterday's was Maxi Priest, by the way, not Cat Stevens, in case you are wondering which one my one answer of Wild World referred to.

Top 100 Best Selling Singles Of The 1970s
I did like Eye Level at the time as a seven year old and retain a fondness for it. I wasn't so keen on the bagpipes of Amazing Grace. Mouldy Old Dough is lovingly eccentric and YMCA still sounds good.

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
Fade To Grey is a wonderful song to pick as your favourite. I'd forgotten about it so I thought your top 2 might be Don't You Want Me and something by The Cure, maybe A Forest. I see you mentioned both in your honourable mentions. Love Will Tear Us Apart is also an enduring classic from the same year.

Congratulations Jim, it's always good to see a long song win a contest and it was 2nd in my vote, you join me on two contest wins in 2026. 9th place was higher than I expected for my own song, thanks to all who gave it points, especially WhoOdyssey for the 12. Lonely Robot is the solo project of John Mitchell who was the lead singer of It Bites who I sent to Bop Idol. I started listening to some Lonely Robot after liking the two It Bites albums from the 2000s. Thanks to uhsting for doing a great job with the hosting.

The Pop Factor: Season 3 • The Room Auditions in Rotterdam (Solo Female)
1st Kate Bush - Hounds of Love She's in a different league to everyone else in this category so I think she'll always be likely to top my vote 2nd Dido - White Flag I've always liked her vocals on Faithless albums, a lovely tone to her voice, and this song is co-written and produced with the other Rollo 3rd Agnes - Selfmade Never heard of her but I enjoyed the vocal effects and outro 4th Milica Pavlović - Ona nosi Pradu A good rhythm to this 5th Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Music Gets the Best of Me 6th Tove Lo featuring Wiz Khalifa - Influence 7th Leona Lewis - Better in Time (Single Mix) 8th Adele - Hello 9th Marina - Bubblegum Bitch 10th Jessie Ware - Sauna 11th Robyn - Talk To Me 12th Zara Larsson - Love Me Land

Jade's top 10 songs of each decade: 1960s - 2020s (so far!)
Vienna and Blue Monday are certainly two of my favourite songs from the 80s and both groups are in the Pop Factor now. I'm much less certain of what your top 2 are compared to the 70s but I do have two songs in mind so I'll see if I'm right tomorrow.
