  1. I don't think anyone got 12 pointless answers, then.
  2. Mack, for question 9, you've put two answers for LiamSime and none for Steve.
  3. I'd forgotten there were 22 teams at the start. Unlucky that Steve and me both picked Swindon Town.
  4. I'm glad to get through question 5 as there were only 20 possible answers.
  5. I think one shared answer will be enough to put you out of the running here.
  6. Well done John on the double 39. Round 1: 36 The Lightning Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 Perfect 10, A Little Time, Old Red Eyes Is Back
  7. 5th - 11th August 1965 39. See My Friends - The Kinks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg_EQeAtMOM Inspired by a stopover in Bombay, there's an Indian sound to the Kinks' next single even though no Indian instruments are being used. They are using a droning effect on the guitars and a there's a chant style vocal. It all provides for an intriguing listen. 40. Don't Make My Baby Blue - The Shadows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWJAQFleUcs A cover of a Frankie Laine song from 1963 but it's the 1970 version by The Move that I'm most familiar with. The Shadows do a good job with it on a rare, for them, single with vocals. It will be their last top 10 hit of the 1960s (without Cliff Richard). Record of the week : 33. I Want Candy - Brian Poole and The Tremeloes Another song which I know best from another version, this time it's the one from 1982 by Bow Wow Wow. I enjoyed this one as well which is at the same tempo and uses the drums, guitars and keyboards effectively. The original version by the New York group The Strangeloves was released just a few months earlier. This one will peak at number 25 and be the last top 40 hit for the group before Brian Poole leaves.

It's back, 16 years after the last series finished! It's on Disney+ now. I've just watched the first episode of the new series. Bobby is now an adult and everyone else has aged a little bit. Hank and Peggy have been living and working in Saudi Arabia but have returned to Arlen. Great to see this returning.
  9. Round 1: 21 The Band, Shania Twain, Take Me I'm Yours, Peacock Suit Round 2: 33 Cry For Help 3 in 10: 3 Addicted To Love, She Makes My Day, Mercy Mercy Me
  10. Yes, that was a tense finish. England messed things up yesterday after being in a good position to win the match.
  11. It will be a tie if England add 34, then lose their last wicket. It's been an outstanding series, the early finish to today's play probably favours England as India had the upper hand when the rain came. It will be interesting to see if they try to hit a few fours to get the job done quickly or be more cautious and look for singles here and there.
  12. Round 1: 33 That's Not My Name Round 2: 27 The year, Mica Paris/Will Downing, Cher 3 in 10: 3 My Friend Stan, Merry Xmas Everybody, Mama Weer All Crazee Now

Oasis for the second one and the Rolling Stones for everything else.
  14. Round 1: 36 Our Version Of Events Round 2: 30 Crush, Third World 3 in 10: 3 Xanadu, Magic, Long Live Love
  15. I'm just putting some answers together now. Mack, for question 10, is this a current Premier League team or can it be a team that has been in the Premier League in the past?
  16. Round 1: 21 John Miles, the year, Stuck On You, Life Round 2: 30 The year, I Can't Make You Love Me 3 in 10: 3 Leave Right Now, Light My Fire, The Long And Winding Road
  17. Yes, both of those songs had live versions that were top 40 hits.
  18. Here's a few I would consider to be well known: Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Queen - Love Of My Life The Art Of Noise - Moments In Love Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight OMD - Electricity Pink Floyd - Money The Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line After The Fire - Der Kommissar Propaganda - P Machinery Squeeze - Tempted Don Henley - New York Minute The Proclaimers - Sunshine On Leith
  19. Round 1: 36 On Their Own Round 2: 30 Earth Wind And Fire, the year, Killer On The Loose 3 in 10: 3 How Will I Know, The Greatest Love Of All, I Will Always Love You
  20. 29th July - 4th August 1965 5. Help! - The Beatles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q_ZzBGPdqE The Beatles don't get the award this time, I preferred the last one, 'Ticket To Ride'. While Help! keeps up the quality, it's not amongst their best singles for me. It will spend three weeks at number 1. 24. Summer Nights - Marianne Faithfull https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swh0owa07Jo Another good one from Marianne, her fourth top 10 hit. It's coming out at the right time of the year and has some effective use of the harpsichord, strings and drums. 28. A Walk In The Black Forest - Horst Jankowski, His Orchestra And Chorus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQqHCb16MNg This easy listening instrumental is just a joy to listen to, with the piano and string plucking and then the main tune being played on guitar in the middle before switching back to piano. It will go as high as number 3. 30. (Say) You're My Girl - Roy Orbison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t3TSHQVLE8 There's a good pace to this one and as usual, vocally strong but not one I'd need to come back to. 32. Zorba's Dance - Marcello Minerbi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V69kK9eOvc A well known Greek piece of music from the film 'Zorba The Greek' is covered here by the Italian and his orchestra. Not as good as today's other instrumental but still enjoyable with its gradually increasing tempo. 36. Too Many Rivers - Brenda Lee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjwQnOeCf-s This will be the last of Brenda's nineteen top 40 hits even though she is still only 20 years old. There's a country twang to her vocal with the backing singers playing their part. Record of the week : 40. Everyone's Gone To The Moon - Jonathan King Quite a simple ballad takes the honours this week but it's the wonderful orchestral arrangement that pushes it ahead of the other six songs. He wrote and produced the song while still at Cambridge University and it will peak at number 4 so this could possibly be the first self written and produced single by someone as young as 20 years old to reach the top 5. In making this record of the week, I'm ignoring what happens later on with Jonathan King.
  21. Well done both of you on the 39s. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 King Of Pain, So Lonely, Roxanne
  22. I found the 2000s much more difficult to narrow down to four, the 2010s doesn't have as many great albums from my point of view. 2000s: Air - 10000 Hz Legend Arcade Fire - Funeral Peter Gabriel - Up Guillemots - Through The Windowpane 2010s: Anathema - Weather Systems Marillion - F E A R Karnataka - Secrets Of Angels Nero - Welcome Reality
  23. That's a great top 4 there. Beyond that, I would pick out Tom Hark and All Over The World. The latter has Shard End as one of the places mentioned in the lyrics which is the part of Birmingham that Jeff Lynne was born and raised in.
