I think JLS are suffering with the arrival of One Direction and The Wanted. Especially One Direction who I can imagine have nicked alot of their fans. The fact that there is continued buzz surrounding these two bands at the moment with their successes in America has made JLS look dull in comparison. They've also relied upon cd singles to boost them, and as a charity single - the physical cd used to be a must have for any charity event. So this also plays a part in their sales as cd sales take less of a percentage these days. For me, Beat Again is their best single and they haven't bettered it in terms of being a good song and having commercial appeal.
  2. I'm actually going to call the whole article BS - unless sales threads are BS - either way If you look at many of the sales threads, this year, I think nearly everyone of them has since a massive sales increase to the week-year before. There is absolutely no way that sales would only be 3 million ahead of last year!
  3. That huge mistake about We Found Love makes me wonder if the whole article itself is correct
  4. ooooh looks like Michael Buble could cause an upset in the end of year chart next weekend!!
  5. Do you still listen to everything you bought last year? Or the year before that? I do really like it, it's not something I'll listen to all the time, but maybe on a quiet sunday night by the fire it might get a spin, but then I listen to jazz and celtic stuff - not just whats naturally in the charts
  6. I didn't even know it was being released until I saw this and checked Itunes and it's #38!! I didn't think it would be top 200! Might get this :D

I agree that if Leona can release a song that captures the public's imagination the way Bleeding Love did then she'll be onto a winner. (I'm not saying she needs a new Bleeding Love though - we have that song - a carbon copy of it isn't going to work. The thing that separates Adele (and Amy Whinehouse) from Leona is that the songs they release, they themselves have put their heart and soul into it. Alot of people can relate to songs like Rehab, Back To Black, Someone Like You, Set Fire To the Rain (the bit "there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew, all the things you say, they were never true, never true and the games you play, you would always win, always win I can relate to) because the lyrics are so powerful and you know they come from the heart of the singer singing them. Leona singing Hurt on X Factor - a song about drug addiction, is hard to wash because you don't really believe Leona, whether she interprets the song in another way or not. If she can release a song, that she's written, where you can tell it's from the heart, then I think she'll have the public onboard again. (and that the song is a good song of course)

I was going to write in my post before that Leona's career was built upon "her Voice", but then stopped writing it. But actually seeing this, makes me think this is part of the problem for both Leona and Susan Boyle. Both their carreers have been built upon their voices, and both had compelling sales for their debut albums. But after that, well, where exactly do you go from there? Everyone has the album which focuses on their voices. So their follow-ups were both built on the "biggest selling albums" route. But both their 2nd albums, while doing well, didn't light up the charts as much as their debuts because everyone had already bought into the debuts. With the 3rd album, all they can offer is their voices as thats what their carreers have been built upon, but we've heard it before, so why invest in yet another album? There needs to be a new angle. There hasn't been a new angle with Susan, which could be a reason why her album has failed to sell. Leona tried to find a new one by going into a more dance genre but it's failed to capture the public's imagination, so could a dance Leona album really work?

I think the point with the Lady Gaga album is that it everyone thought at the beginning of the year that it would be the biggest album of 2011 - coming off the back of The Fame (Monster). To be fair to the album though, it's still a high selling album in the climate we're now in. For me, the biggest surprise is probably Beyonce, again it was the follow-up to a very successful 3rd album campaign, released at a time of year where the focus was on her. As it stands, it doesn't look good for Leona. Collide made a whimper rather than a bang in the singles chart, and I'm finding it hard to judge whether Hurt has been a success or not. There seems to be a bit of a backlash about the choice of song, considering its lyrical content and that again she's gone for a cover to save her career. Part of why Run was such a success was because it was an accident - covered for Live Lounge and people loving it so much that a release was in-demand. Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Hurt feel like deliberate attempts to re-create Run but the magic just isn't there. As it stands, I'm not sure Leona could reach platinum, let alone double - especially as 2012 could see a complete collapse in general sales anyway. I guess it's just wait and see what single will lead the album. If it can capture the public's imagination, then she'll be onto a winner, if not....

From the top 20 album and singles thread: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=136916 17 - 364200 - Rihanna - Talk That Talk So it's sold platinum (300K). It's probably been shipped to 2XPlatinum though - and it looks on course to sell it by christmas day

I don't see that as a solid argument to be honest. Surely, if anything Matt and Cher's albums should be selling by the truck-load if people were vying for them no matter when they are released.

I think if Matt can clamber up to 300K then he should be safe for another album. But another 100K after christmas is going to be alot to ask
  13. YAH!! I wonder if this will outpeak it's 2007 peak? It looks set to - it's much higher then the 2 weeks before christmas in 2007 - and at it's highest since 2008
  14. Wow this is the highest Band Aid have been since 2007!!
  15. I'm probably late on this but I've just realised that What Makes You Beautiful really sounds like Summer Nights from Grease at the beginning. (This is the first time I've properly listened to the song)
  16. I don't suppose Leona's EP will be made a physical cd release will it?

hmm, I'm surprised Jesse J isn't on there - what with The Voice about to come and all. And hopefully they'll show the Jools Holland showing of Someone Like You. It would sort of seem wrong not to have the biggest selling single/album/artist on TOTP - unless there's a new years one too Case in point - there's not many women performing this year is there?

Michel Buble now over 600K then - would love this to reach a million before the end of the year
  19. But they didn't get to #1 with the singles that they were promoting on the programme - that is my point
  20. I mean an X Factor related act (and I also mean throughout the promotion of the programme - i really wasn't clear with that) - JLS, Olly Murs, Cher Lloyd, One Direction, Matt Cardle and Rebecca Fergueson have all performed on the show but have failed to get to #1 - it's a massive change to when we had instant #1s from Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke, JLS and Leona Lewis.
  21. X Factor get their first #1 of the year :o
  22. I would love it if next week this is #2 again, then goes back to #1 for another 3 weeks :D
  23. But even then, if you pay for an album at £9 in 2010 - you then pay 99p per new track in 2011 - you've spent what could range from £10 - £18. Or you wait and get the deluxe album and get all the 2010 and 2011 tracks for £9 - or you wait longer after the deluxe album has been released and been out for a while and pay £5. The other problem with this is the anticipation has then gone, you wonder if you really want the album at all, and then you lose a sale
  24. I know for me, I have really slowed down on the albums I buy this year. Infact I've only bought Steps Ultimate Collection, Same Difference - The Rest Is History and I have Darren Hayes - Secret Codes and Battleships on it's way. There are a ton of albums I want though - I still haven't bought Adele, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Scherzinger, Take That, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Nicola Roberts and there's a whole host of new albums coming up that I want. There's two main reasons why I haven't been buying albums - firstly the cost - I am refusing to buy albums for £8 or £9 and then in a few months time they get knocked down to half the price. I would rather wait till that happens, then buy an album full price and then think to myself, damn i could have saved myself a fiver. The other reason is I get sick of buying albums and then a year later they are re-released, sometimes with 8 new songs it - think Take That, Lady Gaga etc. I've got to a point now, that I'll probably buy an artists album once they've moved onto their next knowing full well it's not going to have a re-release.
  25. I actually would  more for the sheer hilarity
