iTunes Chart: August 2010 (III)
Happy that Same Difference are picking up speed now - I do hope Shine On Forever does well for them! Good on Olly as well. It's not my favourite song in the world, but it's not terrible in my opinion. Well done to him. I hope Katy can pick up. I would have thought her and Olly would be josling for the #1 by now

iTunes Chart: August 2010 (III)
Most cherrypickings off albums don't usually add up to much unless they become singles. Some artists have had various album tracks make it into the singles chart, but it doesn't happen all that often. I do think it has signalled a nail into the coffin of albums being bought though. If you can cherry pick off an album, why would you buy a full album if you only like half the songs? You'll download the ones you like, and that could potentially also save money for the customer. Though damaging sales for the artist/record company

Will classic singles still be as big today
Sorry but that is like saying someone is only allowed to like one style of music. Who knows who has bought Don't Stop Believing in this last year but collectively with the original and Glee version it has been bought in its hundreds of thousands. It's one of the biggest hits of this year regardless of who's bought it and I can see its longvity lasting longer then most of the new hits this year

Will classic singles still be as big today
And yet Don't Stop Believing is one of the biggest hits to establish itself to a new generation. I was watching a TV documentry last night about music and guitars and one of the Bon Jovi group said that there has been new interest in their music from a younger generation because of things like Guitar Hero, so I wouldn't mind betting that the big old guitar ballads will start making a comeback in the next 10 years when the youngsters of today start making their own music

Same Difference - Shine On Forever (Photo Frame)
I'm praying top 40 - but i haven't got a clue. I know non-fans have heard it though. One of my friends saw it on a music channel - though it's not really his type of music.

Will classic singles still be as big today
I'm a firm believer that if the music is good enough, if will last the test of time no matter the genre of music. There are so many 70's and 80's hits that I still heavilly played on radio and TV channels. (I think Magic TV are doing a Back to the 80's type thing this weekend). It will be interesting as to what songs from last decade will still be around in the next. But music genres always have a peak and a drop, so I wouldn't worry

The X Factor 2010 // Series 7
I can't wait to see Katy and Cheryl together. I think Katy's gonna bring some mischief tonight Like how she's gonna be shown just in time for the release of Teenage Dream!

The **Irish** iTunes Chart [NOV-OCT 2010]
Wasn't Alexandra Burke supposed to be released Irish Itunes on Friday? Or has that moved to be with the UK release time?

The X Factor 2010 // Series 7
Anyone seen this: Y_kGv7v5u60 I have to say it does bring a few shivers seeing all those that have done well (and not so well) during the last few years of X Factor - and the song strangely works very well with the subject matter

BBC planning new Music show for 2011
Sounds like it would be in a SMTV/CD:UK type mould but made more adult I guess (as BBC3 doesn't actually start transmitting shows until 7pm) I'm up for any new music show though, but I'd still prefer Top of the Pops to comeback instead of a new show trying to be TOTP. The thing is, I really can't think of any BBC presenters that can transend different generations of families (like Ant and Dec - kids them them, students love them, mums and dads love them and Grannies love them) though Cat Deely is on BBC now isn't she? Love her to do it and she has the experience from CD:UK

X-Factor Chart Thread (I)
I would say its a disadvantage to Joe but not unfair if they are on the same night as him. For a start, all eyes will be on 2/5s of Take That instead of him, and both acts would get promo for the singles so it would be a harder ride to get to #1 for Joe - but thats it. It's not "unfair" because it's not like Joe should just automatically get to #1, it's just a disadvantage because he won't be able to sail away above the competition

Will iTunes pour cold water on pre-releases?
Thats what I mean. Maybe I hold onto that notion cos thats what it was like when i was a kid - groups like Steps, Spice Girls, B*Witched etc i would first know about their new tracks when they debuted the video on The Box and I used to love watching their numbers coming up on the screen where people had voted for it. Then I would find out the release dates from magazines such as Smash Hits and Top of the Pops Magazine, and then watch them perform on Live and Kicking, CD:UK, SM:TV etc - there would be a few weeks wait. Then Monday morning, they would be on GM:TV, I'd watch that go to school and as soon as school was finished I would rush to ASDA to by the single on the way home. Maybe it's because I'm reminising, but it felt more like an event, something to get excited over - and as the promo uped a level each week it would get more exciting. There's something about being able to just download a track without a build-up that seems so deflating. The excitement can't build up the way that having to wait a few weeks for the cd to be in stores, so you can rush down on release, buy it, rush home and put the cd in the stereo. Adding to this why the hell isn't Top of the Pops back on TV? In a world now where people download tracks as soon as they've heard them on a TV programme, you would have thought record companies themselves would fund TOTP to be back on

X-Factor Chart Thread (I)
Interestingly Robbie and Gary are released on the 4th - Joe is released on the 11th October. If Robbie and Gary don't perform then Joe should be clear for the #1 (depending on how good the two records are) Robbie and Gary will probably perform the duet the same night as when they are on with Take That. Like they may open or close the first show and the Take That be on on the Results show. (Are X Factor still going to be doing the main show on a Saturday, results on the Sunday - I think that was a detriment to Joe last christmas and could have cost him the #1 - one day less of sales, so maybe they'll put it back to what it was before?)

Will iTunes pour cold water on pre-releases?
I know the majority of people on here illegally download - but that doesn't make it right - and it's at your own detriment. If you want to risk having a law suit against you thats your call

X-Factor Chart Thread (I)
Surely Robbie and Gary have the #1 wrapped up before we've even heard it! It's certainly gonna be an interesting ride when October starts into christmas

Will iTunes pour cold water on pre-releases?
The alternative is to wait. But you only have to wait for lead tracks on an album - any songs released after the album is out - you can get straight away anyway. In my opinion there is no excuse to illegally download - if you have to wait a few weeks, then you should wait. What the article has done is say that it's ok to illegally download - the point of illegal means it's against the law. I am in favour of this though because it would give a truer reading on what is popular at that current time - however I do agree that it could make the charts stagnatic

Will iTunes pour cold water on pre-releases?
Sometimes I think it would be a smart move to do this - and it would probably make it more true to what is the current popular track. But I don't like how they've worded the article. Like No alternative? You can wait for the actual release you know - you're not obliged to illegally download it - it's like they're saying it's ok to illegally download
