I need to take the irony of this post in with your username. It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

Friday Chart Predictions
I’d say Hallelujah though not intended as, is a Christmas song. Especially Alexandra Burke’s version. From the choir feel to the candles in the music video, it just gives that feeling

This isn’t the chart week they’re aiming for though?

Friday Chart Predictions
I don’t see that as necessary a problem. That’s been going on forever. Remembering the days of Spice Girls being on practically everything. You couldn’t move in any type of shop without seeing some kind of spice girls branded item. At least with promotion, it means that you are more likely to seek it out for yourself rather than it being on the background. But we’ve always been steered by playlists. From radio to tv channels. Remembering how the number of a music video would come up at the side of the screen and looking to see if that was for the artist you want.

I guess a way to get around it in terms of playlists is to make it mandatory that curated 3rd party playlists are played on shuffle. And obviously if you are a paid subscriber you can actively change the song to one you want. If it’s your own playlist then you have chosen those songs so you should be allowed to play it in your order if you wish. This would eliminate the favouritism that passive plays gives to a certain order of songs. But I can see it undermining the record labels who pay promote their artists to the top.

All I Want for Christmas Is You & Last Christmas chart runs
Band Aid may block that number #1 but then Ed has created some negative headlines around it so who knows? I do think this year everyone has been a bit more coy when it comes to Christmas songs. Maybe cos last year felt a bit overdosed by them by the time Christmas was over. Like so far only Wham and Mariah in the top 40 when the equivalent of last years chart there was 5 in the top 40. Now there’s Christmas tree switch ons happening I’m sure it’ll start to ramp up though.

Christmas #01 betting odds
I’ve just seen an article where Ed Sheeran said he was not asked permission for the use of his voice on the new Band Aid 40 and had he been asked he would have “respectfully” declined because his understanding of the narrative associated has changed. Explained to him by Fuse ODG as he says it perpetuates damaging stereotypes stifling Africa’s economy tourism and investment. I’m in two minds on this. I completely understand that opinion and also how especially now the look of rich singers boosting their own profiles at the expense of lives is not a good look. But then isn’t it a bit refusing help when it’s most needed? It just feels wrong to turn our backs on a developing part of the world while we live in luxury just incase we offend them? Or in the hope we might fancy a holiday there?

Friday Chart Predictions
If Girls Aloud managed to stay top 10 they would be the first girl band to chart in the top 10 in 3 consecutive decades. If they stay in the top 40 they would join Bananarma as the only girl groups to chart in the top 40 in 3 consecutive decades.

The BuzzJack Friday Chart Show Thread: 8th November 2024
Have to admit, it is nice to not have the Christmas songs enter the top 40 this week. It’s inevitable it will start but it’s nice to hold back on them. I need a couple of weeks before the Christmas madness starts.

PREDICT: Kylie Minogue - Tension (the album)
I got the limited edition vinyl (only one - not like some who were trying to buy loads just to put it on eBay). Also the wine, in a lovely box that I don’t want to open lol. The Padam mug, the BL20 t-shirt and as I spent over £100 a free signed card all held in a lovely Tension bag

PREDICT: Kylie Minogue - Tension (the album)
Ed Sheeran’s total is on the Tuesday too. I think there’s every chance she could be 1st or 2nd on that list I went to the pop up yesterday after work. Got there at 5pm and was in by 6pm. And then the most amazing thing happened and just I was leaving and was outside, Kylie started walking past me and I managed to get a selfie with her. I literally was shaking!!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CxgPm8koZ8l/?ig...zRlODBiNWFlZA== I look a state but whatever

Friday Chart Predictions
Because Taylor is about to equal Madonna’s #1 album record and one of those #1s (Red TV) was a re-record of a #1 (Red) But like I said before. If Abba re-record ABBA GOLD with new vocals and the total was added to the original ABBA GOLD album. They would probably overtake Queen’s Greatest Hits as the biggest selling album of all time. Would that be deemed fair?

Friday Chart Predictions
Sorry to butt in but I’d say they do class is different albums as they’ve been re-recorded, so the songs are different to the original album. I might be the same singer singing the songs, but it’s different people working on the albums, so different album credits. Otherwise the people working on this wouldn’t be credited if sales were lumped together. Interestingly, if we take this argument and apply it to Greatest Hits albums. Abba Gold has obviously been re-released many times and multiple times at #1 with each time it goes back to #1 added to the original tally. If Abba were to re-record Abba Gold, and the tracklisting stayed the same and still called Abba Gold (Re-records) would the sales go towards the original album - thus probably way overtaking and being the biggest selling album of all time by a collassal distance - somethings which Queen couldn’t catch up with. Or treated as a new album with its own individual sales? And would either of these instances be thought of as chart manipulation? Either become the biggest album ever, or have an extra #1 album to the list?

Steps - Chart Runs & Sales Thread: UK
It just seems a bit low considering it's had nearly 20 million streams on spotify plus whatever else it's done. When you have Deeper Shade of Blue, Stomp and It's the Way crossing over silver certifications when their original sales were very low and their streams being a lot lower then Tragedy. I find strange considering I remember 20 years ago Heartbeat/Tragedy being on about 1.1million. I would have put it on 1.4million by now.

The Tragedy one seems off to me, I thought it was on that amount for the last 5 years?

Although its Worldwide when you hover over each track on Spotify, the new songs on Steps album are averaging 15,000 after day 1 while Gary's is averaging under 5K. So although not confirmed, they are doing better overall in streaming.

On a separate note, if there's no big contender releasing this year (like Adele) I can see Michael Bublé snatching the Christmas #1 album. This year people are celebrating Christmas early (pretending this year isn't happening) and he is the King of the Christmas album.

They would have been the first British girl band to have #1 albums in 2 consecutive decades though which I'm sure they would want.
