  1. more people care about Footie than rugby in England though (easily).
  2. haha - i was thinking of relating it to henman too but decided against it. That (more than any other English belief in superiority) cracks me up so much every summer. Henmen hill and all the stupid tabloids... I'll give you this... England have a better chance of winning the cup than henman does of winnning wimbledon! side note - is all this hype (for all the sports) mainly due to the tyipcal type of press that english subscribe too? I mean - the biggest selling 'news'paper is The Sun after all... if your newspapers were really newspapers and your tabloids just tabloids (like in the US for instance) would that help? ...just a thought...
  3. Arcade Fire are the best band i've seen live in the last 5 years.. maybe my whole live. No really, if you get a chance to see them live do it! Other Canook, er Candian Bands worth checking out: Hot Hot Heat Tiga, DFA 1979 The Organ Chad VanGaalen - singer songwriter (check out his song called 'Clinically Dead') The New Pornographers - too pop for me, but still a good band The Most Serene Republic Islands The Unicorns Wolf Parade Another GREAT set of bands are in Broken Social Scene or offshoots of the band. BSS are nearly as good as Arcade Fire Live (much better live than recording even) Stars - super indie pop Feist - nice light indie Metric - straight indie The Dears - stright indie with a slight morrissey voice Post Rock - Godspeed You! Black Emperor (and offshoots Fly Pan Am, Set Fire to Flames, A Silver Mt. Zion and Sam Shalabi) - these are more post-rock GRIMLY FIENDISH already covered the industrial acts FULL List - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bands_from_Canada
  4. bland/boring. It's a bad remake of a couple of their good early songs without a decent hook...
  5. i have to admit I bought it as so many bands I'd not heard anything from. First NME in many, many months. Not had time to listen tho
  6. this band came to light a few months ago via stupidly high praise from pitchfork... The Funeral, Our Swords and Weed Party (my fav) are all you need to hear of theirs and doubt everyone will like much...
  7. mogwai ARE spot on... i'd just be curious if they are Scottish Football fans and how they defend that... There's nothing wrong with being a fan of your national team - there is something wrong if you think your average team is able to win it! While I'd like England to win it while I live here, they have maybe a 1/30 chance of doing so at best...
  8. it's metal.. I'll grant you pop-metal if you insist but to just say it's pop is false!
  9. not to slight a whole country... but i've been to czech a few times and their music tastes never struck me as very good. A friend of mine lives there and I send him mp3 cd's every few months to keep in the loop as there's nothing much there. Add to that 'beautiful people' rarely like anything decent I'd also go so far to say... Was there last year and the latest big thing was Ska. Nothing wrong per se, but the rest of world went through it over 15 years ago! The bands I saw were nothing special either...
  10. don't bother getting single for this... the b-side and remix are rubbish...
  11. haha! don't know if i'd go that far - but yes - the two genre's should have different boards...
  12. seeing them for the first time this summer! my last top 5 fav band that i've not seen
  13. i saw them twice... the first time was best... about 15 years ago at a small venue that let under 21's in (rare in seattle). Really small and intimate and was amazing. Saw them a couple years later and was horrible. Seen En Esch with Pigface as well - a decent concert but nothting great. The drummer was the best I've ever seen tho - a robot on steroids!
  14. super - i'm not the oldest bast*rd here - lol! i can't remember if ministry played JBMHR or not tbh... i *think* they did, but have killed a lot of brain cells since so can't be sure. Will have to get their recent albums if that good - tho i don't care much for industrial these days (my fav band in the genre was always kmfdm fyi - the money tour remains one of my top 5 gigs ever). Sonic Youth is a weird one as i've seen them 3 times and while good - they never really connect with me (or on albums - but goo was my first and like quite a few songs is why i chose it).... still a band I admire and am happy to see them again at ATP in Dec.
  15. track listing 1. Careful 4/10 2. And I Was A Boy From School 9/10 3. Colours 8/10 4. Over And Over 6/10 (good but boring) 5. (Just Like We) Breakdown 4/10 6. Tchaparian 3/10 7. Look After Me 4/10 8. The Warning 6/10 9. Arrest Yourself 3/10 10. So Glad To See You 7/10 11. No Fit State 7/10 12. Won't Wash [Hidden Track] 3/10
  16. seen all these bands except for Led Zep, and MBV.. your 'bands that exist now list' would be near my top 20 want to see albums as well... except maybe Goo for Sonic Youth and Slanted & Enchanted for Pavement (which would be in my top 10) I remember being surprised watching Pavement to see that they had someone different doing the screaming and yelling than Malkamus... The tours I saw of NIN, Ministry and Sonic Youth were the albums you picked as well... of these 3 Ministry was the best.
  17. yeah - can't beat 'London Calling'. I have a subway poster of that in storage somewhere... I've also always been quite enamored with Pixies - Surfa Rosa Cover too :)
  18. been listening to this album non-stop the last week! going to have to get that single if there's any remixes on it as well as the over & over remixes were quite good and 'boy from school' is my fav track off the album!
  19. love this song and group - saw them a couple months ago weren't bad at all! here's an interesting mash - up with Madonna (quite good actually!) http://www.partyben123.com/PartyBen-HungUpOnSoul.mp3
  20. they are doing great! A year a ago i saw them when they opened for the editors at Oxford Zodiac - not they have 2 nights headlining at Brixton Academy! While they do have a few good/catchy songs and are really fun/quirky live i'd be VERY surprised if it sells out tbh.
  21. i knew we'd agree on something :P
  22. BSS is another very good band live... the new albums makes so much more sense live (and others agree). Getting tix for their Aug gig in next coupld days too... Ok - here's a quick attempt at good european bands (just going throug a list of band I play on my radio satiion and my (admitadly bad!) memory on where they are from) and bolded ones that have a more than a couple songs: Air Amon Tobin B. Fleischmann Colder Daft Punk Division Kent Erlend Øye Grizzly Bear Kings of Convenience Lali Puna Le Tigre M83 Magnet Nouvelle Vague Sigur Ros Soulwax Stereolab Ulrich Schnauss Vate wow! I thought I had TONS more than that! May have missed a few but that's about it... All other bands are UK (inc Ireland fyi), Canada or US...
