  1. We have a pretty big percentage of British backpackers who do hospitality work while they are here in our restaurants and they are nothing but professional and friendly. We love them. I think this sounds like "put the locals down by saying they don't want to work" to justify paying less wages. It's worked in almost all other sectors, why not hospitality too. You'd think by now that they would know that we are up on that trick.
  2. Greenpeace have been on their tails during the whole fiasco. The Japanese say they want to kill the whales for scientific research when it's been proven that the whale ends up in restaurants where it's a delicacy and it fetches a lot of $$$$. They have been doing this for decades. The fact that they have murdered whales in waters where they shouldn't be just proves how arrogant the Japanese are on this issue.
  3. Didn't realise that EMI had 14,000 artists on it's books. I think that the recording industry should just drop the price of CDs. We all know that it costs next to nothing for them to make. I buy my CDs when they hit the bargain bins because that's the price they should be to begin with. That's all their worth. Music has to be the worst investment you can make. A friend of mine recently sold their whole collection and was pretty cranky to find that most of the albums he paid full price for , could hardly sell for a fiver.

  8. That 2nd one looks incredibly like an old player that my father had stored in the garage until a few years ago. lol Don't know if these count, but I've always been fascinated by old Wurlitzer Jukeboxes. I guess they could be called a record player? The 1939 model...lol http://www.jukebox45s.co.uk/1937-wurlitzer-616-parts.gif The 1941 model.... http://www.pinballrebel.com/archive/wurlitzer/w780/w780_a.jpg 1956...... http://www.jukeboxlondon.co.uk/images/W2000.jpg 1966.... http://www.boomersamusements.com/101-0143_IMG%20opt.jpg and last...1977 model.... http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/cf/a2/35c0_1.JPG Didn't really realise how unattractive those old ones were!
  9. Talking about Led Zep, Oz band Wolfmother is definately channelling them. ;)
  10. I should've added with a bread and water diet, hard manual labour and no entertainment like TVs. I'm sure that would bring the cost down.

thanks for the link Haze. I love some Dire Straits. :cheer: Mark Knoffler is an under-rated guitar player. His style is sublime.
  12. A lot of Aussie banks and credit companies are using Indian call centres too. It seems a global phenomenon. I don't know why, but when I'm transferred to the call centre, we always end up shouting at each other like we are calling overseas lol. Thats usually when the gig is up that they aren't local indians in Oz but in India!! I watched a documentary about indian call centres and they dont have very much training. Just a few weeks and that is it. Besides the language barrier, the locality and cultural barrier, there is also the barrier that they really aren't that trained in the product that they are servicing. Which results in usually a very unsatisfactory experience. Many people have boycotted banks that use them, but now all of them do and there is no more competitors to move to. The banks seem to think that if they are all using them, then we would get used to it. Needless to say we haven't.
  13. I find the concept of kids in pubs really weird. I was never taken to a pub as a kid. I didn't go to one until I was legally allowed to drink. Drinking isn't the only thing that goes on pubs, not here in Australia anyway. There are poker machines, and gambling (horse races to bet on etc). I think my local pub throws out the welcome mat to kids for lunch but even they are forced out into the beer garden. (outdoors). They aren't allowed in the pub area. No one under 18 is.
  14. It would be even better if they kept them in jail for life.
