Why are foreigners more employable than the British?
I'd like to add something that is happening here in Australia. The same excuse is used about "Australians" not wanting to do menial jobs. It's a lie. It was found in a lot of cases that these jobs weren't even advertised locally but placed in international employment rags and with overseas agencies. most foreign workers are brought here by organised employment teams, providing them cheap accomodation to use as a base. with this in mind, they can afford to earn lower wages as they dont need as much money as residence here do. they are often transported by the gang leaders to their places of employment too. Rob what you said is so true. I'm sure if local Brits like local Aussies were offered cheap accomodation and a lift to and from work everyday they would all be lining up for the work too. Unfortunately the locals have to make their own way at their own expense. Not fair if you ask me.

I think he's a bit over rated myself. But BITU is a good album. You've got me curious to hear some new stuff though. Will check it out. Thanks.

Great albums of the 80s
I bought both albums and found them tedious. Born in the U.S.A had a lot of hits and is an easier album to enjoy IMO.

Big Brother Britain: Government and councils to spy on ALL
Honestly. All this stuff about DNA databases, governments spying on peoples calls and emails. Next they'll be ripping your mail open and reading it before they send it on to you. Seems like you guys are already in a jail without bars. Who elected the Taliban in over there???

national dna database
AGAIN would you speed down a road where you knew there was an active speed camera? I'm sure that in the U.K just like here in Australia, your government makes MILLIONS of dollars from speeding fines by people who aren't concerned by the cameras or breaking the law. I can't see crims giving much of a fig either. They are after all SOCIOPATHS who have no regard for laws and rules to begin with. I doubt being on an DNA database will stop them but it will make them more manipulative and cunning. The government wants the database for other reasons that has nothing to do with fighting crime. Thats the line they use to sell it to you hoping you'll buy it. With the entire nations DNA on database they could run all sorts of tests on it without anyones knowledge. They could run tests on anyone applying for a government job for instance to predict life age expectancy to sicknesses/diseases that you may not want your employers to know. The room for abuse is phenomenal but first they have to get it past first base. And they always use the fear/crime card to manipulate us into agreement. The old chestnut of ....if you've got nothing to hide, then you won't mind.....is a violin that's been played wayyyy too many times. IMO

Great albums of the 80s
Well I came in on the end of it really so I was really gagging but I held my tongue until someone had a go at Bruce and Straits. I should also apologise to the posters who nominated Janet and Frida.

Muslim checkout staff get an alcohol opt-out clause
In the religion that I was born into, I'm not supposed to eat meat on Fridays. If I wanted to be really extremist about it, I could also refuse to handle meat on Fridays. I wonder if they would also make allowances for me if I worked there ?? I doubt it. It parts of the job. If they can't do the job they should find one that is more to their lifestyle (and religion is a lifestyle choice as far as I'm concerned)

The Food Standards Agency? Does this mean they can spy on how many pizzas a person orders over the phone? lol

Scotland is second fattest nation in the world!
I don't find it coincidence that since 9/11 there seems to have been a huge upsurge in obesity. I really think all this talk on terror, war and negative $h!t that the media keeps pumping out on a daily basis is really affecting people People no longer seem to want to get out and LIVE LIFE anymore. Could it be that the Western world is DEPRESSED with all the doom and gloom and finding solace in food or are spending more time at home and no longer getting the normal amount of activity that they should??? Not wanting to go to the park or walk the streets anymore because of muggings, crime etc?? Maybe being large makes people feel safer out on the street , especially women??? Maybe they feel less of a target to all the loonies?? There has to be a reason why. I'm not interested in the affect but I'm really interested in what is causing this and the reasons why people are giving up.

Edwyn Collins
Edwyn Collins has just released his first album since his massive stroke (cerebral haemmorage) back in 2005. A Girl Like You has always been one of my favourite party songs and I was really saddened to hear he had 2 strokes and also contracted golden staph during his recovery back in 2005. But he's back with a new single called You'll Never Know (My Love) from his new album HOME AGAIN. Both were released this month. The album was recorded before he got sick but was mixed afterwards. He has a myspace page to listen to some new songs. Maybe if you have a myspace account you can drop by and give him some kind words of support. http://www.myspace.com/wwwmyspacecomedwyncollins Here is a recent interview about how he's doing...he's planning on touring again soon. What a trouper!! http://music.guardian.co.uk/rock/story/0,,2150203,00.html

national dna database
I can see criminals just upping the ante on how they go about their criminal activity. I can also see a lot more innocent people being wrongly accused by planted DNA by clever crims who know how to avoid getting caught. Don't think it cant happen. It will.

Seized "art porn" owned by Elton John.
. The image, which featured two young girls one of whom was sitting down with her legs wide apart, was taken by the renowned photographer Nan Goldin. Nan Goldin's 'Mel in bed with Valerie and Bruno laughing' Goldin's art, such as this 2001 photo, often features young girls... The shot, from the artist's Thanksgiving series, was to be exhibited at the Baltic Modern Art gallery, Tyneside, this week along with some of her other work. But the day before it was due to be viewed by the public, police came and removed the image over fears that it might be breaking the law. It is thought that one of the assistant directors at the centre called in the authorities last Thursday after a private view as he was concerned that the picture could be offensive. The picture is now being examined by lawyers at the Crown Prosecution Service. Officials at the gallery confirmed that the police were involved but refused to say who had decided the picture should be removed. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../nbaltic125.xml I thought this was just another media hype up until I saw the photograph on another forum ( the girls private bits were blanked out. It was only meant to give an idea of what the photo and fuss is about. ) There is no way this is a photo of innocent girls at play. The fact that it was taken by a female doesn't mean she isn't a pedophile and this isn't kiddie porn. Nan Goldins background is mentioned on the link, and it seems she's a bit of sicko in my opinion who has a unnatural obsession with pre-pubescent girls. Up until now it's been classed as art (which it isn't in my view, it's porn) and I really feel it needs to be reclassified as it was taken over 20 years ago now. What do you think? BTW the pic in the story isn't the one that the fuss is about. If the Telegraph published it in the article they would have the police knocking at their door. The pic is one of the more tamer ones from her collection.

Favourite Film Soundtracks
Isn't that the one with Michael Hutchence in it? He wasn't too bad for his first acting gig. Too bad he didn't get the part of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stones Doors movie. He would've been awesome.

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country."
I had a very enlightening conversation with a really liberal sunni Muslim guy from Afghanistan that I worked with a few years ago. He said that there were a LOT of bisexual Muslims who would swear blind that they didn't have homosexual tendencies. He said it was a common belief especially in Shi'ite Iran, that you weren't homosexual as long as you were the one giving it and not taking it. He said it was common in towns and villages for there to be 1 or 2 "homosexuals" that a lot of the males would "visit" where a blind eye was usually turned to the practice as it was usually pretty secret and fairly underground. He said that it usually stopped once the man got married. If it continued after marriage this was a sign that a man was gay and it was then it became an "abomination" (his words not mine) and something was usually "done" about it if religious councelling didn't work. He said in most cases it did stop once married but there were usually a few where it didn't. It must be soul destroying to have to marry, have kids and have sex with a woman when you really aren't hetrosexual. It would make you a really unpleasant person to be around I'd imagine. So the President might be right if this interpretation of what is homosexual is there belief.
