Streaming Services Eilish Discussion
Billie to push for some CDs / cassettes please. LUNCH is a real banger. There’s actually stronger on the album but it’s an undeniable smash and I’d really welcome her to get herself another #1 here and achieve her first chart double!

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
After repeat listens this is just cementing itself even more as a real contender for Album of the year. I need to get a physical copy of this! I really want to go to her tour now as well! I need a friend to convince or take the plunge and go alone but I can imagine these tracks really coming into their own live and I really adore most of her past work now. I got the Billie bug a bit later than some on here but from around the time everything I wanted dropped I fully GOT it and then I’ve appreciated each project more since. Definitely echoing the vocalist comments though. The whisper / cursive style to me is something I think works with her sort of vocal but with this album she’s really pushed and delivered something very new vocally.

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
Album of the year so far. What a listening experience this was. The production really is immaculate here the way some of these tracks just become something totally different half way through and how they all gently merge into the next track too. Her vocals here as well being used in a way she’s never really used her vocals before. This is an example of how short albums can really work. It’s just ten tracks but it’s all killer and completely works. I love how she’s really pushed and delivered something really different here too it’s unlike any of her other work so far. Really hoping this is a big success for her. I’d definitely champion this getting some Grammys though we’ve had quite a lot of major female albums so far this year but just off first listen this is the one that’s made the biggest impression on me.

Mel B • General Discussion
I’ve been reading Mel Bs book whilst I’ve been on holiday (it came in handy on my ten hour flight!). Not yet finished it but it’s definitely been a good read so far and one I’d recommend. My favourite celebrity book I’ve read for some time.

Debate: was Olly Alexander's performance 'shocking'?
I think Olly attempted to be shocking but it didn’t necessarily pay off I think he spent too much effort on the performance / staging / attempt at choreography / shock factor that the vocals took a huge nosedive. It’s a shame because he’s far better a performer than what he’s shown us at Eurovision. I just hope we get someone next year who’s actually able to confidently perform. Sam Ryder can’t just be a fluke we have to manage it again and I do think we’d be capable with the right song.

Eurovision Song Contest 2024 · Grand Final
I’m in Mexico but managed to see the performances albeit to a delay. Can definitely see why we got that 0 terrible vocal from Olly. I’ve always loved Israel on song alone and the vocal was amongst the best so I can see why they did so well on that front. (Vocally she really ate and I can’t deny that) she had the hardest job of the night as well with the strong reaction to them being in it in the first place. Definitely not getting into the politics and just going off song as that is what it’s meant to be judged on. I am kinda glad Switzerland won over Croatia. Nemo was certainly memorable and vocally strong. Hopefully next years is less chaotic and we send someone who can actually provide a decent live vocal!

Radical Optimism • Third Album
I’m pretty impressed that she managed this in debut week! It seems we did kind of underestimate but the demand was there. I do think it’ll manage decent enough longevity as well. Definitely decent by 2024 standards at any rate. Im gonna give the album another go over the weekend I’m now on holiday so have way more free time to delve into music. I’m glad she did get the #1 though! And her first #1 debut on the albums chart too.

The Celebration Tour
I watched the Rio show this afternoon. Wow. I mean I have seen it live way back at opening weekend but it just looked absolutely electric even from a stream so to have actually been there. I’m feeling so happy now as a mega fan of hers that she’s getting so much praise. It feels so overdue but she’s in a great place now. I think she’s due a break but does Madonna ever really not do anything? Who knows what’s next to happen will it be the Biopic or new music? I’m so ready for an official release of this too! This performance really still cemented the fact she still is that woman though, the queen and her stamina and performance ability is just incredible not even just for her age but just in general. (Prays we get her for Glastonbury one day).

eternal sunshine • 7th album
I think it’s my favourite album of the year so far too (and I now genuinely feel like it may be my favourite studio album from Ariana too!). Would love it to get a real long lasting campaign but I’m very pleased with the music of this era

Leigh-Anne - Forbidden Fruit • 4th single (EP track)
Every single solo LM song so far i’m now starting to perhaps see why the X Factor judges envisioned them in a band and not as solo artists. There’s been something lacking from them all so far. This just sounds cheaply done though but then the message of the song isn’t really gonna go down well when you’re establishing your brand as a soloist.

Bumping this! Could actually be a close round here now and going forward too! Interesting to see if the results differ this time around too B-)

Radical Optimism • Third Album
Does anyone else have a hunch that there may have been a very different third album originally but the label for whatever reason weren’t pleased and she’s ended up going back to the studio with a new concept and tracks what are more like what were used to elevated slightly? The Massive Attack / Primal Scream / BRIT Pop influences don’t necessarily come across here and then the first two music videos we got dont necessarily fit what she said the albums theme was which you can kind of see in Illusions visual. I definitely have a feeling that she did actually record and go in a new direction but it isn’t coming across with what we got as the album just feeling more of the same but what she’s done better previously. I still think the album will do well. She always maintains good chart runs and I expect a re release will be happening at some point but she also has Glastonbury which will give the album a big boost then and maybe the album will perhaps come more to life there and feel different in a live setting. I don’t necessarily feel like it’s a bad album but I don’t feel strongly about it either but it could be a case of the tracks being growers. Houdini is the only real moment on this for me as of now though.

Radical Optimism • Third Album
Rated R was (to me at least) a career best masterpiece and one of the best pop albums of all time (or certainly of the 00s / 10s decade). I can totally see some collaborations happening though with those being tagged onto the album with a re-release of the album to give her another long charting era.

Radical Optimism • Third Album
I give it a listen on my way to work this morning and whilst it’s perfectly fine I think we might’ve all anticipated / expected a lot more. I think when she mentioned the influencers and producers and herself described it as not being like Future Nostalgia I kind of imagined it would be very different in sound as to what it is. The album is nice enough on the whole and there are some interesting production moments but it feels like there could’ve been a lot more of an impact / statement to make. I’ll give it some repeated listens to see what grows and how it evolves but I wasn’t overly wowed. Falling Forever is the standout for me on first listen (that intro of how looooooong) I just know there’s gonna be a EE Vanessa Gold mashup of that). I feel like if this had been her second album the reaction might’ve been different but compared to Future Nostalgia it does feel like a step down.

Jess Glynne - JESS
I’ve given this a listen on my way to work this morning. Probably her weakest album for me. Her first two each offered something even besides the singles there were some album tracks on each that were decent enough but this is just very “mid” on the whole. Nothing really stood out it’s like a full album of faceless tracks but there’s no flow or theme between the tracks either and it doesn’t show off any progression. I’d probably give it a 4/10 at best. I can definitely see why she got hits in her first two eras as some of those tracks were undeniably made for radio / playlists but this just doesn’t offer anything.

'The Fame' ● Album Discussion Thread
It’s hard to tell! It’s unlikely an international debut will pass The Fame though so that’s one record it should keep for some time. With 25, I think that might come back at some point I don’t quite know how the European shows will impact Adele with them being in Germany but both 25 and 21 have charted for several weeks this year in the 75-100 region it’s only the last few weeks where the release schedules picked up that they’ve dropped out. Definitely here for The Fame reaching the 300 weeks milestone though which should happen pretty soon. The Fame also has higher actual sales UK wise than Dua Lipa, 1989 and Teenage Dream. I wonder how long 1989 can keep international record though with the re recording now outdoing the original (the original album still charts but in the lower regions of the chart to where it was previously). Still it’s great to see The Fame cementing itself as a classic. I’m keen to actually see where it places on lists like this in other countries. I know I’m the US it’s racked up plenty weeks (and that’s purely Just The Fame as The Fame Monster was a separate release altogether there).

Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
Really hoping to nab some tickets but with the shows being in 2025 im hopeful I can try closer to the time. Very hyped for new music though. I just get her now. I’ll admit it did kind of take a little while but now i completely get her appeal and success / awards hype. The album being just 10 tracks hopefully means all killer no filler as well. I’ve read some great things about certain tracks on the album too so hoping some of those rumours are true.

Midweek #5! Where was Rita Ora in the Monday midweeks for her third album? I think that might be a realistic expectation now of what this could manage.

Rihanna - 2024 Albums Survivor Round 3
Talk that Talk gets my vote here. It’s got some career best tracks here and some album tracks that I love but as a whole album I don’t think it’s quite up there with the others which may prove unpopular here

Rihanna - 2024 Albums Survivor Round 3
Hey everyone. Round 3 is now open in the all new Rihanna albums survivor. Vote for your least favourite of the six albums which remain. Round 2 seen 19 votes and 12 votes (63.16%) went to A Girl Like Me which has now left the the countdown. I wasn’t too sure on what would go for round 2 (Music of the sun) seemed an easy first boot but after that it’s pretty hard to call. I’d probably have agreed that A Girl Like Me was the second weakest as a whole album though not that it’s essentially poor she just really grew and evolved from this point forward. A Girl Like Me seen some huge successes globally, SOS the lead single being a US #1 (her first of *to date 14*) and the album reaching becoming her second top ten album in the US reaching #5 and her first entry inside the UK top ten albums also peaking at #5. In the UK the album would eventually go 2x platinum which was a big step up from debut album Music Of The Sun. It’s crazy to think she was still so young when she released this album looking back but I do think it set her up very nicely for what was about to come. Comment and votes welcome. No closing date as of yet just when there’s a decent amount of votes. Results so far 8th: Music Of The Sun (15/21 votes) - Round 1 7th: A Girl Like Me (12/19 votes) - Round 2

'The Fame' ● Album Discussion Thread
Another album overtaken now on the all time weeks list for the UK top 100. After she passed Jess Glynnes debut earlier this year she’s now passed Tracy Chapmans debut (this is just for female studio albums as they are some female greatest hits albums on more) The list is currently as follows Amy Winehouse - Back to Black (551 combined with deluxe) Adele - 21 (412) Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa (353) Taylor Swift - 1989 (352) Adele - 25 (335) Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (326) Lady Gaga - The Fame (293) Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman (292) Currently the albums above Gaga’s are all charting (except Adele’s but both 21 and 25 have charted for several weeks this year and will likely re enter at some point). However by this she now has the longest running debut album by an international female as of this week.

Rihanna 2024 Albums Survivor: Round 2.
Last push now for some extra votes will look at closing this round tomorrow at some point before round 3 begins.
