The Funniest Catherine Tate Sketch Ever?
OMG Catherine Tate's stuff for Comic Relief was legendary. From the English class on Shakespeare . . . "Looketh at my face tho liege, am I bothereth?" to the Number 10 Downing Street work experience skit with Tony Blair saying "Am I bovvered though?" to Nan doing Deal or No Deal with Noel Edmonds. Classics

comic relief
And why does everyone blatantly keep banging on about Africa when it's by no means the whole Comic Relief agenda? I rode the emotional rollercoaster that was last night's Comic Relief to the end. The documentaries got even more harrowing in the early hours of the morning, including ones on domestic violence in the UK, the young people in the UK who are losing their childhoods because they are carers to their families, and one on the UK sex trafficking industry.

comic relief
I give up a lot of my time to do voluntary work, and I am by no means alone in doing this. I am very inspired by a lot of the people I meet. Stuff like Comic Relief is visible and raises awareness, please don't damn a whole population when many of it's members are quietly getting along trying to make a difference with the money that filters down to them - and they often have to fight extremely hard to get it. I agree with you in terms of the global political/financial $h!t . . . I have my eyes open, but I don't use cynicism or apathy as an excuse because if I did then their power is even more powerful and has exerted even more control over the masses.

What's in it for the cynic? What about the people who do stuff because they actually care?

Celeb Fame Academy is back
Glad she won. I've got a lot of time for TPT. She's spoken of how when she was in rehab she was made to 'earn' the right to play the piano there, and she worked hard and broke through her $h!t so she could play. There's a lot more to her than meets the eye, although what meets the eye is pretty good ;)

Q Top 100 Singers of all time
I didn't come to Depeche Mode until very late . . . about 2000, and in my ignorance just assumed that Martin wrote and Dave sang. It wasn't until the last couple of years that I've come to more fully appreciate the whole DM family, including how important Fletch is in keeping it all together. And in that appreciation I've realised that many of what I'd assumed were Gahan's vocals were actually Gore's!!! A Question of Lust is . . .   I have no words. And Gore singing Goodnight Lovers on Touring the Angel quite literally sends shivers down my spine. We don't mention Paper Monsters . . . ever . . . understand? It didn't happen, ok, it didn't happen

Q Top 100 Singers of all time
Good to see Dave Gahan in the list, Q did quite a good job at getting behind the Mode in 2005 around the release of Playing the Angel and the Touring the Angel tour. But at number 73? :( Ok, he doesn't have the 'technically' best voice in the world (depends on how you judge it - to me it's perfect) . . . but as an earthly instrument of the universal rock-sex-love-death energy did it not deserve to rank higher than Tom Jones and Dolly Parton?

comic relief
:( :( :( :( :( I haven't even got the energy to go into this. Global/political/religious issues considered, who with any kind of moral conscience can turn their back on human suffering, in any shape or form? If everyone just did one good thing to try and redress all the c*** things we do, the world could be a slightly better place. Oh, and Comic Relief money doesn't just go to Africa . . .

Lack of respect in society
No offence taken mate. I just get a bit *meh* and *pah* and *humpphhh* sometimes, particularly when I feel misunderstood about something important

Lack of respect in society
I really think you have totally missed my point Craig. I don't know how that is a response to what I wrote . . . ? I never said a word about 'council house kids' - which is actually a label I particularly despise. Other people had quoted socio-economic facors and I was actually trying to balance that out with emotional/pyschological factors, nothing to do with financial or social 'class' or 'status'. I also actually made the point that even in extremely deprived conditions, positive social values can be upheld. Meaning that anti-social behaviour has very little to do with whatever labels you may use such as 'working class' or 'middle class'. The point I was trying to make was more to do with emotional/pyschological impact on an individual to do with love, understanding, acceptance, having a voice, feeling valued, having a constructive outlet to express themselves, being an individual etc . . . Should I not bother? Do people just not really read my stuff, or do they just read what THEY THINK they've read?

Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80s ? There'd be a whole decade of imagery and influences to choose from!

Lack of respect in society
How can any kind of penal measure have any real effect on someone if that individual is ALREADY disengaged from the source of that penal measure . . . whether it be their family, their wider social group or society in general???
-
Lack of respect in society
. . . and individual acceptance before any kind of 'social conformity'
