  1. £40 for a concert ticket is not bad going these days, definitely paid way more than that for Leona Lewis, Bon Jovi and Rihanna recently although clearly the megastardom of those acts is miles away from Steps given they've been gone for 10 years. I really am in 2 minds about the comeback. I genuinely hope they have some sort of success (the album seems to be doing well so far) and that the tour is successful. Steps are probably my favourite act of all time and going out on top at the time was a major shock but looking back they went out at the height of their fame and at a hugely successful period in the career and that feels good in a way, they didn't dwindle away at any stage. I have so many memories from 1998-2001 such as going to the tours, hearing their new singles, learning their new dance routines  etc etc and there is so much nostalgia attached. I'd be horrified if coming back now tarnishes those memories. Watching the "This Morning" performances, there was something kinda downheartening about them being the wrong side of 30 and the routines not being as tight as they were before. On the other hand, there were so many songs that we never heard a live vocal to, including Tragedy. So, even if some of the vocals from the This Morning performance were not great (Lisa's in particular) it is genuinely pleasing to actually hear them singing this live now. I have so many Tragedy performances on VHS and not one of them was live (even the Concert performances were mimed to pre-recorded "live" vocals IIRC) so it is just wonderful to hear them actually sing live now. Long may it continue, even if the vocal isn't brilliant. I hope at some point Claire will do One For Sorrow live somewhere, I think the only time I've heard that live was on some German show shortly after it was released and Claire's voice was very pitchy. From the 2 performances on This Morning plus Popstar To Operastar, I'd be surprised if that were still the case, even if it is a very difficult song to sing. Can't wait to hear Deeper Shade of Blue (live?) on Friday, time to dust down the old Blue Peter live performance of that one and compare notes :P
  2. No, each situation should be judged on its own and if there is enough demand out there, the winner's single should get a physical release.
  3. Agree, they really were the Rihanna/Kylie of their day and had so many #2's (One For Sorrow, Better Best Forgotten, Love's Got A Hold On My Heart, It's The Way You Make Me Feel, Chain Reaction). Bloody Manic Street Preachers/Boyzone/Ricky Martin/Rui Da Silva/Kylie Bloody Minogue!!!!!! Tragedy really did get overexposed, I think they actually screened their Tragedy performance on TOTP 4 or 5 times week after week.
  4. #2 in the midweeks, c. 2.5k behind Evanescence (#1) and a couple of hundred ahead of Adele (#3). Reckon they'll end the week @ #2 with Evanescence and Adele swapping places. :cheer: :yahoo:

  7. Maroon 5's X Factor boost meaning they had just enough staying power to claim the #1 spot by less than 500 copies, exactly as I predicted on Thursday/Friday :)

Do my eyes deceive me or is Adele's RITD catching PT at the top of the radio YTD? And what are the chances Pitbull overtakes J-Lo by the year end on the TV YTD?

As clear as it ever needed to be. And conversely, the song that was hanging on in the top 10 (Pixie Lott's All About Tonight) with a stable pop bar prior to LMFAO's entrance, has now dropped to #17 in that same 55 hour period.
  10. Agree. Prior to when the Rihanna track was released, MLJ would have sold approx half of it's weekly total (Sun, Mon and Tue sales). Rihanna therefore needs to average a lead of 100% I.e. Average of M5 at 50% or less until Saturday to topple them Given she is selling about 150% more at this stage and the initial burst will drop at some point, I'd say it's still too early to call. Game on!!
  11. I genuinely don't get the love for the Rihanna track. I usually love her uptempos but this seems to be disjointed and incredibly boring.
  12. THIS. Wednesday is the lowest of the sales days of the week (along with Thursday) therefore Rihanna is up against it and need a 3x MLJ lead all week AFAIC.

I voted "large" as it is clear it does exist and exactly for the reasons stated in this thread. Its promotion of the track (in the sense that is is more promotion for each track in the top 10 over everything else from position 11 down) as it is on the front page of iTunes, the page that is seen when you first open up the iTunes store. It's like walking into a record shop and the top 10 albums are right at the front sitting on a big stand - it catches your eye and whilst it won't tempt everyone (probably won't even tempt the majority) it will tempt more than it would were that album sitting at the back of the store where it wouldn't be noticed unless it was specifically searched for. A similar thing happens when new release singles/albums are put on the front page of iTunes late on a Monday - they suddenly start shooting up even more than they were prior to that. Then when they are removed from the front page the folllowing Monday, they start to drop really quickly. Another similar thing happens when a song hits #1 on iTunes - it becomes "more visible" on the front page as it is in bigger font / single cover picture is bigger - the song almost always, without fail, starts to pull away from the #2 far quicker than the speed it was catching the previous incumbent #1. What is also clear is that vidcapper is also talking nonsense - can that be added to the poll as an option? And also, I'm sure it can be proven statistically - for example, the gap between 10 and 11 on iTunes in popbar terms is almost always WAY more than the equivalent gaps from #9-#10 and #10-#11 respectively. So that alone proves it beyond any statistical doubt; I'm sure if someone actually analysed the pop bars of #1-#20 for a month it would prove it without a shadow of a doubt.
  21. It would still be better than Florence "strangle a cat" Machine.
  22. Why (and how) is she releasing another single/album so quickly? Is this a re-release of Loud or a completely new album? I genuinely don't see how that makes her an incredible worker, does she write her own songs? Produce the arrangements? She simply puts her vocals on it. And promotes it, but then everyone does that too.
  23. I'll be hitting mute and making a cuppa during that, then. :(
