BNP make inroads
I can. The BNP's support in my view is split into three categories. 1) The "die-hard". These are the people that either a) are attracted to extreme politics. They'd vote for the Communists if they had a strong enough party just as much as they'd vote for the BNP. B) the same folks that voted for the National Front etc, the people who actually hold the racial views that the BNP do. 2) The protest vote. These are the people who are disaffected with politics. Perhaps they don't agree with them at all, but it's a change from the neo-liberal policies that all the major parties hold. The centrist ground that "nu labour" took us into. The BNP are a better protest vote because, it might help the politicians actually shape up. 3) The ones who have no choice. These the unemployed or low wage workers, who feel abandoned by Westminster. In the past, even in this country, but more so in places like Russia. These working class people would go towards the left, but now "the left" are just the same as the Conservatives, or hardly exist at all. The BNP provide ample examples for scapegoats. Looking back into history, Jews, the Irish, Black people, Mexicans have all been used as scapegoats. Hell, for my coursework in History A-Level I managed to blabber on about "scapegoating" for ages! This time it's Eastern Europeans, and soon the BNP will use Turks if they get admitted to the EU. People who have lost their job, or wages have been driven down need someone to blame. BNP come along with their messages, the unemployed worker on the dole "puts 2 and 2 together" and there you go, another potential supporter. It's another thing them getting off their backsides and voting, but it's a start. The "anti-BNP" campaign that has been spread about by the media, and groups like Unite Against Fascism, also I think help the BNP more than hinder. Giving vague statements like "Vote anyone but BNP" surely encourages people to have a look at why they're "so bad"? When you were a kid, when someone in authority said "don't do that", you would think about doing it? I don't like the British National Party, as in the "politicians" who make the policy, spout racism and the like, but I could not for any moment share the same "hatred" a lot of the people who vote for them. Lifelong Labour voters, whose family have voted Labour since they were given the vote doesn't just turn "fascist" overnight...

Little Boots "Hands" || 08·06·09
This for me, is one of my favourite music videos ever. For the wrong reasons. It's so utterly shocking that I found it hilariously funny, homeless tramps pushing Supermarket trolleys in some sort of routine. Hispanic gangsters having a "fight" which turns into a dance-off, with a disabled guy watching. Then some of the most awful depictions of "sex" ever. 'Prostitutes' being what looks like, tortured in a car-park by numerous men. Hideous. Now I have to explain to my Mum why I was laughing my head off for 3 minutes.

Formula 1 2009 Thread
Here is one for the UK viewers of F1. Anyone think the lead commentator for the BBC, Jonathan Legard is a complete idiot? Some of his "gaffes" have been awful, today for example, he said after Q1. Legard ; "What has happened to Brawn's pace, Button 14th, Barrichello 15th" Brundle ; "No, they order them at the start of Q2 in numerical order" There has been a few others that slip my mind of particular events, he muffled his first line at the first broadcast of the season and often mixes up drivers of the same team. The rest of them though, Brundle, Jordan, Humphreys and Coulthard are extremely good I feel though. Got a feeling though, tomorrow's race will be incredibly dull...

The Grand National at Aintree
The bookies always win eventually. Really surprised about the result, not even a inkling that Mon Mome could win in the form book, guess it just put out the race of it's life, last we'll hear of it I think.

The Decemberists 'The Hazards of Love' // 23-03-09
I really don't know what to think. On first listen it has a brilliant few songs at the start, but then DROPS considerably. Perhaps it's just a bit too long and optimistic? Definitely will be giving this a few listens though, it deserves it.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'It's Blitz!' // 06-04-09
I don't normally agree with your views on music... but on this occasion I definitely do. The album after a few songs bores me in general, and it does seem to be quite pedestrian in places. I'd still say it was "quite good" but nothing of the "brilliant, fantastic" hype it has been getting.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'It's Blitz!' // 06-04-09
Am I the only the person in the world that didn't really like it on first listen? :( I enjoyed the first few songs and what have you, but by time it was getting towards the latter part of the album, I was bored. I'll give it more listens though, I'm sure.

Strange this, because, my friend used to know the lad who played COOKY when she was about 13 or something. But they parted ways, and not like he'd recognise her or owt :o

Lily Allen sparks new drugs controversy
Not really paying much attention to what Lily actually has to say (I don't really care). The wider argument is about the prohibition of drugs at a whole. It was only a week or so ago that the Government's chief drugs adviser said something on the lines of "that taking the drug was no more dangerous than an addiction to horse riding". Here is a point I agree with, although having very few drug-taking experiences, I do associate with people who do recreational drugs so know more than a fair majority of the general public. What I tend to agree with is that most drugs, such as E's, Cannabis, "Shrooms" etc should be legalised, which in turn would bring benefits to society in general, the economy (global and domestic) and the drug users themselves. Alcohol related deaths in 2007 were 8,724. Off the top of my head, 3 people have died because of cannabis. And a few more die of Ecstasy related deaths. Surely this is disproportionate? If drugs were to be legalised, it'd be possible to set up "licensed premises" or the like, not many in each place (one or two in each City). Here, the drug taking would be in controlled doses, in a safe environment with security and support if anything did go wrong. With this, can come tax and other costs on to the drugs. Making sure they don't become too expensive would continue to encourage people to go to these "pubs for drugs". With these extra taxes, drug education in Schools can become more prevalent and could be taught (especially in secondary schools) the pro's and cons of drug-taking, the risks associated etc. Making it legal could also make it less fashionable, although this argument doesn't really wash with me, as alcohol is legal but it is still fashionable to do  Some people want to get absolutely off their faces, some just want to have a bit of fun. With a secure environment to do so in, with the right support given to people who want to get off the drugs, funded by the tax made off them. These people would be off the streets. It'd also help promote a "free country", not the nanny state that we currently live in! It's a shame I couldn't just copy and paste you an essay I had to do on this subject not so long ago, especially as it was the one that got me offers from two "prestigious" universities  (Although not Oxbridge).

Oh god. I'm currently £35 down on my betting experiences since I turned 18 (in early December), so I'm currently not betting at all in protest of my foul luck.

Jamie T; Returning in 2009
New "demo" seems to have been released today, indicating he'll be back this year I reckon. Good news too, really enjoyed his last album but it has been so long, what with all his American adventures and what have you. Anyway. No idea what to think of this, it seems a huge change of direction... but it's only a demo so who knows? Perhaps it's something to throw us all off. MO81BSx7mFA Thoughts?

Well I downloaded and it's nothing spectacular on first listen. Will probably be a grower, but is still a solid album.

clough follows in his dads footsteps
Clough is a smug c**t and I'd just love to smack him in the face. I hope/and think he'll fail miserably at Derby. He had a £1million budget at Burton, and although he had assembled a good side, it's not exactly hard when you can pay players £0000's a week for playing PART-TIME (most teams are full-time). Credit obviously goes for the cup-run they had but still. It'll be a big step up and he's in at the deep end, as well he's a "family comes first" man, can see him walking away if there is too much stress/doing badly.

Animal Collective 'Merriweather Post Pavilion' 06.01.09
All we need now is for Jonny to come into this thread and say that he prefers the demo version...
