Lee Mead, "Any Dream Will Do" [#01 Next Week?]
Lee was my favourite Joseph and I think he could release some great records, but this isn't one of them, so I won't be buying. I did think it would have been straight to the top of the download chart, but I'm sure physical sales will more than make up for it next week, but maybe not selling as much as I had expected.

I don't have any more details about the event itself, other than it being from 12-12, so there could be quite a few people on, but it is also a long time to hang around without specific information about who is on when. I read that Lil' Chris was supposed to be there too. It would be an odd thing for The Star to make up, but there's been nothing on Gareth's OS about it. I wouldn't treat that as gospel anyway, because he often appears on things with absolutely no warning. I only hope he knows what he is supposed to be doing!

Not if they've got any sense. HMV are charging half as much, and offering free postage, plus the first 350 orders will be signed! :D

UK Top75 Singles/Albums
Congratulations to Rihanna topping both charts. She's doing so well right now. I'm disappointed Mutya only just managed to get into the top 10 with her album, but hopefully it can hang around for a while.

What would help improve single sales?
More proper music shows in the vein of TOTP or CD:UK, and less cookery shows. Being able to buy a CD single without having to catch three buses and trek through the shop to get to the very back.

Will Young vs James Morrison vs Mutya Buena vs Joss Stone
Beverley Knight is the best, and I love her, so voted for her, but James Morrison is probably my favourite at the minute. I don't think of him as soul particularly though, so he can't be best at that. The weakest singers are probably Simon Webbe and Jamelia, but Joss is bloomin' annoying. Great voice, but boy does she wail.

Will123 is far too obviously trying to stir things to be credible. The Mail reported this story as being featured in the documentary, and said that was why Gareth didn't like to be recognised when he went out. They also claimed that when being interviewed about it for the documentary, Gareth said he hadn't told his parents about it yet, because he hadn't wanted to worry them. It wasn't in the final documentary, and I had wondered if it had been edited out at the last minute, which would explain the way in which it seemed to lack proper structure and they were so interested in how people reacted to him in the street. The Mail also said at the time that Gareth lived in a small one bedroom rented flat in London and tried to make him sound all tragic, so I also thought they could be making it all up. I don't suppose they would repeat it during a proper feature, which included an interview if it wasn't true, although I don't think asked him directly. It's quite a sad reflection on the society we live in, and unfortunately isn't restricted to famous faces. Whatever kicks those lads got out of what they did, I bet they don't know a fraction of the happiness Gareth knows. Angel On My Shoulder is available for download tomorrow! :yahoo:

Available for download on 11th! Sorry, it's not that great quality again, but here's Gareth at the Breathing Life awards that were on tv last night. x6_UlrIe63Y and on Paul O'Grady last week. wakUgeVLCyg

Apparently Terry Wogan said it was a good song and it's great to have Gareth back. All we need now is for local radio to get into it! Radio 1 is a lost cause.

I think Darren is a fantastic singer, songwriter and showman, so it's a happy comparison for me, although if a comparison were to be made, Angel on My Shoulder puts me in mind of George Michael, particularly with the vocals and even more so on the acoustic versions we've heard. On the other hand, the title track to Gareth's album, Pictures of the Other Side is much more Darren. This is a performance he did of that at an awards ceremony. 66LoDYIzDII I'm sorry the other one isn't working any more. It wasn't official, just something made by one of the German fans.

Gareth will be on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 tomorrow lunchtime. He's also singing at events in Blackpool and Sheffield on Sunday if you fancy a day out. :cheer:

McFly demand respect
They probably do deserve more respect, but whining about it won't help, especially if they are going to make digs about Take That being a stereotypical boyband.

Some Alesha news
I really want to hear her album. I hope this works out for her.

How high will Mutya's Real Girl get in the charts?
I'm going for top 5. It's done very well on downloads, but I think it's a song that people are more likely to download, than want to buy in a physical format and there is some strong competition at the top. She'll have some Sugababes fans who will want a physical copy, but Sugababes fans were never that big on buying every single for the sake of it, so I'm not sure she can rely on them too much.

Shaznay admits All Saints regrets
I think the problem was that the people involved with the project assumed that it would be easy to get the interest, as there was for Take That, except it wasn't easy for them. Thyeir PR machine had been rolling for a year before they released their new album. They'd had the documentary, and all the hype building up to that, then the re-released Greatest Hits, then the new tour all tapping back into their old fan-base, impressing the people who hadn't paid that much attention first time round and gaining a place in the centre-stage of the entertainment industry all before they had even announced their new single and album. All Saints assumed their previous reputation was enough, and Rock Steady was a great song, but their image wasn't working. They didn't connect with their old audience, never mind any new fans. They should have released two singles before the album, and most crucially, they should have looked eager to be back, and been a bit more amenable to the people in the press. They looked like we should be grateful to have them, and tv and radio interviewers were lucky to get them as guests.

Jessica Garlick - New Album On The Way?
Wikipedia has correctly reported the Never Mind The Buzzcock's statement, but Spring is all but over. I hope she gets to release something, or does something like a musical, because she is an excellent singer. Does anyone know if she has actually put together an album, and how? I know all the finalists in the first Pop Idol earned enough money via the tour and Big Band CD to tide them over for a bit, but it's been five years, and apart from Eurovision she doesn't seem to have been earning.

Will rape seed and olive be joining you soon? Or are you sticking to oils that come from yellow flowers? It is impressive that you know so much about Gareth fans, despite being so new, or have you been lurking for months, and this is the first time you've seen a thread that interested you so much, you felt compelled to register so you could join in? What's weirder, fans reading and writing about music that interests them, or someone with an inability to use capital letters, registering with 2 similar names within an hour of a new thread appearing, with the sole intent of picking faults? AOMS already seems to be on more playlists than Changes was on, which was expected. The song is much catchier. Not the proper video, or even the proper version, but this acoustic performance of Angel from Jonathon Ross is still fabulous! BTYtOps4Now

Ross Copperman - All She Wrote
He's got a good sound, and deserves to do better than this week's midweeks were suggesting, but once he builds up enough momentum I think he'll do very well. I'm sure he's scheduled to play at Glastonbury etc.

Disappeared Into Obscurity....Shayne Ward
Awuski works at one of Simon Cowell's favourite studios in Sweden and if I remember correctly, wrote Shayne's last single and a number of others, so knows more than most members here, so I wouldn't be too quick to scoff. Then again, I also remember him insisting that he knew for a fact that Mark from Westlife was definitely very heterosexual.

Beverley Knight needs your help - Midweeks inside...
I hope she can hang on in there. Her promotion has hotted up nicely this week, with an appearance on Paul O'Grady, and Later with Jools Holland.

New Single Announced!
I'm not sure about number one, but top 5 has to be a safe bet. I think it will be pushing album sales rather than making a big splash in its own right. I hope we get to see the video for Reach Out in the UK too. :cheer:

Gareth Gates, it's official, and confirmed
Acoustic versions of songs can work so well if the singer isn't just a good singer, but if they have an attractive voice, which can be lacking in a lot of people who can hold a tune. I think fundamental to Pop Idol was the heats round to get from 50 to 10 that had each person singing with just a piano. The quality of the voice was paramount. I heard the studio version of Angel On My Shoulder on Radio 2 a coupe of weeks ago, and it sounded very good. It has quite a bit of production, but I think in a good way, to support and develop the song, rather than to swamp it. I look forward to hearing it again, but not too soon, because I don't want it to peak too soon. I still think Changes is a good song, but it sounds like an album track, not single. The difference between album tracks and singles shouldn't be about quality, more about how accessible it is, and in which circumstances you might listen to it, and I think the artists themselves are rarely in the best position to know which is which from an album they have been working very closely on for months (or years). If you missed it, the Popworld interview. 3Gr03gez6gM
