  1. So glad The Long and Winding Road got a look-in. Didn't think it would make it.

The cast is far too big with a load of people you just don't care about. Just when you start to care about a character (as I have with the young girl who has taken on the role of doctor) that character will get killed off in a silly, senseless manner! In short ... TWD is just a pile of pants at the moment.
  3. I'm not too worried about the bank balance as I can afford the ticket (even two at a push) its just I keep thinking on the dark side ... what if the tickets don't arrive, what if they get pinched, I'll have to book all other sorts of things (accommodation, travel ... and what if Jeff Lynne drops dead in the meantime ... I mean he is pushing into his 70's!!!!!)
  4. We got GA tickets for one of The Circus concerts (at Lancashire Cricket Ground) and of the three times I saw them there - THEY were the best seats and view we had. Sure - we were a little way back - but a totally unrestricted view, nice seats with leg room, and besides - the screens mean you see everything anyway (lets face it - unless you are right up at the front - you're not going to see much anyway). The only thing with GA is that you have to get there really early because its first come first served for the seating - our coach got us there nice and early (so early in fact that we had time to go to Man United's football ground and have a relaxing coffee beforehand in one of their bars). I'm still umming and arring about ELO! The ONLY tickets I want are £120 each! If I do try - I've decided to go alone.
  5. Corbyn snubs national treasure Incy Wincy Spider! https://twitter.com/BBCLouise/status/664429...6462080/video/1 The shame!

I watch Emmerdale fairly regularly now (well more than the other two main ones) but I'll still look forward to this episode. I'm thinking there'll be more than a touch of Mrs Richards / Basil Fawlty from that classic FT episode.
  7. My favourite is a song that I used to dislike for a long long time (well not dislike but it certainly wasn't my favourite) and that's The Long and Winding Road (it obviously won't come anywhere in the vote). Having said that - its more like a solo song so I'm not sure it deserves to be called a Beatles song. With that in mind - I'll go for either Paperback Writer or Hello Goodbye!
  8. One ticket would be OK - but I'll feel obliged to get two! £240 (plus fees) is a lot of money! When I went to see them at Wembley in 1978 our tickets were £8 each!!!!! There was only one of us who had a parent with a cheque book so Mrs Molloy very kindly sent a letter off to the venue with the requisite cheque and voila ... tickets arrived not long after. Can you imagine that happening today? The venue selling the tickets???? How very DARE they?

Well it was good to see an episode that featured one of the better characters more (Aaron) but at the end of the day - another filler episode. Looks like next week's one may be good though - Abe, Sacha and Daryl.
  10. I've just seen the prices for Jeff's ELO tour. I may HAVE to sell all my worldly possessions to go!!!!!

And what a pile of shite tonight's final episode was. Barely four minutes for Thomas!!!!! Glad I only recorded it and FF'd to the bits of interest. All over in two minutes!
  12. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any upcoming concerts from Jeff Lynne (with his former ELO colleague Richard Tandy - all that is left of ELO now). I know from being a lifelong fan of ELO that Jeff Lynne used to hate the live/touring part - he loved the writing, studio and production side of things. I think he's changed recently as I know he enjoyed that Hyde Park thing he did. I'd quite honestly sell all my worldly belongings to see him live again (I went to see the iconic Out of the Blue tour in 1978 and that was unforgettable. I remember everything about the whole day in London - not just the concert - including goofy pictures taken of us with the Burghers of Calais!!!!!)
  13. Its more the general 'cheeriness' of Penny Lane I'm thinking of (rather than the more downbeat, sadness of Eleanor Rigby). You're right though - definitely a Beatles vibe. I've just listened to National Express again - and there are definitely elements of that in it. I love the Divine Comedy song - the lyrics are fabulous.
  14. Its more of a cross between ELO's Diary of Horace Wimp and The Beatles' Penny Lane. There's also a tiny bit quite a bit of Divine Comedy's National Express in there. Not a trace of Eleanor Rigby in it. I'll admit though - it is quite catchy.

Love that! Especially number 12! The one about the soup and the bullet was chuckle-worthy too! Definitely more interesting than the episode itself!

I really did like the Eastman character though. When he was telling the story about the guy who killed his family - it was ever (ever) so slightly reminiscent of Quint telling the story of the Indianapolis in Jaws (my favourite part of that film). I found myself rooting more for him than for Morgan (who quite frankly is a bit of a liability). I found Tabitha the Goat more root-worthy than Morgan. I just don't get the Morgan adoration ... I just don't.

John Carroll Lynch was the sole redeeming part of that episode. I really still don't give a fig about Morgan. He's as boring as he ever was (and equally adept at getting good people killed as Rick is - no wonder they were once friends).
  18. Jay it reached its 'comfortable top 20 position' largely thanks to a concerted effort by the fans on their website(s) at the time. If what was said was to be believed - there were people buying 20 copies at a time (downloading and physical) for themselves and for friends/relatives who perhaps didn't even want it. I HATED IWFL - but because at the time I was one of those devoted fans - I bought a copy. I think the reason it didn't pick up any passing buyers was because (a) it wasn't a very good single (although I agree with you - the video was very good) and (b) as a song - it was a vanity project for Gary to show off his vocal talents - the other three may as well have not been there! Even me - as a massive Gary fan at the time - could see that that was glaringly obvious. I remember watching it being performed on 'An Audience With ...' and felt a bit embarrassed for Mark, Howard and Jason. The 'b' side of the single was quite chirpy little number though - so my purchase wasn't a total waste of time. A lot of people wanted 'Reach Out' to be the third single - and I agree with that. I think if Reach Out had have been released - it would have been another top 10 single for them - possibly top 5 (and it would have hung around the top 75 for at least a month - unlike IWFL which I believe dropped right out of the top 75 the week after - or was well on its way).

I thought it was a very gory episode not necessarily a good episode. Nowhere nearly as good as last week's. Maybe it'll alternate - one week bad, one week good.
  20. Milly - I can't believe I agree with you on the Adele song!!
  21. That's why I put (if true) after the sentence - some people have been saying it isn't. I wouldn't know as I don't follow what they do anymore like I once did. BTW - I've just heard Adele's song - and it may have fantastic production values - but boy oh boy is that one boring, lazy song! If only Amy were still here - she'd show what raw emotion was. Adele's sultry (yet ever so slightly croaky) voice seems such a well-rehearsed trick now.
  22. I have to agree with you. I saw both The Circus (three times actually) and the Progress show at Manchester. Curiosity more than anything brought me to the Progress concert as I wanted to see what all the fuss about Robbie was (I wanted to see his solo set - but couldn't stand him for a whole show). I have to admit that his solo set was the only thing that made sense about the whole night - and I can see why his fans adore him. Personally I can't stand his laddish behaviour - but he certainly has charisma. You're right - it was too disjointed. Take That as a four bit at the beginning - just seemed very subdued and a little gimmicky for no other reason than being gimmicky. And I have to add - the robot thing wasn't a patch on the elephant in The Circus! The Circus on the other hand - everything made sense - but in a highly enjoyable, extremely well-planned and professional way - yet done with excellent humour. It made reference to their earlier silly times (I'm thinking about the underpants thing) and at the same time - won them more fans. On the coach going back from one of The Circus gigs - there were Deep Purple, Led Zep, Black Sabbath fans (males mainly) who agreed they'd only gone to please their partners - but came away saying it was one of the most enjoyable experiences they'd had from a concert. And having said all of that - I preferred The Beautiful World Tour! Back to Hey Boy though. I've heard it a couple of times - no real feelings on it really - its neither awful nor brilliant. A trifle dated perhaps but then again - some dated stuff can work if the melody is good enough. Its canny of Gary though to leave his name off the writing (if true) - I thought everything this time around was going to be written by 'Take That'. Maybe Gary only wants his name attached to the good stuff and the others can take sole credit for the not so good stuff. Gotta go now - got an online Scrabble game going on and I think the other person is cheating!

Sad news - Peter Baldwin (Derek) from Coronation Street has passed away. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3/coron...~prXpQS1ysyLf55 I loved Derek. Peter's toy/puppet shop in Covent Garden was a must visit whenever I went to London as well.

That episode was so much better than the opener last week. Melissa McBride is fantastic.
