Pushing past Gaga and P!nk who kept her at bay in 2010, Rihanna is the winner of the BUZZJACK FEMALE SLAMDOWN 2011. Who'd ever have thought that Rihanna would be one of (if not), the biggest pop stars in the world back in 2005 when she released 'Pon De Replay'? She has come a long way since then, changing her style, her image, her boyfriend and she keeps getting bigger and bigger with each era. Just when you think she's going to peak and can't possibly out do her current material, she wheels out another record that does even better than the last. 'Umbrella' will forever remain a favourite of mine, but she makes each album accessible. I could go on and on and on and make a big deal over her achievements but it's fair to say, that she may not be considered the most talented or fascinating artist in the world, but Rihanna is certainly in a league of her own and is fully deserving of the crown in this year's competition. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/uploads/group_images/of_76.jpg - Chart History - Pon De Replay If It's Lovin' That You Want SOS Unfaithful We Ride Break It Off (Feat Sean Paul) Umbrella Shut Up & Drive Hate That I Love You (Feat Ne-Yo) Don't Stop The Music Take A Bow Disturbia If I Never See Your Face Again (Maroon 5 Feat Rihanna) Rehab (Feat Justin Timberlake) Live Your Life (T.I Feat Rihanna) Run This Town (Jay Z Feat Kanye West & Rihanna) Russian Roulette Rude Boy Te Amo Love The Way You Lie (Eminem & Rihanna) Only Girl (In The World) What's My Name (Feat Drake) S&M California King Bed Man Down http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9885146.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9878575.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1771728.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RIHANNARATEDR.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/2752365.JPG _iQRXuAo6Eg
  3. 2 5 Beyonce 810 Highest Position: 1 (troylovesmusic, Aled, Leonardo, Theo, Lovett) Bitch Slap(s): 3 (DanieLMFAO, Doug, Big Mistake) Number of Votes: 39 Most Known Hits: Independent Women, Survivor, Bootyliscious, Lose My Breath, Single Ladies, Halo, If I Were A Boy, Crazy In Love, Run The World (Girls), Sweet Dreams, Beautiful Liar http://www.beyoncestar.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/beyonce_knowles_30.jpg Well a lot has already been said with regards to Beyonce in this thread, so I'm going to keep my comments brief. She started out in Destiny's Child back in the 1990s and launched a solo career in 2002 with the song 'Work It Out' from the Austin Powers Goldmember movie. Her solo endeavours really took off the following year with one of pop's classic tracks 'Crazy In Love' and her debut solo album both topping the UK charts and achieving huge international success, and since then Beyonce has never looked back. Hits such as 'Irreplaceable', 'Halo', 'Single Ladies', 'Listen', 'If I Were A Boy' and 'Beautiful Liar' have been flung into charts across the globe. And it's not just as a solo artist that Beyonce has gained international recognition, as Destiny's Child are regarded as the biggest selling girlband in the world after the Spice Girls. She has delivered some pretty good songs, though there's nothing in her back catalogue I feel is particularly spectacular, she's also rather hit and miss with her material. A lot more so than any of the other artists in the top 10. I'd say she's my least favourite of the lot tbh, but fair dues to her as she rises to the runner up slot. She led P!nk by over 100 points and also tied with her for the 2nd highest amount of votes. Also Kylie Minogue was the only artist to be placed at #1 by posters than Beyonce. P.S try taking a sip of alcohol everytime she says HALO in the song of the same name. It's a jolly good cunted time. bnVUHWCynig
  4. This may seem weird but Beyonce reminds me a lot of Mariah Carey. Beyonce's material is evidently FAR better but the two of them are considered amongst the greats but looking at their musical output it is really baffling to understand why.

  7. So Beyonce and Rihanna are now going head to head to be crowned this year's winner. Rihanna was 3rd last year whilst Beyonce was 5th but which one of them will be Gaga's successor? I can reveal that they were both over 100 points clear of P!nk. Do I think they're a worthy top 2? Erm nooooos. 8. 3 2 P!nk 703 Highest Position: 1 (GrAmii) Bitch Slap(s): 0 Number of Votes: 39/51 Most Known Hits: So What, Just Like A Pill, Trouble, Who Knew, Perfect, Don't Let Me Get Me, Family Portrait http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rBYzEodZ0P0/TT1ifuJSDII/AAAAAAAAB9Y/8MK_ih9wT7k/s400/pink.jpg Well with the P!nk debate going on currently, I feel a bit defeated in my mission to provide commentary on her  Then again I am so bored of commentary :( P!nk is probably my favourite artist ever (who isn't a rock band). She continues to perform strongly on this countdown despite many people writing her off, she got very consistent votes (joint 2nd highest amount). I'm so glad she ditched the hideous RnB sound she adopted for her first record back in 2000. She's delivered album after album and is clearly comfortable when she can truly unleash her personality. Her songs are honest and touching - she's tackled masturbation, self hatred, self harm, politics, death, angst, drugs, hookers and erm Jessica Simpson stealing her table. P!nk may be overlooked by a lot of people but she's not fake. She's honest and her music reflects that. She'll never be able to stand up to the likes of Britney, Madonna, Kylie, Gaga et al all who have their huge domineering followings and have undeniably the image and controversy to go along with their music, but she certainly holds her own. P!nk is currently said to working on studio album #6. I personally think it will show evolution. I think the greatest hits tracks were 'safe' because they were only for a GH. She didn't need to release anything that blows pop apart. For me 'Perfect' is her best song since 'Who Knew' anyways. NJWIbIe0N90
  9. 4 12 Katy Perry 693 Highest Position: 2 Bitch Slap(s): 2 (03mj2808, 152 Chris) Number of Votes: 34 Most Known Hits: I Kissed A Girl, California Gurls, Firework, Teenage Dreams, Hot n Cold http://i.rickey.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/katy_perry-sucker.jpg I'm not going to pretend that Katy Perry is the most talented singer in the world. We all know that's false. She's very much of 'the now', but if she keeps churning out albums like 'Teenage Dream', she's going to be on top of the charts for a long time to come... Perry was originally a gospel singer but rose to notoriety with 'I Kissed A Girl' back in 2008 with its controversial lyrics. 'Hot N Cold' followed and collaborations with Timbaland and 3Oh!3 kept Katy in the spotlight whilst she geared up to release her second album. 'California Gurls' has became her biggest track to date kicking off the 'Teenage Dream' campaign and seeing the singer score 4 consecutive #1 hits in the US, with the possibility of a 5th if 'Last Friday Night' can ever overthrow LMFAO... Despite the singles and 'Self Inflicted' from her debut album, I was very underwhelmed, but didn't really think she'd ever become as massive as she currently is. She's definitely at the top of her game right now alongside Rihanna and there's only one track I'm not too keen on with regards to TD ('Who Am I Living For'). She doesn't break any boundaries or try and pretend that she's creating music that will change the face of the Earth but TD is pure and perfect pop. 'Firework' still makes me orgasm but it's not just the singles that draw me to the record. After seeing Perry live, I'm also quite attached. She wasn't half as bad as I expected. Her huge climb is evidently due to the brilliant year she's had. Now let's just see if she can keep it up for the release of album #3. Perry is also the highest placed artist to not be placed at #1 in anybody's chart. Oh and apparentlys she's just had her hair done erm pink... QGJuMBdaqIw

Hope JOH can get top 10 before the weekend! Shocked at how far Example and Derulo have fallen even if they do have another version.
  11. Oooh interesting! I'm already optimistic about the new CW head. I mean a couple of extra episodes here and there isn't the second coming but the huge amounts of repeats they put in definitely batters their ratings a lot. Between this and 'Ringer' and 'The Secret Circle' they could do quite well this year. If only now they'd pull out one of their failed pilots for a mid season order and not some second rate reality crap to bridge the gap between ANTM.
  12. Just to stir things up a lil bit :kink: 5 8 Britney Spears 672 Highest Position: 1 (Nick F1, Dannjohn3, Alex!) Bitch Slap(s): 4 (SceneofSIXcrimes, Aphrodite, Karma, troylovesmusic) Number of Votes: 33 Most Known Hits: Baby One More Time, Ooops! I Did It Again, Toxic, Everytime, I'm A Slave 4 U, Womanizer, Gimme More, Stronger http://backoffice.zirki.info/artimg/file/-/56d8c6b7c8a30ef50d223e7affb09d45.jpg We all remember late 1998 when that 'virginal' teenager in the racy school uniform embedded herself in pop culture history. I'm talking about 'Baby One More Time', one of the biggest selling singles in global history. Thus the career of former Mickey Mouse Club disciple Britney Spears was born. Over a decade later and she's just released her 7th studio album 'Femme Fatale and is considered one of the most iconic and best selling female singers of recent times. I can't really say a lot more because so much has already been covered in the three page spat going on  I personally now cringe at her old bubblegum pop stuff but she has made some absolute classics in her day. Cringe factor aside though I much prefer her earlier material. For me she peaked with 'In The Zone' which is one of pop's greatest albums. Her material since the highly publicised breakdown in the middle of the 2000s has declined with each record. I fail to see why 'Blackout' is held in such high regard? It was very innovative at the time but the majority of it sucked. I haven't liked a Britney track since 2005 - the only one that comes close is 'Piece of Me'. She may not be huge in the UK anymore but still has a dedicated worldwide following - so here's the Spears climbing 3 places from last year's position ^_^ fAXgGWY6X5E
  13. I'm not sure celebrating a century since it happened is appropriate  I know what you mean though :P I'm also surprised no film has surpassed £100,000,000.
  14. Nah JLP is one of my favourite albums ever. Probably in the top 3! The singles alone are amongst some of the best songs of the 1990s but even the album tracks are superb. I remember my dad used to play it all the time though which is probably why I rate it so highly  I really loved SFIJ. 'Baba' repulsed me though. It was the only weak link for me on the whole record though. Is she ever planning to release new material?

The Guetta song is AWFUL! I really don't think it should out peak or out sell 'Where Dem Girls At' tbh. It's FAR worse than that. Not liking any of his new material this year so far. I also don't want JOH to be one of those hits that climbs up really quickly and stalls outside the top 10 for an eon and never makes it inside. It's a gorgeous song and has been released at just the right time when Adele has revived interest in that sort of music again.
  16. 'Underneath' was a gem! Alanis did kinda tank rather quickly after 'Jagged Little Pill' though, which is such a shame because all of her albums are brilliant.
  17. 6 1 Lady Gaga 671 Highest Position: 1 (CHRIS, Chart Wizard, Klumzee) Bitch Slap(s): 6 (THEO, Lovett, Nick F1, Lukuzz, Lee Wallace, Superbass) Number of Votes: 34 Most Known Hits: Poker Face, Bad Romance, Just Dance http://images.starpulse.com/news/media/Lady-Gaga-jet-2.jpg I couldn't go away without one MAJOR shock. Kept out of the top 5 by 1 point, Queen Gaga falls from her perch all the way down to #6. She received the most Bitch Slaps from the voters and even with those deducted points added to her total would've only have mustered a very distant 3rd place this year. I think part of the problem is that the hype is fading fast. Whilst opening to more than a million sales in the US and more than 200,000 units in the UK 'Born This Way' is not a patch on her earlier material. I find the majority of songs offputting. The album is very experimental and the glam-rock influences are evident despite the tracks being covered with the typical electro-pop coating. Other than 'Hair', 'Government Hooker' and 'Edge of Glory', I'm not really that impressed. Gaga of course shot to fame back in 2008 with 'Just Dance'. Hit after hit followed from her massive selling 'Fame/Fame Monster' combination. The album has not left the UK top 75 since its release back in Jan 2009! She's made the biggest impact on the pop scene for the best part of a decade, even if current sales are not as huge as her debut. I think she still has the potential to have a long and successful career but will never quite match the status of her debut era again. People seemed to have bored of her constant outfits and crazy acts and videos (as evident by the under performance of 'Judas'). Negativity aside and Gaga is still one of the most innovating and interesting pop artists to emerge for quite some time and despite divided opinion over her current record is still amongst if not the most prominent female singer currently active. Okq8xHrIZ8I
  18. 'Secrets' is a brill OneRep song. Hung around for yonks in America too I remember despite not charting that high. I will always love MCR. Really because their first 3 albums are all solid and for me far more consistent than Muse's work (who are also excellent). I also got into them at a rough time in my life and really found the lyrics interesting and thought provoking. The new record is pretty decent also but it just doesn't pack the same punch.
  19. Four of last year's top 5 remain (Beyonce, Gaga, P!nk and Rihanna). Britney moves up from #8 and Katy Perry from #12. More tomorrow ^_^
  20. Anywaysio. Here is the highest new entry this year :) 7 NE Adele 609 Highest Position: 2 Bitch Slap(s): 2 (CHRIS, LaLa2586) Number of Votes: 34 Most Known Hits: Rolling In The Deep, Someone Like You, Make You Feel My Love http://www.musichouses.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Adele.jpg The points were much higher this year due to more voters and the amount of females you could vote for so over 600 we goeth. Undoubtedly the biggest global star of 2011 is Adele. She burst onto the scene in 2008, amidst a heap of critical praise only to be overshadowed by the quite awful Duffy. Regardless, Adele built up a name for herself on an international level winning two awards at the 2009 Grammys. Her debut album '19' spawned four chart singles including 'Chasing Pavements' and a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Make You Feel My Love'. This hit became crucial for the barrage of promotion that proceeded her 2011 follow up '21. Whored to death by the X Factor last year and reaching a new peak on the charts nearly two years after it's original release, Adele was boosted firmly back into the spotlight when she smashed in at #2 back in Jan this year with 'Rolling In The Deep'. Since then '21' has been unstoppable, the world over, outselling every other album released this year by miles in most territories. 'Someone Like You' received a stunning BRITS performance and raced to #1 in the UK becoming the first track to top a million sales in a calendar year since 2005. '21' could pass 10,000,000 global sales by the end of 2011, an amazing feat in the current albums climate. It's shocking that the singer didn't even feature in the countdown last year which just goes to show how much the current music scene has impacted the voting this year. That aside, '21' is definitely a once in a generation type record and it is well deserved of it's mammoth success. FlsBObg-1BQ
  21. Problem with Britney is she became bigger than her music. Not by her own means but certainly the media have played a huge part in creating her as some form of tabloid royalty. People just don't seem that fussed about the music nowadays. I definitely think she made the biggest impact on the pop scene since Madonna in terms of female singers anyway, even if she has now been replaced by Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna et all.
  22. I don't like the idea of ANOTHER remix. It seems silly to me and just an attempt to try and get that 5th number #1. Especially if it's Missy Elliot.
  23. http://www.25thframe.co.uk/chartspagetempl...rce=ukboxoffice I found this site yesterday whilst researching how well the last HP film had done in the UK. It's obviously a little out of date as it only covers the first week of said film's release, but is a rough template at least of the highest grossing films released here. The site lists up to #100 but I've only posted the top 10: 01 Avatar £93,442,625 02 Toy Story 3 £73,405,113 03 Mamma Mia £69,166,087 04 Titanic £69,025,646 05 Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone £66,096,060 06 Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part II £63,000,000 07 LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring £63,009,228 08 LOTR: The Return Of The King £60,880,923 09 LOTR: The Two Towers £57,600,094 10 Casino Royale £55,287,027 Hallows Part II apparently stands at #06 using data from Digital Spy and Wikipedia I apologise if such a thread was posted before. I just found it interesting.
  24. I'm not sure 'Breaking Dawn' will get anywhere NEAR TDH. Sorry to bring up a topic from a couple of pages back but I think the Twilight saga is being overestimated. 'Eclipse' didn't even do as well as 'New Moon' in total gross from what I recall and Harry Potter has far more appeal to a wider audience whereas I feel Twilight only addresses a certain group. I am so thrilled the last film passed a billion. It's definitely the best of the 8. I also hope it can overtake 'Pirates of The Carribean' and become the top film of the year!
  25. REALLY? P!nk is FANTASTIC. She always gets sidelined by all the others imo when it comes to critics and media attention and whatnot. Maybe I'm just being biased. I personally like all of the remaining 7 to differing levels though. She, Gaga and Beyonce had done a heck of a lot for music recently too. Nowhere near as much as the classic female stars but they have certainly been crucial in creating the platform for 21st century music alongside Britney and Amy Winehouse as well as continued contributions from Kylie, Madonna et al. Also Imma sick of my dissertation atm so I'm trying to think of some other competitions. If y'all have any ideas...
