How good it is to see you making progress. Can you believe that she has yet to attain a UK #1 hit? Not that she hasn't gotten close on three occasions with 'Trick Me', 'Milkshake' and most recently 'Bounce'. Albums wise she's never been much a seller, which is a shame because she is capable of putting out some masterpieces. I always found 'Kaleidoscope' to be her best but last year's 'Flesh Tone' blew that out of the water. It's strange because I find Kelis' music to be likeable whatever style she's invoking. She's an extremely underrated singer in the music world, barely getting a mention amidst the far more popular singers, yet her hit potential still hasn't died down after over a decade since she first released 'Caught Out There'. In addition to that angsty beauty and her three #2s I've already mentioned she's also bombarded our top 5 with 'Millionaire' (#3, 2004), 'Lil Star' (#3, 2007) and 'Acapella' (#4, 2010). Soaring up 39 places we have resident drunk/sleaze/ex-hooker/cannibal/icon Ke$ha. My opinion of Ke$ha shifts constantly. I won't deny that she makes pretty awesome pop tunes, as evident with her entire 'Animal' LP being one of the best pop records of the past year or so. The EP that followed it 'Cannibal' was pretty dire though and merely just a rehash of everything she's already done. I do admit that her style is very one track. She evidently has a trace of talent but prefers to throw her outlandish personality, autotuned goodness and risque lyrics about getting drunk, having sex etc etc out there instead. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that as it clearly captures the hearts of the youth of today (the gays ADORE her), but I just don't see it creating a long career for her. Hopefully, her next feature length album will show some sort of progress. Still say she should've released 'Kiss & Tell' or 'Blind' -_-. QR_qa3Ohwls

And the 4th highest new entry goes to... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JLhHfuZjGeo/TclVzUJcCkI/AAAAAAAAASQ/dcCmR3PQs9M/s1600/Jessie%20J.jpg 26 NE Jessie J 286 Highest Position: 2 Number of Votes: 16 Most Known Songs: Price Tag, Do It Like A Dude, Nobody's Perfect I never thought A LOT of Jessie J. Back at the end of 2010 when everybody was raving about her/dubbing her 'The Next Best Thing' etc etc, all I saw was 'Do It Like A Dude' - a dreadful record that renders itself unlistenable in its attempt to parody the music scene. I will give J her dues though, 'Price Tag' is a very catchy piece of pop that is every bit a modern classic but other than that the attraction is very thin for me. 'Nobody's Perfect' was saved only by it's brilliantly put together video and the rest of the album is lacking anything that makes me think Jessie's success is going to be long term. All the hype seems to have paid off for her though as she has three top 10 hits and a debut record that's shifted over half a million units so far. On top of that she's also had a pretty decent level of success abroad including the US. Personally, I am disgusted she's managed to get so high and I can't help thinking she's looks like Chas from Emmerdale only not as wonderful :( aSZVYZTze74 http://www.ilikemusic.com/images/article_images/full/alexandraburke_montage_620.jpg 25 18 Alexandra Burke 294 Highest Position: 3 Number of Votes: 18 Most Known Songs: Bad Boys, All Night Long, Hallelujah Next we move to Alexandra Burke. I personally think she is now my favourite out of The X Factor gang (not that that's saying a lot). I loved 'Overcome' and think it was everything Leona Lewis' album needed to be. Upbeat, catchy and still demonstrating Alexandra's vocal ability. Now I'm not about to go all 'LOON' on y'all because I'm not that sad. I mean, the whole 'rent-a-rapper' thing to get a hit is very lazy but with six top 20 singles under her belt and a double platinum album, it doesn't have seemed to have done her much harm. Alex has a huge battle on her hands to ensure album #2 goes the same way. It's been pushed back to early next year to avoid clashing with the rest of Cowell Inc come Christmas, though we should be hearing new material any day now. Burke has made the news recently due to Twittergate, in which she got into a bit of a battle with the hideous Example, siding with The Saturdays against his slurs. tPCHq63gSwk

http://www.clashmusic.com/files/imagecache/big_node_view/files/bjork_10.jpg 28 26 Bjork 255 Highest Position: 1 (Casey, JakeWild, Mattias) Number of Votes: 14 Most Known Songs: It's Oh So Quiet, Hyperballad, Army Of Me For the second year in a row Bjork finishes VERY high. Much highly than I predicted. Who'd have thought BJ secretly loves the Icelandic nutball? Of course being placed 1st by 3 different people will help your cause no end. I personally adore Bjork. I was converted after I heard her 'Post' album in my late teens and purchased all of her albums thenceforth. 'Homogenic' remains my personal favourite. Bjork embodies the true feelings of humanity in her songs - the often indecisive state we all inhabit rather than just straight out love songs (see 'Hyperballad). I am on the edge of my seat for the release of her next offering 'Biophilia' at the end of September. It's very rare that an artist can get so far into their career and still produce astonishing material ('Volta'). What always saddens me is that the hideous 'It's Oh So Quiet' is the first thing people think of when you mention Bjork. That and her penchant for beating up paparazzi in a psychotic rage of course. Whilst ISOSQ captures everything she is about perfectly, she has far better songs on offer. CONVERT TODAY. ZP5OA0SCMZA 27 15 Mariah Carey 278 Highest Position: 2 Number of Votes: 20 Most Known Songs: We Belong Together, Hero, All I Want For Christmas For You http://images.paraorkut.com/img/artists/images/m/mariah_carey-277.jpg I suffered from depression and the ilk some years ago. It must have been bad because I believed that Mariah Carey's music was emotional and soothing - when it probably only made matters worse. Alas it was for a brief time before I realised that she has a cracking personality but her voice is like a chain saw turning your bones to dust. I'm not denying the woman has talent and she has released some pretty awesome songs (Christmas, Heartbreaker, Obsessed etc), yet it's just her desire to move through an entire vocal range in about 2 minutes flat with her horrid little squeals splurged in all over the place (apparently this is known as the WHISTLE REGISTER HEH). The Americans have always lapped her up and her success comes and goes on British shores, but there is no denying that she is one of the biggest selling female artists to ever grace the planet. In America, her record of 18 number ones on the Billboard chart is still to be beaten by any solo artists and the only females to sell more albums than Carey in her homeland are Barbra Streisand and Madonna. She seemed to hit a bit of a rough patch with last studio effort 'Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel' and it's rumoured that new material could surface by the end of 2011. The singer recently gave birth to twins whom she named Monroe and Moroccan... VVVOl4mDOnI

http://www.eaboutyou.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Nelly-Furtado-1.jpg 30 14 Nelly Furtado 235 Highest Position: 8 Number of Charts: 19 Most Known Tracks: I'm Like A Bird, Promiscuous, Say It Right Next up we have Nelly Furtado who takes a rather hefty tumble this year. I gather this is due to the fact that she has released nothing of worth in about half a decade now? I'm all for multilingual fun but after you've done a 'Lopez' (I believe that should be a term in the dictionary) with the 'Loose' album, hibernating for three years and then releasing a record entirely in Spanish is only going to alienate the Americans and British who couldn't care for European music if it slapped them in the face wearing the members of A*Teens. That and a low profile greatest hits compilation which flopped at the end of last year and I really feel that her success days are over :( I'd like to be proven wrong though as 'Folklore' remains a masterpiece and 'Loose' despite being VERY inconsistent had some blinding single releases as well as a few under appreciated album gems (I always liked 'Afraid' :(). Come back Nelly! :( 5E0Rb1y6XAY http://www.smvblog.com/nonita/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/florenceandthemachines.jpg 29 33 Florence Welch 237 Highest Position: 2 Number of Charts: 18 Most Known Tracks: Dog Days Are Over, Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up), You Got The Love Going the opposite way to Nelly is the Welch. A lot of people find her banshee induced image and shriek to be very irritating but she has certainly grown on me. I feel a lot of that is due to my housemate playing her album 'Lungs' constantly but meh. Florence emerged on the scene in late 2008 with her machine and buzz single 'Kiss With A Fist' which received huge exposure on the 4Music channel. Her debut album was launched six months later, but was denied that elusive chart topper by a surge of purchases of the late Michael Jackson's material. It eventually stormed to #1 at the start of 2010 thanks to her version of The Source's 'You Got The Love' (Hasn't that song been re-released enough times as it is? :(). My personal favourite of hers is 'Dog Days Are Over' which not even the Glee Cast could ruin for me. I love how she has traces of Kate Bush about her but still manages to bring something different to the table. All eyes are now on her the forthcoming second record will compare to her 1.3 million selling debut... iWOyfLBYtuU

Biggest Selling Boyband Tracks of the 90s
Such fantastic chart runs for All 4 One and Let Loose yet they end up having their sales reduced so massively? :( I've seen 710,000 and 560,000 for each before the change. Boggles me that even in the 1990s, that such huge adjustments have to be made for sales  Both songs are FAR better than pretty much 50% of the rest of them

I'm now going to reveal the remaining 31 females one by one. WOOOOOO!! http://www.alwaysontherun.net/katetop3.jpg 31 17 Kate Bush 226 Highest Position: 2 Number of Votes: 13 Biggest Hits: Wuthering Heights, Running Up That Hill, Babooshka Kate Bush is one of the most inventive and bizarre female singers around. Blasting to critical and commericial acclaim in the late 1970s with her chart topper 'Wuthering Heights' based on the book of the same name, Bush has been a musical force for over 30 years. Despite the fact that she just seems to churn out a new album whenever she feels like it, Kate scores extremely well for the second consecutive year with the BuzzJack voters, dropping just 14 places. Her most famous hit these days is probably 'Running Up That Hill' which was covered by Placebo a few years ago. I personally prefer their version and think Kate has far better in her back catalogue. wp43OdtAAkM

VICKERS? Once her second album sees the light of the day she will be nothing more than a mere memory, left for dead on the bottom shelf of the pop hierarchy, accepting mouldy cupcakes from the Cheeky Girls. I don't need to be Sybil Trelawney to figure that out -_- The other four are fairly decent. SEB caught a one way train to Flopville many years ago, yet her loyal fans still hold her in high regard. Aside from the fact that her latest album has still to gel with me, I give her her dues for her constant refusal to give up. Oh and the divine 'Trip The Light Fantastic.' Fergie has been part of the Black Eyed Peas since their 2003 breakthrough single 'Where Is The Love?'. . Fergie's own solo career was short lived and she returned to the band in time for the unstoppable 'E.N.D' era which spawned 'I Gotta Feeling', which still refuses to budge from the public conscience. Once at the top of their game, the Peas decided the best direction to take was to molester an 80's movie classic. Tsk tsk. I am psyched for the return of Evanescence, even if the concept of an electro-album does leave me quite terrified, I am just estatic about hearing Amy Lee's passionate and haunting vocals on CD again. She's done surprisingly well considering the band haven't released an album in half a decade. I can only assume that people are rediscovering her music in time for album three which is penciled in for October. VegiZKsbqNk

http://www.topnews.in/light/files/celine-dion_1.jpg 37= 30 Pixie Lott 204 37= 54 Celine Dion 204 39 27 Janet Jackson 193 40 44 Ellie Goulding 192 41 43 M.I.A 186 I've been reading 'The Uncanny' today for my dissertation. I find that Cremey's quote and our #41 kind of fit what the hell the man's been going on about for 100 pages :( Pixie Lott tying with Celine Dion is a rather odd occurrence also, the latter has actually climbed this year and I'm not going to deny she is a true talent, but her music grates on me. The obvious hits are 'Think Twice' and 'My Heart Will Go On', both of which achieved the rare feat of selling a million copies. I personally love Celine's version of 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now' and 'That's The Way It Is' which ended an amazing 1990s for the singer on a surprisingly upbeat note. Pixie on the otherhand, has a huge test ahead of her as she prepares to release her second album this fall. Her debut 'Turn It Up' never reached the top 5 but has sold over 900,000 copies and spawned 6 top 20 singles. I find her music to be good to listen to but it lacks any sort of 'spark'. Janet Jackson is another one of the 'greats'. Overshadowed by her late brother Michael and the rest of the clan, Janet had a fairly astounding run of hits through the 80s and 90s peaking in 1997 with the mammoth 'Together Again'. Success came again in 2001 with a top 3 single and an album that was denied #1 by Ash, but since then Janet has struggled to regain her former crown - with subsequent albums bombing dreadfully. Below is her song 'Again' from 1993. If you recognise the melody that's because Iyaz raped it last year *cringe* 96hmKX3Hd7c

Anywhowoos http://nndb.com/people/274/000024202/alanis.jpg 42= 21 Natasha Bedingfield 182 42= 37 Whitney Houston 182 42= 52 Delta Goodrem 182 45 46 Beverley Knight 179 46 32 Alanis Morissette 177 Delta Goodrem was one of the first singers I ever grew attached to back in 2003. She's one of an endless slew of singers to make their name from Australian soap opera Neighbours and according to someone I met a few weeks back from good ol' Oz, she's every bit the 'sweetheart' to the people down under as Cheryl Cole (well formerly was) to us Brits. That said, her first two albums were exceptional, especially 2004's 'Mistaken Identity' which took the piano driven, romantic, sugary ballads of her record shattering debut to darker territories. Naturally, a highly publicised relationship with former Westlife douche Brian McFadden, a disappointing third album and the fourth record which has yet to materialised have sort of ruined her once beautiful appeal to me. That and the fact she's blatantly getting banged by a Jonas Brother :/ WTF Delta seriously? Natasha Bedingfield is another artist who could've had it all. Basking in her massively successful 'Unwritten' era in 2004, she had to ruin it by deserting us for the US and releasing a second album that was beyond BLAND. Many would disagree with me as I remember arguing with Aly about the quality of 'NB' at the time. She's still trying to get her name out there though as evident by new material which surfaced last year and a recent collaboration with pop-rock outfit Simple Plan. Only Australia took note of the lyrical hot mess that was 'Jet Lag' though. I implore you look it up :heehee: Whitney Houston, the drug dealer of the pop world. What can I say? She had a smashing run of hits in the 80s and 90s but since then has been a cautionary tale as to why drugs can ruin your career faster than Abi Titmus at a Bachelor party. Beverley Knight has been plodding away since the mid 90s trying to gain some level of massive success. I'm not a fan myself but she is one of the most consistant female singers out there and surely as they say - every dog has their day? Beverley's should be about 2038 at this rate. Alanis Morissette may have lost her angsty spark on subsequent albums but 'Jagged Little Pill' remains my favourite album of all time. There is not a bad track on the CD and anybody who can make a Black Eyed Peas song listenable surely deserves a trophy right? Over all the best group to crop up so far and all worthy of top 40 in my opinion. Shame on you Buzzjack! ntSBKPkk4m4

iTunes Chart: July 2011 (III)
Well as people have already said, she doesn't have the amount of material or the legacy that MJ had. Though the former may work to her advantage in this situation as others have mentioned. I'm not denying she is one of the biggest talents of recent years but I don't expect her death to come even close to matching the madness surrounding MJ's. I can only imagine another reaction like that from a massive star such as Madonna and the like. And that's not me being harsh and saying she is not as important as Michael Jackson because every human being is unique whether they're Jacko, Winehouse or in Norway. I'm merely talking from the point of view of the impact her demise will have on the charts. And BTB and 'You Know I'm No Good' should have both been top 10 hits imo but bleh.

She had a fairly successful era in 2005 with chart topper 'Goodies' and it's two follow up hits both reaching the UK top 5. She even had a small comeback in 2009 when she teamed up with Justin Timberlake on 'Love, Sex, Magic'. I found her to be just another RnB female really with nothing to make her stand out but I'm sure others (probably Jark :heehee:) will have something to say about that comment. Less we forget of course the old tired rumours that Ciara had man parts? Really, who comes up with such shit? I had to Wikipedia Janelle Monae as she is the only artist in the countdown I had never heard of before. She was apparently discovered by Big Boi of Outcast fame and good old P Diddy and has just started to gain more commericial recognition in the US with her 2010 release 'The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III)' which reached #17 and also earned the singer a Grammy nomination. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the record when I skipped through. 'Tightrope' in particular is a stand out track. Shania Twain will be forever be remembered as the woman who released 'Come On Over'. The '21' of the last couple of years of the 1990s. Spawning the mammoth hit 'That Don't Impress Me Much' with its now iconic video and 'Man I Feel Like A Woman', which played on the idea of role reversal between the sexes, taking the idea as far as to recreate Robert Palmer's 'Addicted To Love' video with women in charge. Feminist scholars got wet at the campness of it all. Anastacia plummets out of the top 20 which is pretty expected considering she hasn't been relevant for about 7 years now. I was listening to her 'Anastacia' album the other day and it really hasn't stood the test of time at all :( Anastacia is one of FIVE artists to have fallen out of last year's top 20. Finally we have Marina Diamandis of Marina & The Diamonds fame. I was underwhelmed by their debut album released last year and don't expect to see their career lasting much after that dreaded second record. ZJL4UGSbeFg

Quite a tumble from last year, despite making one of the best albums of recent times in 'Back To Black'. I'm even willing to let the monstrotity that was 'Valerie' slide. Carrie Underwood has her legion of fans on BJ despite never releasing any material here. The American Idol winner is a huge selling star in her homeland, with her album sales topping even Kelly Clarkson's. Brandy and Taylor Swift round off this load - Brandy had some great material back in 1998, but I sort of lost interest after that. I still think she's very underrated in the UK anyway. Taylor Swift. Well, I'd rather not say anything tbh. She exceeds the definition of BLAND PERSONALITY and her music just fails to captivate me. She's America's sweetheart but I find her difficult to tolerate. Kudos also to Alison Goldfrapp for the raspy, soothing and emotional gem that was 'A&E'. Goldfrapp have been releasing music for over a decade and had their main breakthrough with album 'Supernature' in 2005, which ironically was their poorest album in my opinion until last year's 'Head First'. w1evzhSast8

That would be the only good thing to come from this :( I'm very hopeful now.

When did you start following the charts and/or pop music?
1998ish I think. I just used to listen and record the songs I liked because I was only about 10 at the time. I wrote them down sometimes but not religiously. My peak was in the early 2000s and though I still check the chart every week without fail, I can count the number of chart shows I have listened to since 2005 on one hand. It's not that my obsession with music or the charts have died down, I just couldn't stomach listening to the hosts (JK & Joel put me off and since those two the hosts have just gotten more and more hideous).
-
What was the worst No.1 ever?
I could probably compile you a top 100 of the worst number ones ever faster than a list of the best. There's been some atrocious crap at the top of the charts. For now I'm going to go for Cliff Richard - Millennium Prayer but I'm sure I could find worse.

Not a massive fan of her but I respect and recognise her contribution to the music scene since the 1960s. I do feel that Michael Jackson tried to model his 'new face' after her if I'm honest. I've seen a few of her old single covers and the resemblence is uncanny. From beyond the grave Aaliyah proves that she still holds a place in our hearts. It was just a shame that her career didn't really take off until after her death. We have another tie just below the two ladies concerning Selena Gomez and Paloma Faith. Selena Gomez not really my cup of tea. A random UK top 10 hit with 'Naturally' last year and a slew of albums released since then, coupled with a high profile romance with the dreaded Justin Bieber and you wonder what the hell Disney feeds these teenagers (I'm thinking grinded up Mary Poppins ovaries but hmmm-ho). Love Paloma Faith and Little Boots. Their debut albums were both patchy in places but decent enough for the genres they represented. I wouldn't class either as amongst the best female artists of all time though (nor Gomez for that matter). I do, however, await to see if they can avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. hvXeUqlfxhY

Bat For Lashes only takes a small drop this year, whilst it's encouraging to see some of the 'Greats' take decent climbs up the chart. I discovered a rare gem by Tina Turner recently 'I Don't Want To Fight'. It was one of her last top 10 hits in the UK reaching #7 in 1993. Coincidentally, 1993 was also the year Gabrielle burst onto the chart scene, becoming the most successful female solo artist of the decade and still remaining relevant until well into the new millennium. She's best known for hits such as 'Dreams', 'Rise' and 'Out Of Reach', the former two being UK chart toppers and the latter becoming a radio staple due to its inclusion on the 'Bridget Jones' Diary' soundtrack in 2001. Lastly, we have another new entry from Nerina Pallot. A fantastic, underrated talent who deserves so much more success. Despite a VERY brief commercial break through in 2006, Nerina has never won the hearts of the public, despite performing very modestly on this countdown. zUJDXZoJEAw

BuzzJack's Female Artist Smackdown II [Results]

I can't abide her at all. Miley Cyrus takes a massive drop this year, in fact the second largest after Ms Cole. Despite finally making an album that was decent, it seems interest in the former Disney popstrel has been rather non existent as of late. Jordin Sparks' third album is expected sometime later this year, and other than Kelly Clarkson, she is the only American Idol winner to make any sort of impact on the UK charts. Her last album failed dramatically despite two long running top 20 hits though. Shirley Manson is rumoured to be working on new material with Garbage, which I personally CAN'T wait for as even their last studio album 'Bleed Like Me' was divine. Needless to say, Garbage are one of my favourite bands ever, so it's great to see 5 other people sharing their Shirley love with me. Finally, we come onto Barbara Streisand. I'm afraid I'm only familiar with her 1980 chart topper 'Woman In Love' (which was massacred by Liz McLarnon in 2006). Although, good old Barb is a regular mention in hit TV series Glee, I'd like to think her sudden entry into the countdown is propelled by Duck Sauce's hit named after the singer. Yus. That seems most plausible. z-CHEnJ7gnc
