Having Christian parents, Perry first tried her hand at Gospel music which failed to set the charts alight. It was the 2008 worldwide smash I Kissed A Girl with its tongue in cheek, homosexual innuendos that propelled her to global fame. Religious and gay activists were outraged whilst I just laughed. It was a cracking song that was clearly a bit of fun. Gimmicky it was and it certainly got her noticed but how many other artists are guilty of the same thing? Success followed with the equally huge Hot N Cold whilst collabarations with 3Oh!3 and Timbaland have made Perry one of the hottest stars on the planet. She is currently in the middle of the campaign for second release Teenage Dream which as well as featuring the gorgeous title track is home to one of 2010's most successful singles: California Gurls featuring resident p**** in waiting Snoop Dogg. OOTB only had the 4 great singles and Self Inflicted! Most of it sounded like it was written a good 5 years before it's time and the major hits were added on at the end to lure people into thinking it was 'current'.

Bjork may not be a massive success but she's definitely contributed to shaping the face of music and is one of the most diverse and outrageous female artists out there.
