If you get a chance Medicated, update this tonight. There's quite a shocker at #88 :)

I've said for years that you really have to look at the entire chart, or at least the top 50. In actuality, Americans like a far greater variety of genres than what is represented at the top of the Hot 100. Since airplay plays a larger role in the chart, only the most-played songs can reach the top ten. And urban radio is the most popular format. There was a period of time up until earlier this year when great digital sales could send a single up there, but the charts have been reconfigured to emphasize airplay once again. I guess the reason is to prevent what happened this week - a bunch of Britney singles charting all over the place without official radio releases. Actually, incidentally I do like quite a few of them, Timbaland, Alisha Keys, Kanye...
  3. Got the import of Bleeding Love (Leona). I know they'll release it here next year but I simply couldn't wait, it's sooooo good!!
  4. I looooove this new trend! To be honest, they're all victims of Karl Rove's master plan to get the evangelicals in bed. It worked for the 2004 election but has proven to be disastrous for the 2006 and upcoming 2008 elections. When you force all republicans to ally with religious nut cases, you lose the entire center. Democrats are absolutely sure to keep the Congress and take over the presidency in a year. Of course, GWB's cataclysmic failures haven't helped, either.
  5. Just got Blackout on iTunes... :D those sales do count to Billboard, right?
  6. I've been trying to understand this term for years :D I think it is comparable to American "trailer trash" or "white trash" but as far as I can tell, "chavs" are a strictly British phenomenon... Hope this doesn't offend any Brits, and I post it mostly in jest, but this link might provide a useful visual: http://www.jacatu.de/wbb2/t7850-swedish-ve...nightclubs.html
  7. So far in October... iTunes singles Alicia Keys - No One Britney - Gimme More Jordin Sparks - Tattoo Natasha Bedingfield - Love Like This Timbaland - Apologize iTunes albums Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight import singles Sugababes - About You Now (when will this fabulous song be on iTunes USA????)
  8. SASH!!! :D One of those artists that really brings me back... I bought the Trilenium CD at Heathrow in July 2000 and I was in heaven for the entire 9 hour flight home! Loved Ecuador, La Primavera, With My Own Eyes, Adelante, Stay, Just Around the Hill, Colour the World. But my absolute FAVORITE and still one of my fav songs ever: DoabARmivos Together Again Absolutely life-changingly good. The singer Blå Øjne is actually very good and released a great album of dance songs back in 2000-ish...
  9. I might be wrong, but I could see this being her first album to not debut at #1.
  10. Just as the prediction rose from 69 to 77 million from 2005 to 2007 (give me a break!), the forecasts will always change with trends. 80 years ago in the US, everyone was paranoid that Italian would be the #1 spoken language by 1960, and had immigration levels from Italy sustained 1920 levels, eventually this would have come true. It may sound crazy to think maybe the UK won't be desirable in 50 years but things can change rapidly. How many Irish still emigrate to the UK or the US? And anyway, haven't the number of Polish immigrants to the UK, for instance, decreased with the rapid growth of the Polish economy?
  11. 05 (10). GYM CLASS HEROES - Clothes Off!! PS: After all this hate, I had to check out that Che'nelle song and I sort of like it :P
  12. Don't write it off yet... the song's airplay has doubled in the past week alone. Hopefully this will help it on iTunes. Also, Natasha has done little to no promotion. And we know she worked her ass off for a whole year to earn the success of the first album in the US...

The ONLY difference is that the vocals on the Kish Mauve version sound better. Oh kylie :( PS thanks for posting!

By the way, I don't think they should legalize ALL drugs. But marijuana certainly... and others perhaps... they would have to be investigated

Totally agree... look at the Netherlands (specifically Amsterdam). They've legalized prostitution in a very limited area with very strict measures to control it. And that has helped tremendously to lower crime, reduce human trafficking, and lower STD rates. As we all know, they've legalized marijana but kept control over its sale and this has been a widely successful campaign as well. Think of it, if they legalized drugs, they could keep better control over their distribution and they'll be able to tax the $h!t out of it like they do cigarettes and liquor! How can they lose??

Don't mean to sound rude but all this anecdotal stuff ("Video games didn't make ME violent") is pretty useless. Study after study by numerous scientists, psychologists and universities have proven that violent video games do increase aggressive thoughts and behaviors in people of all ages, especially children. I mean this was covered in my Psych 101 class! A simple Google search reveals this is the opinion of the American Psychological Assocation, the American Medical Assocation, University of Minnesota, University of Chicago... A better discussion is what should be done to prevent it... a better ratings system, more vigilant parents, etc. All of us here were likely well-raised by parents or guardians who countered our appetite for violent video games with discipline :)

Expect the new Natasha song to debut on the Hot 100 in a week - it's rising the iTunes and airplay charts. It's also a fantastic song!

It's interesting... when I was a kid, people were utterly scandalized by Mortal Kombat because it showed blood splattering in every direction when you hit someone. But compared to the video games these days, that seems like nothing. I always thought if a video game were to make someone violent, it would be GoldenEye. Running around with all manner of weapon slaughtering people. And it was so damn fun!!

I'm surprised... I figured I just "didn't get" the appeal of the single. But now that he's selling albums, I am totally baffled...
  20. You bring up some very interesting points, and you are probably correct that the image the "gay community" sometimes presents isn't always helpful. But I do implore you to look beyond what you see at pride parades and drag balls. The gay community isn't just what you see on TV. They are very much engaged in civic affairs - representing huge populations at political rallies and protests. Yes, equal opportunity (gay marriage, etc.) but also at anti Iraq War demonstrations, feminist rights, pro-choice rallies, etc. in the US. The gay community has also been a major force in AIDS-related health care charity efforts as well as other healthcare related issues. In many places in the world, the united gay community isn't just fighting for the right to exist (like in Iraq) but for the right of all freedom and tolerance. There, it isn't simply that they are persecuted against for being gay, but that anyone is persecuted against for being anything other than what is expected. Please don't be frightened by the "Gay community," because it really isn't all Cher and Kylie... after all, the Madonna campaign is very powerful :D And to your other point... I know I've told this story before but my boyfriend was born in Iran and came here at an early age. He can't even IMAGINE the thought of growing up there, repressed, discriminated against, etc... he's said again and again that his life is immeasurably better for having moved to the US. And people in the West wonder why there's such a huge migration?? Would anyone here so critical of the UK/US/etc ever... EVER move to Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan??
  21. Why complain when Fresh always posts the charts a day before Billboard? Besides, you'll only need the top 3 to please all the britters fans!
  22. The original is Utah Saints - Something Good... it samples Kate Bush

While it's VERY much inspired by Imogen Heap (borderline ripoff), I think it's absolutely irresistible.
  24. Yeah her sitcom only lasted like another season and a half... though mostly because the producers dropped everything funny and enjoyable about the characters and dialogue and it became a show fixated on Ellen, the lesbian. She's not Rosie O'Donnell - self-riteous and loudmouth about her sexuality. So the format didn't really work. Her greatest triumph has been achieving the status of popular comedian, talk-show host and TV personality... not BECAUSE she's a lesbian or DESPITE the fact she's a lesbian... but just because she's great!
  25. Yes and the Eastern Orthodox Christians in Moscow too... Oh to be gay and have all the world's major religions united in opposition to your very existence... wouldn't change it for the world!
