DANCE RECORD OF THE YEAR 2006
I like The Source but I voted for Walking Away. And I'd like to make sure everyone realizes that 99% of the production credit belongs to DJ Tocadisco who remixed The Egg's Walking Away. Whoever added the pre-existing Guetta lyrics was clever but taking Tocadisco's name off the label was criminal. I adore David Guetta but he doesn't deserve credit for this amazing song, the dance record of 2006!!

The Worst Albums Of All Time
There have been so many godawful albums... I voted for the frog because the production is terrible, the songs are uninspired covers, the album is short, the "artist" is a fictional animation, and the music is just HORRIBLE. I actually feel bad for Milli Vanilli because there are MANY current popular artists who regularly pull the exact same stunt and no one seems to care. They (and Ashley Simpson) get caught miming but anyone with a half a brain recognizes it at many major concerts, awards shows, sports events, and other performances. What is the difference between a skipping track at a Milli Vanilli concert and a Spice Girls performance at the Brits where the soundtrack is about 1 second ahead of the lipsynching? Give me a break.

Switch-on costs Scottish councils £3m
Absolutely, the office buildings here remain totally lit all night long and for what?? Even worse, in the skyscrapers, sometimes whole blocks of floors leave the lights on all night which means it isn't carelessness by employees but some kind of company policy. You brits are far better at conservation but we all have a lot to learn from mainland Europe. French hallways and bathrooms remain pitch black and the lights are on 30 second timers. Germans go to public waste-baskets and sort out their trash piece by piece to ensure its all in the proper recycle bin. It's remarkable and admirable.

People still wearing fur!!! Record numbers of Britons are
The thread a few weeks ago about how few Britons left actually wear fur... it surprised me because if you read the fashion mags, fur is really coming back. I've been shopping for a jacket lately and they ALL have fake fur linings. How does everyone feel about that? I sort of take issue because of what it represents, but then again, if everyone with a real fur exchanged it for synthetic...

Switch-on costs Scottish councils £3m
Meh, when you put it that way it seems outlandish. But just looking at sum totals isn't always the best way to look at issues... for instance, if you added up the amount people waste throwing away excess holiday food you'd probably find it's like a million turkeys and 10 million pounds of potatoes or something. So are you going to stop people from buying food? Anyway I usually take the conservationist side but if the lights are lovely, don't shut them all off just because of one single figure. Turn some of them off, or limit their hours of order. Or better yet, we can go after the real issues: the amount individuals waste with lights in unoccupied rooms, idling vehicles, computers, unnecesary electric devices, inefficient factories and power plants. Add up sums (monetary and kilowatt) wasted in those situations and I'm sure the figures will make £3.3 mill look like pocket change.

prince
I think he had some great songs in the 80's, pre and post Purple Rain. But ever since the name change and the weird "Gold" album mid-90's, I haven't enjoyed his music very much. What truly baffles me is his image... to whom did he appeal in the 80's? He was just so ostentatiously SEXUAL but not particularly attractive... And also to add, dunno of Chappelle's Show is popular in the UK (it's a variety show) but if not, you have GOT to see Chappelle do Prince. It's HYSTERICAL... OJ Simpson Book
O.J. Simpson Book, TV Special Canceled By DAVID BAUDER Published November 20, 2006, 2:54 PM CST NEW YORK -- After a firestorm of criticism, News. Corp. said Monday that it has canceled the O.J. Simpson book and television special "If I Did It." "I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project," said Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairman. "We are sorry for any pain that his has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson." A dozen Fox affiliates had already said they would not air the two-part sweeps month special, planned for next week before the Nov. 30 publication of the book by ReganBooks. The publishing house is a HarperCollins imprint owned -- like the Fox network -- by News Corp. In the projects, Simpson speaks in hypothetical terms about how he would have committed the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Goldman. Relatives of the victims have lashed out at the now scuttled publication and broadcast plans. "He destroyed my son and took from my family Ron's future and life. And for that I'll hate him always and find him despicable," Fred Goldman told ABC last week. The industry trade publication Broadcasting & Cable editorialized against the show Monday, saying "Fox should cancel this evil sweeps stunt." One of the nation's largest superstore chains, Borders Group Inc., said last week it would donate any profits on the book to charity. Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of murder in a case that became its own television drama. The former football star and announcer was later found liable for the deaths in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the Goldman family. Judith Regan, publisher of "If I Did It," said she considered the book to be Simpson's confession. The television special was to air on two of the final three nights of the November sweeps, when ratings are watched closely to set local advertising rates. It has been a particularly tough fall for Fox, which has seen none of its new shows catch on and is waiting for the January bows of "American Idol" and "24." CASINO ROYALE
Speaking of the Ford deal... I haven't seen the film yet (probably will this weekend), but some friends who saw it claimed the product placement was overt and obnoxious. They said Bond drives a Ford and an Aston, the villains drive Jags while Fods and Volvos swerve off the road during their chases. They said the camera constantly cuts to unnecessary closeups of Sony Vaio computers and Sony Erikson mobile phones. And does Bond really ask for Smirnoff vodka?? That all sounds like a bit too much.

Holland bans face veils/burqas
Wait wait wait, look at this gem from the AP version of the story... ''From a security standpoint, people should always be recognizable and from the standpoint of integration, we think people should be able to communicate with one another,'' Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk told national broadcaster NOS. She said the ban also would apply to headgear like ski masks and full-faced helmets. Yeah... I'm sure they're gonna ban ski masks and helmets. And the best part: Tonca estimated that as few as 30 women in the Netherlands wear a burqa and said the proposed law could be unconstitutional if it is interpreted as targeting Muslims. German pastor suicides to protest against Islam in Europe
I think the media is partly to blame. For instance, while certainly a great deal of Muslims were offended by the Mohammed cartoon controversy, the vast, vast majority of them just sighed and went back to their daily lives. All it takes is a crowd of a few hundred storming the Danish embassy (or protesting in London with anti-British signs) to get the media’s attention. Then the average person tunes into the news and is led to believe the entire Muslim world is engaging in some kind of violent, hate-filled rampage. Classic disproportionate representation on the evening news, it happens EVERY night.

re: Skizzo's Retro Tunes
Karaja - She Moves only came out like a couple years ago, right? It's catchy (like all of them) but just another Belgian trance/pop Ian Van Dahl ripoff really... thank god that era of dance is pretty much over.

Billboard Charts
The Hot 100 has been really stale the last couple months or so. Maneater sold pretty well but it never got to the airplay top 10. It would have gone top 5 with strictly sales. Unfortunately, Billboard still won't get airplay out of there...

Frank's Vinyl Museum
http://franklarosa.com/vinyl/default.jsp I came upon this site late one night a couple years ago and I remember I stayed up til 5am laughing hysterically listening to every single record. You cannot BELIEVE what this guy has found. Some highlights... "Beatle Barkers" - an album of beatles songs covered by barking dogs "Ethel Merman Disco Album" - it's just obscene, you must hear it "Mrs Miller's Greatest Hits" - perhaps the most disturbing album ever recorded Also ABBA is Spanish, Goldie Hawn's album, and more moog vinyls than you can imagine. Enjoy!

Michael Jackson trial mother admits fraud
Right. He may very well be a pervert and a paedophile. But the 2005 case against him was ABSURD. This woman had her kids take acting classes before their PREVIOUS frivolous lawsuit. A pathetic, disgusting woman. Michael Jackson is gay. To deal with this, he has suspended himself in the psychological state of a child. His father is CRAZY and probably responsible for each and every one of his numerous mental diseases.
