  1. They'll probably build a bunch of disgusting, cheap concrete highrises and stuff everyone in there. Governments never learn lessons...
  2. The performances were fine but I didn't like the story... I'm supposed to feel sorry for a bunch of snotty, rich, gorgeous kids who suddenly realize ****ing isn't making them happy and they want to be loved?? And that random, unnecessary suicide scene dropped in the middle - awful! I may be overexaggerating but I think bull$h!t like that is harmful. People commit suicide because they have mental disorders, people don't commit suicide because they're in love with the cute guy down the hall but he's dating another girl. And how many dormitory bathrooms have bathtubs anyway!?? -_-

The song was originally supposed to be a duet (and originally supposed to be a Meat Loaf song on Bat 2) but I think Marion Raven was a poor choice for the song. Celine's vocals better fit the power and drama. I prefer Celine's version.
  4. Wow, reading that really upset me, I can hardly believe it. I would be completely outraged. I really thought Latin America was one of the last bastions of resistance to that kind of commercialized, Americanized c**p. Fake snow displays in São Paulo?? Who is perpetrating this?

I'll agree with Shawshank. It think it's a great film and maybe even one of the best of the 90's but many, especially young, film critics laud it as the best film ever made. I think it's #1 on the IMDB top 250. That's a bit excessive. I definitely prefer The Green Mile because it makes a real political statement in showing the disgusting inhumanity of capital punishment.
  6. Thanks but you're crazy! Your additions to the forum are by far the most articulate, substantial and well-researched. And you and tigerboy have both seen wayyyy more films than me. I just see a film every once in a while, find it personally offensive and apalling, and come here to rant about it. :) Funny you should mention "Rules of Attraction" ..... oh how I loathe that film

Anyway it's well worth £2. It gets pretty silly at the end but that's really when I begin to enjoy it. Just don't take it too seriously and you'll enjoy too.

Yeah I really don't like this... Shannon's voice sounds totally manipulated and Natalie, as much as I like her, sounds uncomfortable, out of tune, and totally out of place. Thanks for the link tho!

Not to be the superficial one but DAMN Jojo has got some hips on her! Is it okay for me to say that's hot?? Only a couple years before she learns to be self-concious and turns into a disgusting little twig... :(
  10. Yes.... perhaps. This discussion could get kind of silly because I'm absolutely no expert and the "chav" concept has been challenging for me to understand  However, the comments on here and other things I've heard seem to indicate chavs in Britain are a much more... distinct, destructive group. There aren't a great deal of "wiggers" here in the same way. There are trashy people all over the US but they really run the gamut as far as urban, rural, black, white, etc.
  11. From what I gather, chavs are distinctly a British trend, though they are heavily influenced by certain American celebrities. We have plenty of troublemaking youths in this country but very few "chavs." Hell, Burberry is still considered upscale here!! They're desperately investing and expanding in America since they've been ruined bak home. But recently I saw an awful, white 15 year old at a department store buying $300 sunglasses the other day. Sweatpants, jewelry and a Burberry cap. These kinds of social trends usually start in the UK and I'm terrified of a future chav onslaught here!!

I like it when they're held in cities with a lower international profile - think of the wonders the Olympics did for places like Sydney, Seoul, Atlanta, Lillehammer, Sarajevo, etc. The Beijing Olympics will be the massive coming out party for the Chinese economy and society. It will establish Beijing as one of the world's great cities and China as a spectacular international power. London doesn't really need the Olympics, in my opinion. It is already perhaps the world's most recognized city. London's greatest success in the past 2 decades has been its transformation to a powerful financial center but the Olympics won't really show that. Anyway it was a poor year for nominees (London, Paris, New York, Madrid, Moscow). I'd have loved it if the Olympics went to Manchester or Birmingham or Glasgow or something.
  13. Australia, Canada, AND the US all have more immigrants than the UK... though current projections show the UK will surpass the first two soon (even while immigration in those countries rises dramatically too).
  14. Other covers or remixes I've thought were c**p because they lacked originality and such. But concerning Heart of Glass, as Grim said, there really is NO REASON. It couldn't be catchier, it couldn't be dancier, it couldn't be improved upon in any way from its original form. What the HELL are they thinking??

The media circus surrounding this makes me SICK. Now tomorrow on the train and at the office I'll have to listen to a bunch of dumbasses saying "Well, yeah, he was a terrible man. I guess justice has been served." WHAT THE **** DO YOU KNOW? And why the **** pretend like you give a ****? All of this just proves Bush won despite his idiotic failure. Saddam is the enemy because he has WMD and is a threat to the world. oh, wait, no, Saddam is the enemy because he was a cruel dictator over the poor, noble Iraqis. "Operation Iraqi Freedom" and other such bull$h!t. Meanwhile Iraqis shrug and go on trying to SURVIVE in the WARZONE that Iraq has become and western papers have the nerve to headline Saddam's verdict in the largest possible print??? And worse, people here actually PRETEND like they GIVE A $h!t??? Sorry if this rambling makes no sense but I'm just livid right now.
  16. Okay I loved Everytime We Touch as much as everyone else - but the whole Cascada album is a joke. EVERY SINGLE SONG has the same production. Look it up on iTunes or somewhere you can listen to clips one after another. It's pretty pathetic :P

Fantastic #1!! My fav is "Girl Boy Sing" but that #1 would definitely be an anti-climactic end to your chart!

They thought they could put on an Olympics for £2.375 billion?! Did anyone actually believe that? Athens cost THREE TIMES THAT.
  19. By the way, when the distributor made the very public decision to "scale back" North American release and all that - it was just to create even more hype. Most of the major cineplexes in my city sold out of every Borat showing this entire weekend by Friday afternoon (people buy advance online). It's going to be a monster at the NA box office.
  20. I saw it yesterday. It was just as uproariously lewd and bizarre as promised. But I must say I was a bit dissapointed because I think the funniest parts are all in the trailer. Also there was a LOT of hype - the papers were giving it four stars and calling it the Monty Python and the Holy Grail of this generation. I think it got pretty slow near the halfway mark and toward the end. Don't get me wrong, I laughed a lot but I wouldn't say it lived up to the hype (not that this is any fault of Cohen's)

Sorry sorry, I thought people who might not check the Gwen Stefani forum everyday might be interested!! Anyway now they know to look :P
  22. The radio/video version lacks the absolutely diabolical climax which is the most incredible part of the song! BOO
  23. Sandi Thom has potential - I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker is already an underground download hit and has sold several thousand downloads on iTunes... basically from American tourists returning from summer vacations in the UK.
