  1. It has skyrocketed to #2 on Canada's iTunes chart. This almost guarantees success in the US -- it just takes more time here.
  2. Yeah, it's just because of Skrillex, who is churning out, what, 10 mixes a week these days? I could not be more over him. I do think Promises stands a chance to be a proper hit on its own, but the trick is promoting it in the US. Pop radio is too busy playing Katy Perry's 14th consecutive single from her hit 2007 album four times per hour so the best we can hope for is probably a car commercial. :(
  3. And I don't see any single ever beating Candle in the Wind 1997. 11 million is just unreal.
  4. Yeah, I don't know what to make of acts like Queen and The Verve in this list -- either it's a testament to how huge those songs are many years later, or it shows how comparatively few UK acts have had big selling hits in the digital era. Probably a bit of both.
  5. Interesting to see Avicii's Levels (sampled by Flo Rida in Good Feeling) at #33...
  6. Sorry but the worst of all these credits is Lauren Bennett. She literally sings 11 words which are then played back several times over the course of 30 seconds. THAT'S IT.
  7. Just got the album tonight and I LOVE it. These guys are incredible. After the Silence is my favorite -- just breathtaking!
  8. I have not heard and hopefully will never hear that Toby Keith song, but Solo is a brand of plastic disposable cups in which beer is frequently served at parties and cheap dive bars (pubs)
  9. Cool!! @ #43 Kaskade (feat. Neon Trees) - Lessons in Love
  10. You're right, Rihanna will be #2 on the Hot 100 tomorrow behind Adele (her fifth week at the top). She's more or less guaranteed #1 next week though... Source: http://www.billboard.com/news/adele-no-1-o...005440942.story Only a year ago Calvin Harris described himself as "a guy from UK not many people have heard of" and soon he'll share a US #1...
  11. Uhh, the latest news I can find is "Pop star-turned-Tv personality Paula Abdul shamed Michael Bolton for his poor babysitting skills on US Tv on Monday night." Nice try, though. That's a shame.
  12. I'm no expert in pre-2009 Taio Cruz -- except that the Dirty Dog Urban remix of I Can Be was one of my favorite songs of 2008 -- but I did like Break Your Heart and to a lesser degree Dynamite. Taio's fatal flaw is lyrics, and if the lyrics on BYH and Dynamite were silly, they are Pulitzer-worthy compared to Hungover. What an utterly embarrassing effort. And lame production. One of the worst singles of the year...
  13. Dear God that new Taio Cruz song is APPALLING. What the hell were he and the 500 others involved in releasing that song thinking??
  14. That's exactly what I thought...
  15. I like the idea of an international store but I honestly don't see it coming anytime soon. Acts have different record companies distributing the music in different countries.... or perhaps an act has the same record company but it chooses a different release strategy in each country. As far as I know, the fault of release delays on the UK iTunes lies squarely with the record companies. It's a calculated risk... potentially forfeiting sales now to release the song at the peak of popularity to facilitate a high chart debut. In the UK more than any other country I know of, the weekly chart is a huge way to promote a song because the charts are very popular with the public. The strategy was taken a few times in the US in the last few years (I wanna say 'Right Round' was delayed) but today record companies are more likely to rush release (e.g. Lady Gaga's singles). Having said that, I'm very skeptical that it would actually work (i.e., We Found Love will sell better overall when released in November than if it were released now)... but one example could be Gaga's latest album. Rushed single releases may have meant lower charting in the UK, which may have lowered expectations/excitement/promotion/buzz, potentially lowering sales. Just a thought.
  16. If you don't want to count R&B ballads (Take a Bow, before that Bleeding Love, before that No One, before that Big Girls Don't Cry), you need to go back to Hey There Delilah in June 2007.
  17. Something very satisfying about Someone Like You getting to no. 1 this week. Weeks and weeks of slow climb due entirely to word-of-mouth (no promotion). A piano-driven ballad of a style pop radio almost never touches. And then one performance on a Sunday night that catapults the song to no. 1. I don't know if Adele is the biggest British chart success since the Beatles... remember George Michael racked up SIX no. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 in a span of 6 years (plus 2 earlier with Wham)... but she's certainly up there. She will likely finish 2011 with the top selling album and single, and another top 5 selling single. Incredible.
  18. Someone Like You for number one in... three, two, one...

The show that got me through high school... :D
  20. INCREDIBLE. I forgot how much I love dark house -- where are Murk/Oscar G & Ralph Falcon these days??
  21. Wow -- Skrillex is bringing dubstep to the mainstream! Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites is #132 and his BRILLIANT remix of Benny Benassi's Cinema is #147.
  22. I'm sure there is a whole history, but to put it simply, Latin America is called 'Latin' because it's where people speak Spanish and Portuguese, which are romance languages derived from Latin. :)
  23. Ok, nevermind... it is appearing at #79 now. I SWEAR it was in the lower 30's earlier...
  24. Anyone know why Someone Like You has shot up to #33? It doesn't appear to be getting any significant airplay.
  25. Both singular and plural treatments of "none" are acceptable, so "none has" and "none have" are both grammatically correct. I agree that "none has" sounds a bit weird, but if you consider none to be the same as "not one" then it makes sense :)
