  1. So... is Party Rock Anthem the first dance song to top the Hot 100 since 1991? I know it's difficult to determine what constitutes a dance song, particularly because Eurodance influences pop so much (Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, even Madonna's Music from 2000). But LMFAO is generally considered a dance act, right? I just went back through the list of #1s and couldn't find any artist since C&C Music Factory in 1991 that I would consider a dance act. Then again I didn't look that closely  Discuss.
  2. Party Rock Anthem #1 on the Hot 100 tomorrow.
  3. I like Minaj, but I'm shocked to learn Trina never got a top 5. She is sublime. MFNCdBxfeZs "Pussy power, we in control" "Nipples hard in designer bras" "f*** all y'all bitches. Get a life. You got too much times on ya hand. I want y'all bitches to get a job." "f*** da dime, I'm a silver dolla. Holla." So many timeless lines
  4. Well obviously the Party Rock Anthem wiki page is full of $h!t -- claiming it is #1 on the Hot 100.
  5. !!!!!!!!!!! Glad I'm not the only one who realizes Britney is not still on top of the world (like GaGa now) but she's still OURS.

Remember Belgium's DOMINANCE from 2000 - 2004? I don't care if Ian Van Dahl, Dee Dee, Lasgo, Sylver, Kate Ryan, DHT and Milk Inc. all sounded the same... I WORSHIPPED them all. PS: Sylver's Turn the Tide is some kind of high point in popular music.

"I think that you know I'm your mama. I think that you know, want you to show." ??? OH MY GOD WHAT
  8. GaGa is pretty lucky Amazon was willing to take a $7.11 loss on every $.99 copy of Born This Way they sold (Interscope was paid $8.10 per album) to market its MP3 service because that obviously helped push her over 1 million. Still, Billboard is right to include those sales in the Billboard 200 because there's no way of knowing how many people only bought the album because it was less than a dollar, and how many would have paid full price at another retailer anyway if the Amazon deal hadn't existed.
  9. The commercial is great. sDPJ-o1leAw
  10. I ADORE Mulholland Drive because it's so confusing. The first time I watched it was such an emotional experience -- I remember being terrified, deeply sad and laughing hysterically at different parts. I watched it two more times over the next two days to try to figure it out. Of course I eventually realized it's not a matter of "getting it" but rather drawing one's own conclusions, which is what is great about Lynch's films and what is so missing from 99% of Hollywood films. It's shocking that Naomi Watts wasn't nominated for Best Actress. But perhaps its Rebekah Del Rio who really steals the show: AIpkMg9sh6Q
  11. Yeah the UK chart is definitely still better, better variety and is more accommodating to new acts and genres. Although I will point out that if you replaced dance with country, the UK chart would probably look pretty similar to the Hot 100. Lately, both charts are sorely lacking rock and R&B acts...
  12. THIS. It's not 2003 anymore!

Yes. This chart is pretty much DEFINITIVE of ages 18-19 for me. I swear I can SMELL the halls of my high school browsing back through this list!! The funny thing is I think the first time I heard this song was on the Waltzer at the Brighton Pier!!

The celebrations made me cringe. This is supposed to be the difference between "us" and "them" -- that we don't celebrate violence. But as a resident of the District of Columbia (about 8 blocks from the White House), I can assure you that 90% of the people down there celebrating were university students, half of whom were likely drunk.
  15. How come no one told me how EXUBERANT and wonderful the video is? This is without a doubt the best music video I've seen in years. I am totally serious -- it is why music videos were invented. Outstanding.
  16. The biggest mystery to me now is why Party Rock Anthem hasn't exploded like everywhere else in the world; it has remained languishing in the outer 40s and 30s for weeks...
  17. I was drunk most of 2004, but I remember most of these. I voted D12 because it's UTTERLY UNLISTENABLE and barely even music. Baby Cakes, while terrible, is soooo much fun to hate.

Some good input thus far, but one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is timing. You don't want to push a new album very shortly after you finish promoting the first because people get burned out. But at the same time, waiting too long in between albums is equally risky. The perfect amount of time isn't always the same for each artist...

Now she's starring in her own parodies. These are actually pretty funny: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/10d4ba537...h-rebecca-black http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/6c4e44a1a...w-rebecca-black http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/a085babc8...s-greatest-hits
  20. Katy Perry's ET is no. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 this week.

Apparently she's donating all proceeds from the single to Japan earthquake relief and her school.
  22. DEAR GOD, Rebecca Black is going to chart on the Hot 100.
  23. I don't know anyone who even watches that show. I'm sure you're right though. Sigh, for those of us TOTALLY OVER BEPs right now, it's annoying. I suppose this album's campaign is only 5 months old now so we can expect more singles into the summer.

Old enough?? YES! I was 11, never EVER turned the radio off and belonged to one of those music clubs ("buy 12 CDs for the price of 1!") so I must have owned half the songs on this chart! Actually, I count 11/20 that I owned. Those were the days... this is why the retro chart threads are so great. Some classics here, particularly Wonderwall, Be My Lover, Missing and Ironic. One of Us was immensely popular but always kind of irritated me.
  25. With HDD reporting final sales, 21 sold 168,132 copies this week, still #1 by a mile.
