Predict: Andy Abraham - Even If
That's a shame the album isn't on iTunes yet. I was wondering why Andy hadn't charted yet. I'm predicting #16-#20. It's likely to debut lower and then climb to its peak in the week after the contest.

114k. Tesco (or Asda? I forget which) are selling it for £9 and giving either "Immaculate Collection," "Ray Of Light," "Music" or "Confessions" free with every copy! How good an offer is that! After seeing the prices on the high street for Sam Sparro, I now predict him at #2 ahead of Portishead. £6.97 in Woolworths, £7.95 in HMV. Portishead may take an early lead, but I see Sparro pulling ahead by the week's end. Should be an interesting week... makes a difference from last week anyway!

The very last mrib/msn charts w/k ending 25/04
For the first half of the show though, he was saying stuff like "Rick was at #1 when all these songs were beneath him..." and "How did it feel, Rick, whenever you had a single that didn't make it to #1?" - he only ever had ONE #1!!! He was definitely playing a non-official chart cos he announced and played #20 as Aswad's "Don't Turn Around" (which was at #22, on its way to #5 the next week) and #19 as Alexander O'Neal/Cherelle's "Never Knew Love Like This" (which was actually on its way down from #31 to #37 that week from a peak of #26). And before anyone suggests it, they certainly weren't played as "bubbling under" tracks. A lot of the tracks between #12 and #18 were also in the incorrect order, albeit slightly. I then had to switch off at the halfway point by which time Kid was talking about Rick's #2 single that week rather than the #1.

The very last mrib/msn charts w/k ending 25/04
From The Bottom Of The Top is usually an entertaining listen, but sometimes the research is poor, the guests don't participate enough and the records are often played in the wrong order, introduced or back-announced incorrectly or not at all! A couple of weeks ago, the "see you next week - thanks to my guest etc" was played in the middle of the show! Every week, they've adhered to the Guinness charts apart from a couple of weeks ago. The 1988 chart seemed to be completely made up! (I'm sure it wasn't even the Network Chart...!) Rick Astley was the guest. At the beginning, Kid Jensen announced "Together Forever" as a #1 (which raised my eyebrows initially) but halfway through the show he conceded it was actually a #2. For a pre-recorded programme this kind of mess is inexcusable! But at least they feature the whole Top 20 on these shows.

Yep, I'm aware of all that too! I get really frustrate dwith the stuff that's wrong and missed out etc., but it's the highlight of my radio week! I don't get a lot of chances to listen to the radio, but the missus and kids now appreciate that Sunday afternoons mean Pick Of The Pops followed by the Top 40, so it's nice to wallow in a bit of nostalgia for a couple of hours once a week. I just enjoy the "counting down the chart" factor whilst driving around the countryside with the family! (Sad, I know!) Does anyone else listen to From The Bottom To The Top on Gold? By the way, all the 60s charts I've heard on POTP (and I've only missed one show since the new series started in 2005) have matched my Guinness Top 40 Charts book...

"No need to listen to Dale Winton`s pretty naff Radio 2 show, what!!!!!!" How roooood!! Dale's show is great! He's doing 1992 this week too... Is it a coincidence you've done the same year as him for two weeks in a row, or are you bowing down to the great Mr Winton by way of a tribute? :P

The last time the top 40 had 40 different artists!
Looking at the mids now - now with 3 new entries and 1 re-entry!! - we could be looking at a Top 40 with 40 different artists, if we exclude "featuring Kanye West," "featuring Cheryl Cole" etc.

The last time the top 40 had 40 different artists!
It would be nice to have a chart with a decent amount of new entries in again! *still reeling from this week's mids*

mrib/msn charts w/k ending 18/04
Yep, The Chart Show definitely never had The Bangles at #1 - they were #2 behind Madonna, then Simply Red then Kylie. In those days it was very rare for something to debut at #1 on The Chart Show chart - especially if it did so without it being matched by the Gallup chart the following day. The Chart Show chart did seem like a midweek chart, but I think it also picked up sales from the previous Friday and Saturday, thus causing new releases to chart lower in their first week. Throughout 1987-1988 they always had the number of hours and minutes listed since the chart was published (usually about 2-3 hours), thus earning its tag as "The Fastest Chart On Television"!!!

Retrochart: UK Top 40 - 15/04/89
Dale counted down this chart on Pick Of The Pops today on Radio 2. You can hear it for the next 7 days on the Listen Again facility on the Raio 2 website. The week ending date of this chart - 15th April 1989 - was also the day of the Hillsborough disaster. A great chart, but those songs also remind of me that too. (EDITS: As Robbie also mentions in the MRIB thread too)
