  8. eightiespopkid posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Can't really fault this show. Nice to see they're letting the countdown speak for itself and not trying to be clever. (Hello, Radio 1!) There's been the odd "last week position" error here and there, but I'm willing to forgive. When the Elvis re-issues are over in December we should get a full forty, and what a festive forty that will be with all the oldies coming back!!
  9. Great info. The Network Chart only featured a Top 30 for about the first seven years though - played in full. Positions 75-31 were featured on a "warm-up" programme between 4-5pm on Capital Radio featuring a selection of new entries and climbers. I think it was 1991 that this was increased to a complete Top 40 - mirroring what Bruno and Mark were doing on Radio 1. Radio 1's 4:30pm start didn't last long: loads of the songs were clumsily edited so they could feature them all. Verses and choruses missed out here and there... It was dreadful. I was very relieved when they extended it to a three-hour show. I miss that format so much! Wish I'd appreciated it properly at the time!
  10. 60k-70k. I would have gone for 100k in the past, but the singles market has changed a lot in the last year. A lot of the outlets where this single would have done well physically (ie supermarkets) no longer sell singles, and even in places like HMV, Woolies and Virgin have scaled down their singles sections so that you can only find them if you're *really looking* for them! In the past, artists like Leona would have benefited from a lot of casual buyers picking up a copy of the single whilst browsing. Even with all these high profile singles released this week, the stores I visited didn't have them in a display at the front of the store or anything.... I know she'll have a lot of downloads but singles of this ilk traditionally did well physically but the vehicles used historically to sell these are either no longer there or not being utilised properly. Plus, people are aware that the album is justaround the corner and will be waiting for that. I think the days of a *normal* 100k+ selling single are now over. You may get the odd charity single or single launched *directly* from The X Factor/Christmas week exceeding that but that will be all. It will be interesting to see how well/badly this year's X Factor winner's sales will be this year. I predict 250k: Leona did 570,000 last year and Shayne 750,000 the year before was it?
