Extraordinary, and surely unique, chart occurance
The Feeling - as far as I know - hold the record for most weeks at a position between #11 and #75, when "Fill My Little World" was #16 for four weeks in a row in 2006. I think this prompted an entire thread on chc at the time? I think Jester had something to do with it? We put together a list of each position in descending order of songs which held that position for the most consecutive weeks, e.g. #34 - Bucks Fizz - "I Hear Talk" - 3 weeks - Jan 1985. Tina Turner's #40 was also there, but shared it with Holly And The Ivys' "Christmas On 45" - 3 weeks - Dec 1981/Jan 1982! It made for very interesting reading!

The Almost Saturday Charts w/k ending 20th June 08
There were stacks of Cure singles in my HMV on Friday - rather too many really! Dave - you have an error in your 1989 singles chart - "I Won't Back Down" is listed as being by New Model Army instead of Tom Petty. Cheers as ever for a great thread!

Who Will Topple Mint Royale?
Coldplay - "Viva La Vida" - #2 on iTunes, and it's only just started getting airplay. It has massive crossover potential.

Sunday Chart Predictions
In singles, Coldplay's "Violet Hill" and Fratellis are still experiencing slight reclimbs. In albums, Father's Day really takes effect (although Neil Diamond is surely one for the mums?). As I expected, Fratellis are off the top spot but it's a surprise to see them as low as #4. Madonna has fallen from yesterday, but that's only to be expected with the new arrival at #1.

Sunday Chart Predictions
Yes, Top 11 exactly the same as yesterday. Feeder have fallen 5 places, so everything between #13 and #17 yesterday has moved up 1. That's as exciting as it gets in that part of the chart!
-
Sunday Chart Predictions
Yep, just seen it! Cheers!
-
Sunday Chart Predictions
A bit of shuffling around - most of the physical releases this week have moved down a couple of places. Looks like Scooter have not yet been combined as they're still showing a slight fall from Sunday's position. Nickelback are on their way back up AGAIN :( - It's a Top 39 again, so #40 could be Madonna or Rihanna perhaps... In albums, nothing much to report. Madonna has fallen a couple of places today.

Sunday Chart Predictions
It might be my eyes, but I can only find "Greatest Hits" and that was Top 90
-
Sunday Chart Predictions
Their new one - "What Your Boyfriend Said." It must be doing well on physicals but may not stay Top 40 by Sunday. Having said that, all 5 of their previous hits went Top 40 so I guess they are "big enough" for this part of the chart.
-
Sunday Chart Predictions
Yep, "Hard Candy" is in the summary - a non-mover

Sunday Chart Predictions
I'm here to answer queries between 12pm and 1pm if any come in. "Viva La Vida" will only become eligible from Thursay (so Friday's mids) but only the album version. Since people are downloading the single version en masse at the moment it's unlikely to do much in the chart, unless attention switches immediately to the album version upon the album's release. The single version will continue to be NCQ, so I only see the album version denting the bottom of the Top 40 by Sunday as it will have only chalked up 3 days' worth of sales.

What's going wrong with indie in 2008?
Going back to the first post: it's a misconception that Arctic Monkeys have done well from downloads - they haven't. It's their physical sales which prop them up every time. "Brianstorm"'s performance on downloads was hugely underwhelming considering how massive an act they were/are, going #11-#11 before climbing to #2 upon physical release. Because they were lumped in with the MySpace phenomenon, people mistakenly believe they sell singles on downloads. Indie stuff is underperforming if it's not on the Radio 1 playlist, I agree. They think they're oh-so-cutting-edge playing Kooks, SFG, Hoosiers etc, but this is just pop really - and not very good pop either. Indie acts can get more of a chanceof breaking through now if their album does well - and the only way that's going to happen if Radio 1 haven't taken a shine to them is by getting glowing reviews in NME, Q, Mojo, Uncut etc. If they can chart in the Top 10 with their album then the word-of-mouth effect may well knock through to the singles chart... but this hasn't really happened yet... either that or I can't think of any examples. As usual, if you don't look outside the box for good music then you risk missing out on it. The Radio 1 playlist sucks!
