But Sue, your boiler may not be as old as ours. We had the present one complete with new hot water cylinder and cold header tank (the indirect system) installed in late 1992. Before that we had the direct system with the previous boiler. My daughter has the condenser type and has had trouble with it (her house is much newer than ours).

Income tax in America is 35% (top) so not much difference.

Well, I know showbiz people earn thousands, but taking a base figure of £100....... 100 less 40% management fees .......£60 60 less 40% income tax....................£36 (and in April the top tax band will be 51.5%) So in every £100 only £36 is earned. And this is not allowing for all expenses incurred. I presume these will come out of the earner's pocket. So for every thousand earned, less than £360 goes to the person. I shall never be so impressed again at performers' salaries as published in the papers !!!!!!!!!

On DS a swimmer, Australian Stephanie Price, has dumped her management company because they were taking 20% of all her earnings. Do all management companies take this much? http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/news/a...management.html If 19 were collecting this much from D, they seemed to do very little to earn it !!

Could it be because he has exhausted his old material and he has not released new songs? Just a thought. :???: Plus he has been busy in other areas of entertainment. Maybe he wanted to stretch his wings.

Ours is old but we have been advised to keep it as apparently there are only three things that can go wrong, and these can easily be replaced. Whereas the new boilers, we have been told, are much more complicated and frequently give trouble.

I've just realised that I haven't collected our free spectacles from Sainsbury's, so we won't be able to watch the 3D TV programmes this week.

Talking about putting the heat on, Meg has reminded me I should be looking out a phone number to book someone to service the boiler. I'd hate it to pack up when the really cold weather comes.

Glad you enjoyed it, Meg. It must be great living close enough to the city to be able to go to the shows without the hassle of a long train journey and probably an overnight stay.

Gareth Gates - To star in HAIR 2012
Gareth never seems to age and he always looks so happy. Wonder how tall Andy is, much smaller than Gareth. Singing with Darius would really look odd. Was it Tom Cruise who used to stand on a box for close-ups in his films?
