Darius's Big Birthday Card

It was three years ago tonight
It was three years ago tonight, by the day, not the date (26th was the date) when the Dive In Tour kicked off at Rhyl. I recall Monster (Sue) being there, Heidi, Aubergenie were in the front row and there were plenty of mad fans and quite a few gay boys there for our man Aubergenie and I had travelled from Aberystwyth where she was at Uni at the time to deliver the BQT (The Big Quilty Thing) The National Tour Banner to the start of the tour and I was supposed to see Darius at 6.15pm I got there at 6.30pm and missed the appointment due to an accident near Wrexham. I had driven at 95 mph on the A55 in the rain trying to make up the time The fastest i have ever driven in my whole life! Keith the merchanisding man was going to be the guardian of the BQT for the tour and I met up with him whilst Abs and Heidi were in at the gig. He had been let down by the people coming to help him sell the merchandise and so I offered to help him As a thank you he let me use his AAA pass to go into the auditorium where I heard at least six songs and was able to start "Phone Homes" to Hazey, Tracy Bagpuss, and Becks B. After the gig, when Abs and Heidi had come out we were able to have long chats with a lot of the people who wanted to know what the gig was like what the merchandise was like (Poster - shaggable!!) and we tried for a ride around Rhyl to see if we could find him No luck, but on the Sunday, Heidi did meet him All in all, it was a memorable kick off to one of the most exciting months of my life. During the tour I went to Belfast, Cardiff (where I met my Pop Idol at last) my home gig at Bristol (front row centre!!) and then to Hammersmith for the last night. En route I had the Time of My Life and I shall never ever forget it. On the anniversaries I shall post about the other gigs ... but thats Rhyl for the time being What gigs did you go to? Whats your best memory Tell us about it here

appreciation thread
He was pretty scared when he was shown my name on the greet list for upstairs at Hammersmith .. shot him totally down in flames .... Talking of Hammersmith ... when Darius said "Have you had a good night?" and we all went "Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas" he pointed down into the crowd and said "Someone down here has had a good night" Could only be the young lady who managed a groping feel of Big D and the Groovy Twosome .... as Hazey once dubbed Darius's important bits .... and Im not talking about his vocal chords here. That stage invasion was just OTT but what a night it was ... one never to forget! There are several photographs to prove just what a good night Darius had ... and Penny .. you had something to do with that!

Emotional songs
I first heard Live Twice off the net when Sonnet recorded it off GWRfm the same day D was playing at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta. I nearly fell to pieces in my own front room. It was so close to my own experience with losing my Paul. Darius could have written it for me But then I heard Journey's End. If I had asked Darius to write a song for me, that is the one I would have asked for. The emotion behind the line "This can't be the way it ends ... this cant be your journey's end ..." rips into my soul every time I hear it and that is why i dont listen to it often. When that norty Zoolander (now there is someone who would enjoy this forum!!) texted me from the Belfast signing of the Kinda Love singles, and I rang him back to say NERRRRRRRRRR (as you do ...) he only yelled out "Hey Darius .. Trishiboo's on the phone" .... and I ended up speaking to him D asked me what did I think of the album and I had to tell him how I thought LT was my song until I heard JE .... He was very surprised. I think its the heartbeat that just makes the whole thing just .... indescribable *feels a chill down her back*

daily Record Tuesday
This is my nomination speech Dear all at the Record Scottish Style Icon Vote .... Nominations Required There is just one person to vote for DARIUS DANESH!! Darius has been instrumental in bringing kilt wearing into the 21st Century. He has the body (oh yes!!) to wear one with style and the attitude to take Scottish National Dress away from the twee-ness of Brigadoon and The White Heather Club. The kilt has returned it to where it belongs, true to the spirit of William Wallace as a symbol of what it means to be male and Scottish. Bold, self aware, unafraid and confident. Darius has all four of those qualities in abundance and when added to his looks, his charm, his love of Scotland and above all his musical and performing talents, there is no one else of his generation to touch him. He is symbol of the new age of Scottish Male Style, even when not in the kilt. He carries off the grungy look well and is just astonishingly sophisticated in the Rat Pack style and in formal attire as he wore in the West End in Chicago as Billy Flynn But his best style .... white Rob Roy shirt, black leather kilt, DM boots or "Porage Oats Man" Campbell Kilt and white vest ... Do you think I am a bit of a fan maybe??? Hehehe!!!    :cheer:

recovery of little girl from st Ormond
She is looking so much better than in the pic with D ... What a lovely story .. I didnt place her as the girl with Darius last year but then as said before, she was looking so unwell in the picture and now she looks the picture of health If D visiting her gave her a lift and the will to battle on, then he did her a power of good

Artists Forums League
They are just scared that someone who is not "cool" according to their blinkered out of touch "if the music media says he isnt we mustnt be seen to like him" sensibilities, might actually have a fanbase who is loyal I honestly believe that a good amount of people buy albums by bands like Coldplay because of the sheep syndrome. The die hard fans buy it and it gets noticed then the rest buy it so as to say "ive got that one" or "ive got that one because it makes me feel that I am up to date, cool, knowledgeable and a la mode" I know of someone who buys albums to be able to say he has them ... and never plays them How crass is that Another manifestation of that kind of attitude is displayed here and on CC with regard to our man. You just watch, the minute our man "repairs" his reputation in their eyes, he will not be able to do any wrong and there will be "I was a fan since Popstars" arseholes popping up everywhere. Thing is .. we will know the truth. What I will want to know is .. "where were you when GITM didnt make it to the top twenty. How many copies did you buy" Sod the lot of them .... pity them for what they dont know

Im not ashamed to say that I actually did .. big style .. and in front of several workmates who walked in on me in the Staff Rest Room just on the bit "If this is goodbye ......" had made me absolutely howl. In fact, every now and then I get the PI DVD out ... and it still has the same effect

Mystery of You
Yes I did see it ... I wish I had taped it now. It was during that weird period when he was around but not around and all they could find for him to do was be the one to be poked fun at ... as in the 2001 Red Nose Day when he was put into a "boy band" He was the tallest (of course) he wore a leather outfit and when he turned round and faced the camera he got a huge round of applause. I wish I could remember who else was there. It was all done for fun which just goes to show that Darius is always ready for a laugh Now a question from me .... I cannot remember his middle names ... they are all obscure, Persian names .. there was definitely no one else in his class with the same names. Anyone remember? All I can recall is one of them began with a Z ..

favourite Darius lyric?
Put your faith in me Im solid ground Your faith in me won't let you down When you believe you'll laugh out loud Your faith in me won't let you down girl Come with me Yeah ..... That just makes me want to cheer!! But the bit in the verse ...... They tell you who to love, tell you who to rate 50 ways to leave your lover, write the rules for gettin' laid So true .. trying to live our lives according to Heat, Lady Victoria Newton ... and the rest of the popular media just screws your head up. I am so very glad we dont have a "news" section here ..... it can be so depressing the way our man gets treated This song is just two fingers to the lot of them!! I think Faith in Me is one of the cleverest songs he has ever written and should have been released as an A side. It was better than Kinda Love anyday

Darius Song Of The Day
Tonight on BBC3 then repeated later on BBC2 is the Manchester Passion, the story of Jesus told around the streets of Manchester with songs by The Smiths, Oasis, Inspiral Carpets Joy Division and other Mancunian artists. It got me thinking that there could be a Glasgow Passion and if so, there is a song that our Glasgow Man could sing He could play the part of St Peter, wounded by having to deny his Lord three times. He would then sing If I could Imagine it .... and I challenge you not to have a lump in your throat The one I have right now is choking me
