Eggheads tonite - did anyone watch - I just walked in the door and the question went to Judith who won millionaire - which former pop idol played Rhett - butler in Gone with the wind. she answered Da-rius - thats how she pronounced it but she lost the question because she couldn remember his surname and they wouldnt accept it without. Shame as he is known quite a lot by the one name.

A lot of people seem to think Richard Armitage is dishy. I remember him when he played the fiancee of Dawn french in the vicar of dibley, dont know how he kept a straight face but I think he was also Guy of Gisborne in robin hood. very much up and coming I would say.

Thanks Bramley for the information. Great. I always find Xmas a bit of a worry. Having two children both married I never know what is happening until about a week before so its difficult because there are other in laws involved. I would be upset though if I didnt see my grandchildren so generally it finishes up splitting the day. I am ahead with presents though, packed up quite a few. I do think though it will pay to shop late as there will be lots of reductions, even now there are.

Another bit fr9om anoher site = Whoa! That was bloody hard work. This show will be remembered for trying, maybe trying too hard. I've quietly taken the album in the last few months and secretly looked forward to how it was on stage- I'm now bitterly disappointed. There are some wonderful performances there and they have a very hard time working with some of the most boring material since 'Gone With The Wind'- at times I began to wish we were watching Darius doing his thing. The set is superb but very static, not typical of Eugene Lee. The orchestra sounded rather muffled and almost taped at times, this is what took the whole thing away for me as it sounds so wonderful on the album. The audience seemed to sit there in semi stunned silence and thats pretty much how they reacted to the curtain call. The critics were spot on with this one and I don't see this running very long into 2009. They comped 300 seats tonight!

Re the new show at the new london theatre - this post on dresscircle. By all accounts ticket sales are dire for this. Contrary to the moral highground expressed above, people will always make judgements on new shows and they will only spend their money if it captures their interest. Initially this may just be based on the title, subject matter and poster design. Contributers to this site are by definition fans of musicals, but they only make up a tiny part of the audience needed to keep an expensive musical running. It is no good telling the masses that they should give new shows a chance. Why should they? Especially if they tried the likes of Gone With The Wind recently. Yes we need new shows. I'm totally bored with Joseph/Grease/Blood Bros/Buddy/We Will Rock You/Phantom etc. On the other hand, we need shows that will appeal to enough people to make them financially viable. There follows a lot of posts discussing the show in the same vein as GWTW - in other words beforfe they have seen it but they are more symp-athetic this time becaue so many shows are closing. Lots of posts from supporters perhaps thats what we should have done saying how good GWTW was and how the americans liked it. it would at least got some publicity but that seems to be the story of Ds life, the same thing with From a distance, it needed a wider audience.

A lot seems to depend on what channel it is shown on. The sci fi channel which eli stone was on didnt seem to get much attention for instance on DS yet other cult shows did shown on other channels.

I forgot to say the whole cast had to adopt american accents.N oel just about managed it but at the end he made the speech without a trace of a welsh accent. I think the problem was that a couple of the supporting artists accent was very good therefore some of the others stood out as not.
