What's your favourite b-side?
It was no surprise to me, it was very popular with a lot of people when it was released too - many of whom aren't around/posting now - it was in poll position for favourite Darius song including A-sides over on Devotees during the Dive In era too. I absolutely adore it and always have, but I also adore Fragile and I had to vote for just one, I chose Fragile, because I knew more other people would have voted for my other favourite - Tear Run Dry anyway ;) :D I don't really understand what you mean by "mean" and although it's very heartfelt and poignant emotionally, I don't find it "moody" either, those terms suggest 'depressing' to me and I don't get a 'depressing' sense from Tear Run Dry. I get a sense of regret, a sense of desperation, frustration and urgency and most of all, utter determination from both the lyrics and from how Darius sings/expressed the lyrics. It just seemed to capture the essense of how Darius may have felt about his career journey following PopStars to me - so maybe I just get a different impression from the song because of how I interpret the meaning of the song - to me it just captured what was to me, the very essense of Darius at the time :)

Which Darius Song Would You Choose
Sounds promising :D and I knew you'd find a way to weedle in more that one however you try and wriggle out of it ;) :P I bet next time you change shifts and have a few mins to spare, there might be one or two other Darius tracks, that just happen to be in the right position on your mp3 player ;) :D

Your favourite track from Dive In is...
Thanks B.P. - I've been itching to know what was winning - I just don't want to void my vote ... I bet I'll never be able to use it though :P :D

Darius Music - Downloads
I was on iTunes last night, downloading myself a copy of Paolo Nutini's new EP - and as usual, whenever I go in their music store, I have a look at the Darius catalogue and info - I also downloaded a copy of Fragile whilst I was there - don't really know why - it just wanted me to - so I did :P :D Anyway, I thought you might be interested in iTunes' Top rated Darius Downloads and this is what they were last night: Live Twice (album) Colourblind (CD2) Dive In I would Die For You Big Feather Bed Live Twice (EP - LT/BFB/IWDFY) Mystery of You Live Twice (single - LT/MOY) Devil in You Journey's End Incredible (EP - I/DFTB/F)

Strange
No, not at all, it's not a problem for me anyway, it's like having a conversation with someone posting in a thread to me; and I just want to makes sure I understand what you mean properly. But you don't have to explain if you've not got time, there's certainly no rush anyway - don't worry about it Meg :)

James Blunt blast critics
Well I don't know him as a person, I've never even met him, so I can't really say on that score, if I'd like him or not? As for the article, it may be taken out of context, or perhaps it was tongue-in-cheek humour aimed as a dig back at the press? he's taken some stick, so why shouldn't he give some back? I dislike how the media has a tendancy to build people up/put them down etc... Generally, I don't take much notice of what's written in the press/in the media about much at all, because I know how misleading that can be sometimes. But, whatever his personality might be like in real life, I don't know if that would really affect what I think of his music, I'd like to think not - he'd have to do something pretty drastic to have that effect on me I think. When he first broke on to the scene and I first heard it, I loved the song - You're Beautiful - it made me stop in my tracks literally, but I struggled to like his singing voice for a while, but it grew on me though. I also had a semi-conscious nark with him a bit I think at the time, because he nicked off with Darius's drummer  He didn't really, 'nick' him, just that he was working more and more with James and less and less with Darius and even though I understood it, it fizzed me off at the time, because I felt that Darius had written acoustic songs just as good as James Blunt's and has a nicer voice for my taste. So I had a silly-chip on my shoulder for a bit and even though, I didn't seriously begrudge Karl, or James anything - I was narked that it wasn't Darius  - but my angst was at the industry really - not James ;) ... I overcame my nark pretty quickly, especially when I listened properly to the rest of the album + some other stuff - Goodbye My Lover and No Bravery, had me hooked particularly at first, then Out of My Mind. I love everything about the album, not just the songs/music, but also, the design/artwork; the videos and the same with the website - it just all really appealed to me  I do think he's been over-hyped and that You're Beautiful was over played, but even though I tired of hearing it, I still think it is a good song, from a good album though - and I think the over-hype/overplay has fostered a back-lash resentment towards him, which the media have helped to perpetuate - in both directions  It does annoy me, but in the sense that there are loads of really good artists out their fighting to squeeze through the bottle-neck to get some radio airplay, on such restricted playlists - a few less spins of the same thing and a bit more variety, would surely be better for the artists and listeners alike -I won't kid myself that will ever happen though  So, what is it about his music, that you think gives the singer/songwriter genre a bad name then?

Paolo Nutini
Yeah, it's the first proper single - out 3rd July - I really like the song - have you watched the live performance of it - on the tiscali showcase? I've not seen the video though - I used to have The Box, I thought I still did, 'till just recently, but I've found out it's disappeared off my ntl - cheeky swipers :o :P - I'll just have to be patient - it will appear somewhere online soon enough I suppose :D

Darius To Open For George Michael
I wondered if you were getting you're own back in the thread shocker-stakes ;) Mind you, we've lived through the Pat thread experience for real - well sort of  and I didn't care for that much :( - but George Michael & Darius on the same bill would be a dream - a double delight for me B)

Your album
 - I think I can just about manage 24 - 12 each disc - I'll do my best - starting with the Rocky-D-side the first track has to be: Sliding Doors :D I'll be back with the next 11 eventually ;) Just thinking - some of us managed a Top 10 for Leigh ... I did a top 20 as well - I'll try and find that after I've done this and see if it works out the same :P

What Darius tune are you listening to now?
A lot of people mentioned that it seemed to have a Beatles quality/influence when they first heard it, including me - I think it was described as being 'Beatles-esq' in an album review too - it's the album version that we first heard, when it was first mentioned. It's just a general thing that hit me straight away though, so maybe, it doesn't happen for you Paul. But I'm listening to it now to try and pinpoint some of the things in the song that maybe led me to feel it in the first place. It's the psychedelic Beatles type stuff and it's the music, or general sounds, more than the lyrics that makes a connection for me. Listen to the guitar work in particular, there's a soft under-beat that is sort of going wah-wah-wah-wah quickly a lot of the time, especially in the chorus's - the guitar work is then louder and particularly reminiscent of the Beatles to me; and listen also to the guitar solo. The backing singing of the ahh-ahh's have something to do with it as well. But then again, I heard a Beatles influence in Mocking Bird - the early live version, the instant I heard it too -but more along the lines of their rocky-pop stuff; Dive In is similar in that way too really. I also hear a ballady type Beatles influence in Right Girl, Wrong Time too -I've just mentioned in another thread on here, that one puts me in mind of And I Love Her; and If I Fell, So, quite often Darius songs seem Beatles-esq to me anyway :)

Singer/Songwriter rate results
Thanks for doing the results list David - strange - yeah a bit, I think, because there are many artists that a lot of people including me, are not very familiar with - but overall there are some good ones on it - what place they end up, will always be debateable I suppose. I liked lots on the list more than Kate Bush, but I also think there's a fair few artists who's music I now want to make the time to get more accuainted with - so job well done I'd say

Paolo Nutini
I noticed a few people gave Paolo some points in the recent rate poll; and that even more people are unfamilar with him/his music - so I thought I'd flag up that there are 3 live performances and an interview taken from the Tiscali showcase he did on Friday, currently available to view online HERE  The single 'These Streets' - is meant to be available on iTunes as a free download on Monday 29th as well :)

Record Of the Decade - The Final 50
Blimey-Charlie - so this is what all the fuss was about eh? :D I can see it's all done and dusted now really - but having read it, I've got to reply to some of the assumptions that have been made from my own point of view :) The short answer to that in my case is No :) I knew it would be in there somewhere when 'thisispop' posted in the Darius forum that this poll was underway, I'd already pasted the complete list of songs into a notepad and was half way through rearranging them into the order of which ones I personally liked the best. The suggestion that the other songs on the list would be irrelevant to me, particularly gets my goat, because I even took the trouble to seek out and listen to some of the tracks again, to jog my memory of them and make sure I wasn't doing anything a disservice and re-arranged them a few times accordingly. Even one's I couldn't remember/don't own, I at least checked out a sample on iTunes to jog my memory. I posted that I actually found this particular poll really difficult, as I liked more than the 20 songs allowed. Well, this was my list - with the space between 20 and 19pts being deliberate. I happen to really like The Verve/Richard Ashcroft - so, it just goes to show how wrong assumptions can be sometimes doesn't it. I quite like some of Radiohead's stuff too as it happens; and if you think that Darius's music is spoon-fed manufactured drivel, then I suggest that maybe you're doing the same thing - i.e. probably not really listening with a fair and open mind to his material properly. It may not be to your liking, but I'm pretty sure from what you've said, that you actually know very little about Darius's music really. I think you've got a very valid point there too - and I think it does apply to Darius, his songs, this situation, for some people - it does seems to work both ways though, so probably overall, it will cancel itself out anyway, but I'd guess it works against, rather than for Darius overall - whatever song of his happens to be in whatever poll. I think generally people should try to be a bit more accepting of diversity of opinions about music and particular songs, then maybe things like this would balance out in a logical and fair way, if it's not already doing anyway :)

Tip's Record of the Decade - final 50 vote now
It's not about 'Darius'; or recording careers, or anything else, other than about a song - 'Colourblind' - or shouldn't be for goodness sake - people who like it vote for it, if you don't then fair enough, just don't vote for it - simple ^_^

Darius in Buzzjack Ultimate #1 poll
I can see where you're coming from - but it is tiresome though - all 3 are very different artists - I'm glad you've posted the link - I'd rather see it in full context as well really - thanks :) I've not voted it in Record of the Decade as my favourite either, but I still voted for it - as I do really like it and think it's a good song. I've just had a look at your vote in there, but I'm not sure why you didn't vote for Colourblind if you like it though? ... is it because there were too many others on the list that you like more - have I grasped that right? - If so, that's fair enough of course :) I think the thing that has got up my nose in those polls, is that it feels like people who voted for Colourblind are challenged by other posters, when that doesn't occur anywhere near so much over peoples' opinions of other songs. I fully accept that some people don't rate Colourblind - but why is there a need to challenge those that do? I also notice that sometimes people don't actually refer to the song, so much as to 'Darius' - as if, it's an issue with voting for Darius per say, rather than an objective view of the song. I just don't understand what the big deal/fuss is - but there usually tends to be one. It can be off-putting when you can't simply vote for something you like, without a fuss - it seems silly and childish to me and it's wearing I suppose  - but I like what I like - all sorts of music/artists; and I'll say so, whatever it is - irrespective of who has a problem with it - I really couldn't care less if other people like what I do or not - so, if I want to vote I will, regardless :) edit: I'm just reading through the Record of the Decade thread, to see what all the bloomin' fuss is about anyway - and I've just come accross your post Tim - where you said this: So, now I know what you were referring to - and you do that thing that irritates me too - Make it into a 'Darius thing' - when you've said yourself you actually like the song Colourblind - especially considering you like the song, I just don't get why you felt the need to say that at all

Strange
He said the same what? after Maidstone - that he wasn't ready to go with new stuff? Or, that he'd shove a couple of pop gigs in? - or both? - Sorry Meg, I feel like you're replying to something in my post, even though you've not quoted it, but I'm just not clear what you're saying exactly. I just saw all the pop gigs Darius did during 2005, as being still part of the promotional trail for the Live Twice era, which began in summer 2004 - it was more or less continuous in one form or another over about 18 months really - or at least that's how it seems to have been to me. I thought that Maidstone was a bit different (set-apart) though, but I wasn't expected anything 'new' music-wise then, were you? - If Darius had stayed with Mercury, then another single release off Live Twice, maybe two, but I wasn't expecting any new music last year myself anyway. Has Darius said recently to anyone though, that he's going to try to be around late summer? - or is that still based on what he said to people at the end of his Chicago stint in the West End? Either way though, he might be doing some gigs, or he might not eh? - we'll find out when something does or doesn't happen for definite I suppose :D - I'm not feeling any sense of impatience - I think it's nice to imagine that Darius might be free of music industry/associated pressures for a while :)

Darius in Buzzjack Ultimate #1 poll
Oh, I assumed it was your's as you'd come to share the results - Well 'thisispop' promoted his chart better than Martie & Graham did then ;) :D Ooops :( - it's worse than I thought then  - it might have done a bit better still if I'd known about it and voted ;) :D

Which Darius Song Would You Choose
If I was going to pick just one song right at the moment - then I'd choose Right Girl, Wrong Time. Everytime I've got Darius's music on in the background - it just really captures my heart  - but it's never been released so maybe it doesn't really count and also the meaning for Darius touches me, whereas for someone who doesn't know anything about him - it might not - but that can be said about a lot of Darius's songs for me though really - I relate to his stories/lyrics because I know something about the meaning for him. Right Girl, Wrong Time really captures me on a musical level as well though - it's reminiscent of some old Beatles songs that I used to love - like And I Love Her and If I Fell - not quite sure what it is - the simplicity, but something else too - so maybe if she likes that type of old Beatles stuff, she might like that one too? I do think it's very personally subjective though - the 3 you've mentioned I just wouldn't choose myself. Chrysalis to Butterly has never been a favourite of mine anyway, but I remember it got right up some Will fans noses at the time anyway - due to the fact that they misinterpreted what Darius actually meant when he said "sometimes bronze makes you the winner" :D Also myself, I much prefer the album/fully produced versions of both Gotta Know Tonight and Live Twice - so we differ in our tastes there too - which I suppose is why I suggested to go with the poll results - as those choices would appear to favoured by more people than any of our individual choices ;) - but anyway, now you're cheating - you said 1 and that's 3 you've chosen ;)

Darius in Buzzjack Ultimate #1 poll
I didn't vote in yours Tim - sorry I didn't see it, well I sort of did - but didn't really know what it was all about - now you leave your visiting card, when it's too late though! :D - unlike thisispop ;) :P :D - You can slug it out between ya! in 'ere ;) :D - all I know is #128 isn't nearly good enough for Colourblind regardless of whoever else is in the chart  :D

Still a dish though ;) :D The whole thing was great :cheer:
