  1. I didn't mean it that way lol! - I just meant that you referred to the 'artist' instead of the 'song' for Darius, whereas you referred to the 'song' in Robbie's case ... it made me wonder whether, consciously or unconsiously, it wasn't the song, so much as 'Darius' that you didn't want to see win - But maybe there's something even more subconscious going on than that then heheh ;) :P
  2. Well you did say: I understood your motivation was because you feel other songs deserve it more, but if you're trying to alter the result because you don't want it to win, it's still not a straight forward vote for the songs you like best without anything else having influenced your choices. As I've said already, I think whether consciously or not - it's works both ways - and it's a shame either way. As it happens, I like the song that has won this particular poll, but if I didn't, or even thought it was complete pants! I wouldn't go out of my way to try and ensure it didn't win - I'd just continue to vote for what I like and accept that more people like something different to me.
  3. Colourblind was a very popular song in the summer of 2002 - I think it was in the charts for about 16 weeks with a re-entry, so it's not unreasonable for 19 of the 100+ thousand people who obviously liked it enough to go out and buy it, to rank it as their favourite from a small list of 20 songs. It's also not unreasonable to find people on here who didn't like it at all either - we all have different tastes/things we like and dislike etc... I do understand where you (and other people) are coming from in your belief that not everyone is voting based on the song itself though, it does seem odd that it comes out top with several people in a small environment like this, but, it also seems equally odd to me that even more people didn't even include it in their top 20's at all. Maybe to an extent whether it's been voted top of the list, or left out completely, that's partly due to reactions to each others perspectives - i.e. you said yourself, you felt the need to vote, to try and ensure Colourblind didn't win, so deliberately left it out of your list with that objective in mind. So there could well have been a conscious or even unconscious tussle going on - if so, then I think that's a sad state of affairs really :( - especially if it has less to do with the actual song and is a tussle about an 'artist' or their 'image' - that seems to be playing a part when it shouldn't because it's meant to be about voting for your favourite record i.e. the song. e.g. It's interesting that you've referred to 'Darius' on the one hand; and yet 'Feel' on the other there Scotty ;) :)

I seem to think I didn't like that white kilt? Darius generally looks well in one though - lovely leggies all the way up :D and I know it's his national dress and he's proud to wear it etc... but I think there's a time and place for it too and can understand that he's mainly reserved it for appearances in Scotland, or other 'Kilt-related' things. Mind you, I'd sooner see him in his jeans at gigs and other clothes generally - bet I'm in a minority there though :P :D
  5. Sorry I missed that post - Rising Damp - ooooh Miss Jones  Oh I might have a gander on Friday then ;)
  6. It may have been '69 I really can't remember, but I either bought it or was still playing it in 1970+ anyway - it's not like Santana disappeared on 31/12/69 on the stroke of midnight ;) - he's still around now. Funnily enough I noticed 'Marks & Spencers' using 'Samba Pa Ti' on a TV advert recently too :) I do think there's all types of music around now, but yes, probably you need to look for some things away from the maintstream/charts as tigerboy said, but I also agree that the industry is far more business orientated and controlled now though :( - I think it was easier for artists who emerged then, to stick around and weather their highs and lows over the years, than it is now. Just editing to say that Elton John, David Bowie & Queen were all artists that I got into in the 70s too - oh and Roxy Music and Michael Jackson ....there were tons I could be here all night - but it will seem that way to me - because they were my teenage years ;)
  7. With you now ;) - Yeah they had us all on a butty ;) :P :D edit: Breakaway has just popped in my mind - though that's the name of a biscuit so maybe that's why :P ;)

Incredible  - I voted in a poll :cheer:
  10. Right! decision time has come :( :P 4. - Girl in The Moon is my actually favourite song of the Darius singles, but I prefer the album version to the single version - I think the echoey/distortions spoil it for me ... so with a heavy heart, I've decided in a singles sense this isn't my top choice - that's one down and 3 left to go  3. - Next up - Colourblind I love it - but I voted for it in favourite video - so that gives me an excuse to put it on the sidelines ;) - and I think maybe it's suffered a bit from over familiarity too. 2. - Live Twice - so lovely  - came runner up in my favourite video's too :( But, I've been listening to these four back to back today and ... my vote just has to go to .... ta daaaah .... 1. - Incredible :cheer:  I used to think some of the lyrics in this song were a bit corny - the nah, nah's (bit like the ba bahs in Kinda Love - and "I'm having a meltdown" just cracked me up when I first heard it  ). But I think it's a really clever song, that I relate to in perhaps a different way than the lyrics immediately convey as well. It never fails to make me smile (like Colourblind) - it's got a really energetic vibe to it and most of all, I love how Darius sings this - he conveys the emotions so well, even right down hearing him sucking in his breath, groaning, etc... he just sings it with such gusto; passion; attitude and enthusiasm - I just find that so infectious and energising :D

If you're listening to these clips, do it via the right-click save target as method, because if you just click and listen it can cause bandwidth problems for her ;)
  12. The opening few bars sound 'rock-ier', but then after that and overall it feels pop-ier really. I'm not really reminded of Duran, Duran or A-ha though. Apart from the electric guitar sounds, it's not dissimilar from their earlier stuff for me. It's a bit repetitive and there's nothing about this track that makes me stop in my tracks, like Somewhere only we know did - it's definitely not a BedShaped either, but it's quite catchy and will either catch me or drive me nuts after a while - not sure which yet ;) - sure it will probably do well though :) Thanks Cassidy :)
  13. I'm down to 4 - Colourblind, Girl in the Moon, Incredible & Live Twice - ooooh what to doooo

I don't think it's seems fine at all - it might be with the 'fans' of the particular artists concerned - as mostly they would back whoever/whatever they did I think, but I think 'mainly' covers artists still get a tough time with the critics and radio - and rightly so really in my opinion. I'd hate for Darius to bring out an album of mostly covers :( - because that just doesn't/hasn't ever felt like what Darius is about to me - he's always been about creativity in my eyes, I want to hear whatever inspires him to write songs/music - what is genuinely him creatively, not covers of other peoples' inspirations. I'd sooner wait however long it takes for Darius's own work, than have a covers album from him any day. I'm not totally against covers per say, but for me, they have to either reinvent the original and bring something completely new to it, or to be a vehicle to express something the artist really feels and wishes to communicate at the time - like when Darius sang Faith, Time of my Life, Father & Son, More Than Words etc... all sang with 'personal' meaning/feeling - I wouldn't mind the occasional one on an album or b-side if there was a genuine purpose for doing it - but not a general 'covers' album though.
  15. I don't have ITV3 so I haven't seen the programme - just have the memories (which go back a bit further ;) ) and most of them revolve around music (and boys :P ) - well there were no computers/games then - we used to play outside ;) ... the pictures, concerts, fairs and discos spring readily to mind :) I guess whenever I hear references to the 70's today - it's either Glam Rock (definitely was a big fan of TRex  ) or Disco that seems to be the main focus, with the Punk era coming in more towards the end. Those trends, I think, seemed to come and go. But much like now - there was all kinds of music around ... and much like now I liked a broad range of unassociated genres - very early 70's were mainly about rock for me - Santana (Santana Abraxas was my first ever self-purchased album, which I had to hide from my parents because it had a bare lady on the front   ) Led Zepplin - my first concert - so, the beginning for me was still full of the Woodstock influences of the 60's - hense 'hippy chick'. At the same time though, I was very into the Motown/Soul singers like Marvin Gaye and could be found at the local youth club disco dancing in a line with the rest of them in my 'hot' pants
  16. Family Portrait for me :)

I don't think there was anything wrong with Future Love Paradise as a first audition piece though - it came across well enough to get him through anyway ;) I wouldn't want to change anything about that audition, other than Simon calling him 'corny' and their deliberating that seemed to take forever  It was that; and the Ant-Dec referral to Darius and the stupid wig stunt, that I felt were derogatory towards Darius and reinforcing of previously created negative images, if anything. But I think people must see want they want to see anyway though, because I've never seen arrogance in Darius anyway. I didn't think Darius himself, came across badly in that first audition, in fact he looked quite worried and vulnerable to me - and I was a person at home (still am lol!). It actually impresses me more when an artist shows some individuality/does or wants to do something a bit different. I liked the fact that Darius showed originality/creativity and tried to push for that in these shows - that's why I became interested in him - but I think that was more evident on PopStars, than PopIdol. I've always wondered if Darius was in anyway responsible for inspiring the different approach taken by Fame Academy.
  18. I think the only time I haven't visited Dariusworld regularly was when my PC was caput and I didn't have one :( - That was Jan-Mar 05 and even then, I found myself in the library nearly once a week  :P I think you might have misunderstood what I meant though Pat, I thought PIP was meaning 'officially' as she said perhaps he would do that again.

I do a bit and I've seen that - just not sure which my favourite ones are yet - apart from this one ;) - well not sure I've got 10 favourties yet ... need to make a note of my travels :P - Yes, I've managed to clock up 10 :)
  20. Thanks for taking the time to explain it all :)

Yes, post the list please - I'm sure I'll recall them all eventually but it'll be good to see the list :) Might have to have a re-listen to rate them though - it's been a long time ;) I understand the first part about rating and the top one going through, but I think I'll have to watch what happens to the others to get the gist of that maybe :)

That's the one for me! ;) - Thank you Michelle :D
  23. I've not seen the clip (it was taking an eon to load) so, I might be wrong to judge unseen - but it just seems like a really combination to me - Westlife doing Dont Cha  edit: just realised I missed out the word - odd
  24. Sorry, wasn't thinking  - the address they come from to me is musicinfo@sonybmg.com It's the same address for Will and Shayne ones. If you share them on the forums, you've probably got them but I've still got 4 Will ones (since beginning of March) in my inbox - I can forward them to anyone who think's they've missed out - just email me and I'll send them on :) I think that's half the problem, more so than the artist, or the song - it's all the positive hype versus the negative-hype surrounding these TV talent show artists - it's hard to try and escape from both sides of the arguments really and just judge for yourself whether you simply like something or not  Shayne seems to have far less spent on TV advertising, than Journey South and Andy Abraham - I saw loads of TV adverts for their releases, but I haven't seen one for Shayne's as yet myself? I like the song No Promises as I said before, but I prefer Crazy and so that would be the right #1 for me personally this week. Monday, 17th April - I've still got that email too :D - I believe you need to be there by 11:00am I guess much will depend on the weather - it rains a lot here, so sing the Beautiful South and they're right ;) :D
  25. I've not heard it either yet :( I thought it was Atlantic that was due out first/quite soon - as an internet only thing, anyone heard that yet?
