Cary Grant? Yes, I could see that. Something like To Catch A Thief or Operation Petticoat? Bit tough to bring the latter to a stage, though.

Clark Gable's Rhett Butler Burt Lancaster's Sgt Warden Darius loves a challenge, so which other Hollywood Great's iconic role do you think he would genuinely be able to do justice to? I have two I'd love to see Darius take a crack at BUT not musicals, please! Gregory Peck's Atticus Finch in Harper Lee's To Kill A Mocking Bird and Laurence Olivier's Maxim de Winter in Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca.

Thanks, megham. I've bookmarked the link. I haven't read the book and I can't remember anything about the film. I think I last watched it on VHS. However, I found the whole of the six hour long 1979 TV mini-series is on youtube. It starred William Devane as Warden, Natalie Wood as Karen and Kim Basinger as Lorene. *SPOILER ALERT*

It's OK, megham. I found it on facebook. I didn't realise the page had had a name change. I'll have to play catchup there.

    Archive and news? Where's that?

I'm glad and it also won't be overlong and need constant cutting back like GWTW because Sir Tim has always said that 2 and 1/2 hours is long enough for a musical. Individual posters of the main characters came out last night, but I haven't found the one of Darius yet..

I second that. Also, I hope that Sir Tim and the director don't try to 'sanitise' the original story like Aldo Scrofani and Sir Trevor Nunn seemed to do with GWTW. From Here To Eternity is a hard hitting book and the Hollywood film producers shied away from many of its themes..........perhaps because they needed the co-operation of the US army? Mind you, I'm not sure how much extra could go in the show because the film was fairly long.
  10. That's sad, megham. Losing a longstanding friend forever is so hard to bear.

Thanks, pip. Is it my imagination or does Darius look as if he's bulked up a bit for the part?
  12. Please don't put yourself out. It was just a thought.

Similar articles in the Stage, Broadway World etc but the Evening Standard's is different. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/pop-idol-fi...al-8681338.html Pucker up, Darius. orders from Sir Tim! http://www.lastminutetheatretickets.com/bl...re-to-eternity/

Thanks for the banner. Is that the official poster? It looks a wee bit like the GWTW one, where the silhouettes were the fire burning the confederate flag.
  16. Do you have the Pop Idol one, megham? I loved it. They were such lovely, genuine and humble young people, taking part in a contest, yes, but doing it in a spirit of friendship. Those were the days!.
  17. I don't think I've posted this link before to an article about actors overcoming interruptions or other hitches. Darius gets a mention for handling unusual circumstances in Gone With The Wind. Some of you will remember it clearly because you were there right at the edge of that round stage. The first time I went, I couldn't get over how close the audience was to the actors. Oops, it would be better with the link? http://rageoffstage.wordpress.com/2011/12/...blesome-phones/

Thank you. I've never been away. I have been lurking. I just liked the video. It's nice to see all those little clips put together. You never know when a reference to Darius will pop up. The problem is that when I come across one, I often forget to bookmark it and can't find it again

  22. Thanks, Polly. Nice titfer for a really nice guy. An illustration of the man, posted in digitalspy thread about nice and not so nice celebs I work in radio so have been very fortunate to meet a lot of music and showbiz types over the years. The vast majority are lovely and I have had some wonderful times, being lucky. One person who really sticks in my mind is Darius. Back in about 2003 we had a complete re-furb of the studios and station so we asked Darius to come and perform for some invited clients, listeners and Asda Heroes. Now the Asda Heroes were children of courage and part of a charity campaign they were doing. Anyway, at the end of the set he gave his towel to a disabled girl in a wheelchair and had a good chat with her. About 6 months later we were hosting the Smash Hits Tour at the Sheffield Arena and Darius was on the bill. We went down on a mini bus, again with some of the Asda Heroes, including this girl. She pulled me to one side and said "Darren when Darius gave me his towel he told me he liked my bracelet ( it was in the style of a bike chain ) so would you give it to him when you see him backstage please ?" I did and he was as charming as ever. He told me to thank her. A month or so later he was pictured in Heat Magazine wearing said bracelet. I just thought that was pure class. Apparently the girl was really made up. What a touch
  23. http://morganinrome.wordpress.com/tag/hotel-de-russie/ The evening at Hotel de Russie ended with a performance by singer and actor of Scottish descent, Darius Campbell, who entertained the guests with a live performance accompanied by his musicians.

If true, it's another of those can't refuse offers which blow his original plans out of the water. Will he still be able to fit in his first film role as Lord Harold? I'm pretty sure the film, which he's also co-producing, is set to begin on location shooting in Kenya this summer. Shame if he has to step down. It would have been interesting to see Darius do a lighter, more comedic role. There have been flashes of good timing in all of his roles so far. I wonder if Billy Zane accepted the role he was offered in the musical. Maybe the Ernest Borgnine role? He'd be great because he has the charisma and talent to carry it off. In my opinion, this putative role would gel really well with the style of the album and a ray of optimism is creeping out of the darkness surrounding its release.
