Lee Hazlewood dies - Obituary in here
The Girls In Paris was a monster hit for him in Australia. It's still played on radio to this day. These Boots Are Made For Walking is the only song covered by both Jessica Simpson and Nick Cave.

Four singles already picked for the new album!
IE sold over a million in Australia. It's only the second album by an Aussie singer to do that. Even the guys from Sony didn't think it'd reach the million mark .... but it did.

2nd great director to die within 24 hours!!!
He directed BlowUp possibly the most influencial retro film of all time. ALL the 'red bus' loungecore music of the 90's is directly influence by the film. The bit with The Yardbirds is one of the great pop moments in cinema.

The Smiths vs The Cure
If the Cure had stopped making records after Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me. It would have been The Cure. :D

Retro Soundclash #23
I Feel Love's the record that changed EVERYTHING. It was the sound Bowie and Eno went to Berlin hoping to find. One of the key records of all time. Pink Floyd ????

"The Chain"
Scooter ripped off the KLF in every move or sound they ever made so bdTELokKfCk THE TIMELORDS / KLF - Doctorin' The Tardis

Retro Soundclash #22
I like Long Long While. Simon Napier Bell producd a great cover version with a band called Fresh. It's one of The Stones most under-rated flips. When Jagger sings "I was wrong babe, but not this time" is one of his best vocals.

Sham 69
They were the 1st cartoon punk band (Generation X was the real thing). Without them Greenday and The Offspring could not have existed. The Adventures of the Hersham Boys is the funniest punk album .............EVER. Jimmy Pursey father of modern American chart music :D

Retro Soundclash #22
Paint, It Black's the much better song. The Beatles were trying to be clever with PW. That Frere Jacques bit is pretty annoying. Much better is the remix. i4EJpUKEPYI Paperback Believer: Beatles vs. Monkees

Dave Edmunds & Nick Lowe
They were big in Australia. Edmunds with I Hear You Knocking, Promised Land and I Knew The Bride, Lowe with Cruel To Be Kind. But Rockpile did a disasterous tour of Australia in the 80's and it completely destroyed their credibility.

I Don't Care *Appreciation Thread*
Someone must love the I Don't Care video. Take a look at this for similarity: k7IdRMZdZ0E Najoua Belyzel - Quand Revient L'été
-
The Sweet
They were huge in Australia. Peppermint Twist was an Aussie only single and made #1. We also had something called 'The Sweet Singles Album" that was one of the biggest selling albums of the 70s. The people who collect them in Australia are the MOST psychotic record collectors in the world. They're from another planet.

"The Chain"
Gina G was unbackable favourite to win Eurovision a few years back. Serge Gainsbourg had NO chance in 1990 with: xACrjfR8q0w Joelle Ursull - White and Black Blues

"The Chain"
One of the greatest Santana rip off bands was Titanic. Here's their biggest hit: 19FgW_gWBkk Titanic - Sultana Great video as well.

"The Chain"
Anyone in their right mind would say Elvis Presley was the King of Rock'n'Roll. However, this guy is totally out of his mind :D _YWszcLGCSE Little Richard - "Long Tall Sally"

The Troggs
This Antoine guy is sooooo good. Remember British rock was Gerry & The Pacemakers and The Dave Clark Five at the time and the album chart was dominated by The Sound of Music and The Black & White Minstrals. Check out some more Troggs influenced pop ij7oQdocNEg Antoine & Les Problems mTyIt_1hYOg Antoine - Un Éléphant Me Regarde I can't find clips for some of the great French Troggs influenced girl-pop. But take a listen to the Pop a Paris collection on Universal and you'll get the drift. The Troggs rule :P
-
The Troggs
Here is the missing link between The Troggs and The Ramones C6Y7j-UTnG8 Antoine - Les elucubrations This is the song that revolutionised French rock :D nRKpUUVpufo Ronnie Bird - I Can Only Give You Everything TsL96xHbm6Q Jacques Dutronc - Les Cactus All heavily influenced by The Troggs.
-
The Troggs
They knew how to produce hit singles. Reg Presley was one of the BEST UK vocalisst. In France they were as big as the Stones. Listen to Jacques Dutronc or Ronnie Bird's mid 60's tracks and they're 100% influenced by thge Troggs. Almost every rock single produced in France in 1966 owes something to The Troggs. TRUE.
-
Hall & Oates
A lot of their tracks had a US mix and a Euro mix. They were possibly the first band to do this. In the UK they tried to appeal to the New Romantics while in the States it was the R&B crowd. Daryl Halls solo album Sacred Songs was produced by Robert Fripp of King Crimson and forms a trilogy with Peter Gabriel 2 and Robert's own Exposure LP. Have a listen . You might like it. :P

The Troggs
Incredibly under-rated. A really good singles band. I Can't Control Myself was banned in Australia for years. is ESSENTIAL listening for any would-be musician (it's on a bonus disc with the Anthology :) )
