Sales Predict: Coldplay
The record company knows Viva La Vida will be number one in the release week even with the first day's sales. I think they want to move part of the sales to the other week to secure a second week at number 1.

iTunes Download Chart June '08
I know, sadly :( and I really don't get it. Isn't the video played on music channels in the UK? Didn't Radio1 include it in their playlist? What happened there? I don't understand how a song like Stop and Stare (which I also like) will be so succesful and Say (All I Need), which is clearly a better song IMO, will be such a complete flop. At this time I think it'll be a success if it enters the top 60 <_< . It is really annoying to see both of the previous singles higher on the chart in the week of physical release of the current single. *end of rant*

Shirley Manson album with Paul Buchanan shelved
The thing is that for what we know most of the album is already recorded. Shirley collaborate with a lot of quality artists for this. The list is quite impressive: Billy Corgan (Smashing Punpkins) Beck Jack White (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, etc.) Paul Buchanan (Blue Nile) Eric Avery (Jane's Addiction, Garbage) Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Beck, The Flaming Lips, Kylie Minogue, Red Hot Chili Peppers) David Arnold ( The Cardigans, Kaiser Chiefs, Massive Attack, Pulp, Natasha Bedingfield, Björk) Shirley presented the album to the executives of her record company (Warner) and they declared it to be "too noir". I actually find nothing negative in the word "noir". (and so does Shirley). However the record company meant it in a negative way. And that's their reason for not releasing the album. They simply expected Shirley to be the next Gwen Stefani and produce some teeny-bopper, cheesy, poppy record. I have personally not heard the actual record so I cannot judge the quality of the music. All I know is that if the artist is satisfied with what they have produced they should be able to release it the way they want it and NOT bend down to the greedy record company wishes.

Shirley Signs on for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Shirley Manson definitely won't be playing a "stupid girl" in a hit new series this fall. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Garbage" frontwoman Shirley Manson has been cast in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. She will become a series regular, portraying Catherine Weaver, the CEO of a state-of-the-art technology corporation. This is the first major acting role for Manson, whose band "Garbage" burst on the scene in 1995 with their self-titled album that went double platinum with the help of the popular singles, "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Stupid Girl." No production schedule for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been released, but they are still slated for their second season debut this fall. The show debuted in midseason and was the highest-rated new scripted series of the whole season. source: http://www.movieweb.com/tv/news/60/28960.php haha.. this was totally unexpected! I can't believe I'll have to watch a Terminator movie! :D

Saving the physical singles market
My main reason to be "devastated" is because no physical singles = no b-sides. It is very rare for a non-album, b-side track to be made downloadable. B-sides allow a band to be more experimental with what they produce. Of course this is not always true, especially with pop artists who prefer putting remixes on their physical singles. However with the types of bands I listen to B-sides are sometimes even better than album tracks. And even if you mainly buy a single to listen to the music, if you are a real music fan it is always nice to have a new artwork or even a new picture of your favourite band. Download tracks are much more impersonal. They are ok for one-off download of a song you like, but if you are a fan of a certain band I think physical singles are much better.

So true! I liked Stop and Stare too, but Say (All I Need) is much better. It does not deserve to flop like it looks it will. :( I really don't understand why it is not climbing on itunes. I doubt they have sold that many copies of Dreaming Out Loud. The video is pretty good too (excluding the Lacoste commercial elements). Nothing groundbreaking but still quite pleasant.
