Seems like "200 million streams" is being treated as the new "million seller" in a way. Prefer that, because chart sales doesn't mean anything.

Good to see them updating both lists, and that they have seemingly given up trying to combine them. Would've been nice to have the full sales figures too though.

Sam has confirmed album is now out December 9th, with a really sweet video message explaining that he just needs some time out with family before heading straight from a tour into album promotion. (I suspect it suits the label too though!)

For me it's one of those rare songs you hear on the radio and go "wow, what's this?" so I guess it's just connecting with people. I can see it being a slow burner over the coming months. Just needs someone to dance to it on Strictly or something. Actually first heard it on local BBC radio bizarrely enough

Bizarre and frustrating that the Sigala track is #14 on Apple and not even top 200 on Spotify.

IIRC, they changed the rule because of the low-key furore over the Groove Is In The Heart tying with The Joker on panel sales thing. And then Millward Brown got rid of it again in 1994. I seem to remember seeing a single on the MW report with the same sales at some point in the last 5 years or so, but the tie must've been decided by fractional sales as mentioned above.

They might not have been expecting to challenge for #1 in week 1 though

I think Spice Girls' Headlines CD single came out 1 week after Greatest Hits, though it came out 1 week before it on download.

Katie Melua's Closest Thing To Crazy came out 4 weeks after the album.

I'm fine with the ratio of streams to sales as they are, but the chart is still staler than I'd like. For me, the chart is there to serve a purpose, and that's to promote new records. So I'm fine with fiddling with the data to make the chart faster and reflect the popularity of new songs. ACR does an OK job but it's a rather blunt instrument. I'd rather they did something cleverer that increased the ratio gradually as time went on.

Maybe "Without U"? It wouldn't be the first time an artist has had 2 songs with the same name though.

I'm somewhere in the middle really. Yes, everyone with a fanbase does it, and a #1 is a #1.. but with the market as it is now, it doesn't mean the same as it did in the pre-digital era. It's still somewhat of an achievement for a band to hold on to enough fans after 25 years to buy enough copies to get to #1 I suppose. And the number of arenas they can still fill out is genuinely impressive.

Ah, so close to coming 3rd in the all time stakes!
