It's only 5 minutes before 12! And it has been earlier than this so it's not too bad.. and less likely to clash with Christmas dinner :D They might be able to announce the Christmas number one - they did so in 1994 and 2005.

I think they've just quoted the original version of the BBC News online article.

    Good news

No sign of it in the BBC press release. Guess it's not on :(
  5. Wouldn't that be a rather hollow victory, then?

I share your fears, but if we didn't find out until the 26th last year, there's still hope. Generally it's only confirmed in the annual "here's what's coming this Christmas on the BBC" from the press office - and we've not had that yet. In fact, it's been the Tuesday of that week going back the last 3 years at least.. so perhaps next Tuesday will be the day we'll get confirmation

  10. I have a look because I can sometimes discover a decent new song that I've missed And despite the low sales, it's interesting that the chart still largely makes some sort of sense - it feels like a continuation of the chart pre-2015, rather than just the big mess you would expect it to be. It's a lot more reactive than the streaming chart - a high profile TV appearance or a death has more of an impact. And I like that it's less hip-hop/rap oriented.

  13. Nah.. there's a distinct lack of genuine monster crossover hits around at the moment. Feels to me like a lot of the stuff making top 5 is getting there by default. Bad times.
  14. Oh, I hate that. It's so ignorant to not check whether your chosen name is already in use. They might not have had a hit in years but they were massive in the 90s.
  15. He would've still had 3 solo hits in the top 40 though, with Careless Whisper at 18. Plus he died "inconveniently" in the middle of a chart week. Comparable with Whitney.

I really like this and the only other ballad I know from them is Many Of Horror.. any others you can recommend?

I still use it all the time (via Siri).. mainly when I hear something I don't recognise on the TV or if it's a remix of a song I know. It's pretty clever. It sometimes even manages to pick up songs playing on the background in EastEnders.. I believe Radio 1 use it as one of the metrics to decide whether to playlist something

The revised chart was never published so of course all sources used the original. We only got to see the chart when OCC launched their new website in the 2010s
  20. Ace Of Base - Wheel Of Fortune (Singlewave Remix) - new 2020 remix single out tomorrow
  21. Based on the artists I recognise, you've got similar tastes to me.. I too like to listen to a variety of mainstream pop and dance from across Europe, so gonna check out some of the songs I don't know!
  22. Don't forget Big Top 40 is also a very visible chart - Steps went in at 3 there If she has no chance of making official top 40 anyway there's no point in releasing on a Friday. She's better off not being on the top 100 at all than at 80 or something.
  23. I know you don't do boxsets but as well as Elton John's 8CD Jewel Box coming out in November, it looks like Deep Cuts 2CD will come out separately on Oct 16, which is quite a good idea https://www.amazon.co.uk/TBC-VINYL/dp/B08GV...6734&sr=8-1
