I think it'll be a bit sad if it flops really badly. I actually think Trevor's done a really nice job on the new version. I can see both sides in the political debate but the previous versions + Live Aid did raise huge amounts of money and led to other things like Comic Relief. Bob Geldof can be annoying but his heart's in the real place, so I don't think he deserves the indignity of this version flopping.

Not sure whether they should combine or not, but no brainer for OCC to reset to SCR either way. Don't understand what they're playing at with the release date. Why release to radio and Spotify on a Monday, do all the press and then not release the download and physicals till Friday Makes no sense. Oh, except the 25th was the actual 40th anniversary to be fair. But I fear the gap might affect sales, especially as Ladbaby has shown, it's getting harder to get people out of the habit of downloading to do it.
  3. Jenny Berggren (Ace of Base) has a new single called Lion's Den out tomorrow
  4. Is Band Aid 40 doing absolutely nothing then? 22,000 streams on Spotify so far WTF?

Yeah it's the best version since the original I think. Thought it ended a bit abruptly though. It'll do well.

I'm a little bit intrigued. I have a feeling Trevor will pull something out of the bag.

But they wouldn't all be eligible

Yeah, it doesn't have to be the same 3 formats forever, otherwise reissues would never have worked. I think the label can choose which ones count as well.

Only 3 variants can count towards chart position though

The 12" has too many tracks. 7" is probably OK.

Yeah it's the white saviour thing, some of the lyrics being questionable and the portrayal of an entire continent as helpless. I get the dilemma for Ed.

Yeah, and it did rise back up to number 3 for Christmas week. I do think it'll do well for a week or two but I don't see people enthusiastically downloading it in Christmas week, just in order to get it to the Christmas #1 if it's already been out for a few weeks, and potentially already slipped down. The big unknown of course is how well playlisted it will be, and whether people consider the new version worth listening to.

Well the maxi CD and 12" vinyl have too many tracks. The other CD and 7" look OK on that basis.

Worth reminding that the Mariah vinyls aren't chart eligible. I wouldn't be putting money on Band Aid myself, considering the last one ran out of steam before Christmas. I suppose we were in a downloads dominant time then, but people will really need to like the new version to stream it ahead of the other festive faves, I'd have thought.
  15. because it would have sold about 1000 copies and not made a bean for charity
  16. It's not John Lewis either Introducing the 2024 charity Christmas video and advert, inspired by the heartwarming John Lewis Christmas adverts. The charity single, "Send Me a Sign," has been created to make a meaningful difference. Every £0.79 purchase of the single will go directly to two UK-registered charities, Re-engage and Friends of the Elderly, helping to bring support and companionship to those facing loneliness every day. Please share the advert if you enjoyed it! I created both the video and song from scratch on a budget of less than £500, aiming to raise awareness.
  17. Ava's the best Voice winner in a long time. Hope she can do something. Probably not though.
  18. You could include the Los Del Mar version of Macarena too if you like, which is entirely Spanish Going back to an old debate, I'd probably actually include Ricky Martin's Maria too to be consistent. Though the verses are in English, the chorus is in Spanish, so on that basis is as worthy of inclusion as the Los Del Rio version of Macarena? The Ketchup Song doesn't have much Spanish in it either.
  19. Did I? I have no memory of that, though it sounds like sort of thing I would do.
  20. Robbie Williams' biopic Better Man is out on Boxing Day and there is a new song called "Forbidden Road" in the credits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkcbMGgLjA4

  22. I really had no idea. Has it become particularly popular since they split? It wasn't even included on Time Flies.
  23. I'm most surprised by She's Electric. Is there any particular reason why that's doing so well?
  24. Difficult to see that explaining the difference between a track being top 10 one place and not top 200 in another though.
