  1. Show 9 is now online, featuring Louise, The Shamen, Saint Etienne, Take That, Corona and many more! There's also a bonus Eurovision special! https://www.mixcloud.com/back2the90s/
  2. IIRC, Heroes managed to crack the Spotify Top 100 for a few days, so you never know
  3. Can definitely see why keeping it short is good from a streaming point of view. It's also good for the radio - stations like to cram in as many songs as possible, so if you're short, you're more likely to make the playlist. This is particularly true of dance records - in the 2000s there was also a trend for really short UK radio edits of dance songs, sometimes brutally short!

It's way too early to stop it in the UK. We're still buying a million downloads a week! Can understand Apple's reasoning for stopping it, but some parts of the industry must still rely on download sales to make a living.
  5. I host a fortnightly podcast called Back 2 The 90s, where I play my favourite classic hits and forgotten gems from the 1990s. This week, I've done a Eurovision special and it's now online on Mixcloud. Enjoy 2 hours of ESC classics, featuring winners from Dana International and Charlotte Nilsson, UK entries from Gina G and Frances Ruffelle, runners-up from Selma and Jan Johansen, and national final contenders from Deuce and Drömhus! https://www.mixcloud.com/back2the90s/back-2...ecial-28042018/
  6. I think it might just have been because they didn't have "room" for it, as it came out of nowhere. If it had held up chart-wise better than it had they might have formally added it a week or two later perhaps. They did play it about 6 times in the week after ESC so it wasn't completely snubbed.

It was getting about 2.5 million on BBC One in 2005, and then was doing about half that on BBC Two.

I've only seen figures for the very first episode: 253k (10.3%) among 16-34s, an 11% skew Which is why I'm surprised it was recommissioned in the first place - unless they already had a deal with the production company to make at least 2 series. The first episode added less than 100k to its consolidated figure and it doesn't seem to do that well on iPlayer either.

    1.32m (8.5%) last night - a new low
  10. It was one of the worst ever chart years in fact.

It has, but it just feels like a pale imitation of TOTP now. Without the hits. It's the same mistake they made in the Andi Peters era.

I don't think they've changed that. There just haven't been any double A-sides in about 10 years! It doesn't really work in the digital era. You just release two singles at the same time.
  15. I don't know. Chaos theory and all that. Anything could've happened. There might have been completely different people in charge of those sorts of decisions, Fearne and Reggie's careers might have gone a different route. It's impossible to say. I think it's likely though that if Scott had got the chart show in 2002 he'd have moved on from Radio 1 altogether by now. He certainly shouldn't regret anything. He's had a great career and to still be at Radio 1 at his age is remarkable.
  16. Yeah me too. Will reserve judgement till we know what we're getting for that last hour but I think I would've preferred them to keep it as it is
  17. The trending chart would need to change to songs out of the top 40 and Radio 1's Most Played would be a bit odd with a lot of the same songs you've just heard in the previous 2 hours.
  18. OCC said Hi Steven, the charts will still be updated on the site as normal at 5.45pm. Hi Steven. The final hour of the show will feature chart-related content, with more details coming soon. So that sounds to me like exact same format, with Newsbeat at 5.45pm Maybe a "retro" chart or something for last hour or something dumb. If we're very lucky a breakers chart or something.
  19. If they're extending the show and not taking the opportunity to play songs outside the top 40 it'll be a big shame, especially as plenty of them are probably on the Radio 1 playlist anyway so it's not like they're irrelevant songs.
  20. I think they're quite different shows though. The Friday night one seems very commercial compared to the Saturday night one I will miss it because it's a good way of finding new dancepop songs that don't necessarily chart
  21. They don't have to give him a Radio 2 gig at all. I agree he's OK to stay on R1 for a bit yet though.
  22. Thinking about it, they are describing it as Friday being "officially part of the weekend", which might mean Newsbeat isn't on as much (I think it gets shorter slots at the weekend doesn't it?), and Dance Anthems at 6 was always supposed to signal the start of the weekend, so maybe keeping it there would be at odds with that philosophy. But Christ it'll be dull if they go back to the old-skool format of playing all 40 records. Can't imagine them extending the albums. Would be great if they did give us more of the chart 41-100 but is that just a dream?
  23. Official BBC press office also says 4-7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnew...-weekend-friday Scott Mills says: “I was sat with my Mum when I got this news, and she actually cried because I’ve been pretending to do the chart show on Radio 1 since I was 8 years old. I’ve filled in on the show so much over the years, and I can’t believe it’s actually mine. I’m beyond excited!”
  24. Mmm but on the other hand Dance Anthems works quite well in that slot too
  25. I wonder if that's a mistake - might be Steven has assumed it fills the whole slot but has forgotten that Dance Anthems exists. I'd be surprised if they gave us back the full 3 hours for Chart Show. Newsbeat will no doubt still be at 5.45. I've tweeted him for clarification
