How has Calum Scott done that again? Suddenly start selling on iTunes ages after the single was released? I am pleased though. Loving the Leona version.

The future of Greatest Hits sets
I believe the success of those best ofs are largely down to streams though

Do you miss the held back releases?
it's not that - it was that the chart was better when songs were held back because more songs had the opportunity to make the top 40 and there was more variety However, I think streaming behaviours would've meant this would've changed for the worse anyway

Spotify Chart Thread 2018 [I]
I agree with you - and that's why I'm so angry at the whole ridiculous situation we've got to where one playlist has such a direct impact on the charts. Many other people don't agree there's a problem.

Spotify Chart Thread 2018 [I]
It's going to be fascinating to see how well it does (or not) now. It's a real test of how important Hot Hits really is.

Why are you surprised? It's down to what they get paid, not how popular the songs are. And if Sony want to keep spending money on Matt Terry he'll continue to get playlisted.

An "incentive"

Or is it Spotify's fault for not putting it on there just because it deserves to be? I find the whole situation over this playlist and the clear impact it's having on our official chart disgusting.

What is that site that lets you look at what's on Spotify's curated playlists without having to go to Spotify?

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 12th January 2018
What are you guys on about? Supplies is clearly a full single too. He's basically done an Ed Sheeran but on different weeks. If people like it better than Filthy, it will do better. Maybe the label are disappointed with the reaction to Filthy so have panic released this and will give it a push. Or perhaps it was always the plan. But there's nothing stopping it from doing well.

The album was pretty much permanently in the top 20 throughout '95 though so they probably felt it wasn't necessary

Zombie's probably had a boost from some news articles (eg BBC News online) explaining what it's about I think Linger has probably had more mainstream airplay than Zombie, whereas maybe Zombie has had lot of play from the rockier stations. Who cares - they're both tunes.

Oh how awful! RIP :( (Zombie was my favourite, would expect that to do well too.)

It was officially her biggest radio hit ever in the UK in fact

Article in the Sunday Times about the charts
I've always been against YouTube being added, but I'd be interested to see what difference it makes. At least YouTube views are more "active" than "passive". And I notice for instance Calum Scott's new video has had over 6 million plays in just a few days (dunno how many are from UK but I would guess a fair few), so maybe it would give acts that don't get on Spotify's playlist a shot of charting.

No one said the charts were always perfect, but at least historically it was down to people willing handing over money for a song they wanted. Now you can chart by buying your way on to a playlist and not being offensive enough to be skipped.

I don't understand why people aren't really angry about this going on. It is making a mockery of our chart.

Pop Unlimited presents Back 2 The 90s - The Podcast
I've done a podcast! It's called Back 2 The 90s, and if you follow my YouTube channel Pop Unlimited you'll know what to expect. There are starting to be some 90s radio shows out there but they're either too cool for school or just focused on one genre. Mine focuses on pop music, but is still very eclectic. Boybands & girls bands, dance anthems, pop bangers, R&B tunes, love songs and a bit of indie/rock too. Some all-time classics, but mostly songs that you never hear any more, and some massive flops that deserved to do a lot better. It's the first time I've ever done anything like this so it's a bit student radio, but hopefully a nice mix of tunes, hope some people enjoy it! https://www.mixcloud.com/back2the90s/

Non-Top 100 / Top 200 entries
Well, it probably "exists" in that OCC internally compiles a list that goes down thousands of places (and that might only be what Alan Jones refers to as the "tracks chart", with no ACR applied), but the "top 200" is no longer a thing.
-
Non-Top 100 / Top 200 entries
There isn't one. Zobbel.de stopped doing it a couple years back so only way to get it was Charts Plus. And the top 200 no longer exists since ACR came in.

Can't believe Sigrid's Strangers still isn't top 200 considering it's A-listed on R1 and R2. Oh but look, it's not on Hot Hits UK. Ridiculous.

Article in the Sunday Times about the charts
I think it is different - a song coming up in a playlist and you not being bothered enough by it to skip it (which is no different to a radio station playing a song and you not bothering to change stations - so pretty much the same as airplay then!) vs. spending a lot on promotion, and manipulating release schedules - but in the end the customer still makes their own decision to part with cash to own the single very different
