  1. Yeah it got absolutely no support at all! I hadn't even managed to hear it once prior to the planned release date, which had already gone back a couple of times. Seemed strange to me at the time, considering it hadn't been that long since they'd had some big radio hits. I can understand it more now. It was probably just that little bit too cheesy. I love it though! I think part of the problem was that they'd just been moved to Polydor from London Records, so became a low priority for the label.
  2. It's rarely one random bet - it'll be insider information. I expect there's been an internal confirmation at her label or something that she is releasing Fastlove on Friday, so no surprise that a few people will take advantage of that to have a bet.
  3. Will never forget this chart! I remember Mark Goodier even announced the chart positions outside the top 40, which was really rare. It was also the week that Ace Of Base were due to release their "C'est La Vie (Always 21)" single. I went down to the Our Price on the Monday morning to buy it and was told it had been cancelled. Gutted!

  5. Yes, it has been. They've been extremely lucky to get a second chance, and I'm glad! They won't keep bringing it back if it stays below 2 million though.
  6. "and, as is tradition, wrap up the show with the Christmas No 1 of 2017."

They're not watching at 7.30 either though, judging on the demos.

Fingers crossed the other ones will keep going

Before the Internet, I had to do without. Why would I want to do that? I know it won't affect most people - most people listen to big artists who will never fall offline. I'm just giving my own personal reasons for why *I* can't switch to streaming, because I'm sick of people just saying I'm out of touch. And whether you're with a label or not, your music doesn't stay online indefinitely. I've seen so many digital-era songs disappear from stores already.

Yes and what happens when a record I discover in 2019 falls offline in 2025 when that independent Dutch record label goes bust?

And put it after EastEnders rather than before, or maybe even at 9/9.30.

They're talking about downloads you bought from the iTunes store being playable forever, whether they are available on Apple Music or not. Which is obvious because they don't have DRM anymore.

Pleased to hear against the odds they've got a second series. And finally they got the format right - 5 artists, 6 songs, quick chats and NO bloody sketches works quite well. It's basically TOTP without the chart now. Ironic, considering everyone involved in the show insisted that you couldn't just do a straight music show anymore.

I listen to really obscure acts. And there's plenty of top 75 hits from history that aren't even available on YouTube, let alone online stores, so I've had no choice but to buy the CD single from Discogs to get it. In future, there won't even be a CD single to buy. I've no idea about DJing with streaming services. Can you play a Spotify file in Serato or Virtual DJ or whatever?

Nobody here is saying streaming is a bad thing! All I'm saying is that there are some valid reasons why people don't want to switch, and that download sales will not collapse to almost nothing like some people think. I also think the fact the biggest download store is threatening to stop selling music downloads, purely to help boost subscriptions to their streaming service, is bad for consumer choice. I said there are plenty of people who don't *NEED* access to millions of songs, or at least not enough to pay £10 a month for the privilege. They either already have built up a library they are happy with that they only top up with a few albums a year, or they're just not into music in the same way we are. Some people are happy to just put on the radio, buy Now compilations to put on in the car, and download the occasional song on their phone when they fancy. Not going to go into the royalties issue as it doesn't interest me.

I don't see what can, which is why I find it odd that people talk about the market peaking, like people are going to stop streaming and do something else

Although streaming is a good option for most people, there are disadvantages - You can't burn to CD - Releases don't always stay online forever. Labels go bust or stop paying the fee to keep them online, international licences expire. I'm scared that songs I like now that failed to chart or were on a tiny Swedish independent label will disappear in a few years time. And if they weren't released on CD either, you're never going to be able to get that song back. - Integrating your existing library is doable, but can be messy. I'm not sure how much you can edit artwork, titles and tags for streaming songs, if you're particular about that like me. Might depend on the service. - You have to pay £10 a month forever, or you'll lose access to the songs. If you have already built up an extensive MP3 library that you are happy with, do you actually need access to millions more songs? You might only want to buy the odd Ed Sheeran single or Adele album or Now compilation now and again, rather than £120 a year.

I think they're using the falling sales as an excuse, rather than a reason. They want to encourage people to get an Apple Music subscription, and of course if you can no longer download tracks from iTunes, some people will give in. But I suspect a lot more won't bother.

Apple rumoured to be removing downloads from iTunes end of next year :( https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2017/12/06...usic-downloads/ Why don't they get that some people will NEVER pay £10 a month because they don't need unlimited access to millions of songs? I am still reluctant to make the switch to streaming because I'm so worried about songs disappearing in the future. And if they weren't ever released on CD, it's not like I'll be able to pick up a copy on Discogs. It will be lost forever.

I'd rather it was there than wasn't, but a lot more needs to be done to fix the chart
  22. Grimmy will do it I reckon.
  23. I really don't think Sounds Like Friday Night will be recommissioned, based on how badly it is rating. Anyway those who want Reggie gone got their wish http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-42231416
  24. It doesn't sound live either. The production has a lot more oomph compared to the original version. Naughty Boy has just added to the bare bones production it had, but it does sound like a bit of a rush job.
  25. Is it a studio version isn't it? I think all of this year's weekly releases have been. They used to release a recording of the dress rehearsal, but the vocals on all of them sound a lot more clearer and polished than the live versions this year. They used to be labelled as [X Factor Performance], but now it's [X Factor Recording]. Done in a rush, but still in a studio.
