It was pretty decent. Could've done with one extra act, maybe someone who isn't a big name but has something in the charts at the moment. And the sketches weren't funny. But the music bits were good. Nice set. Greg good as ever. A top 10 countdown would be good.

The problem is though they're not being very successful in lowering the average age. They're just losing listeners.

They're not just losing listeners to streaming though - they're losing them to the likes of Kiss and Capital. It's not an irreversible decline.

Grimmy's got to go. He's too divisive to be on at Breakfast. The problem is though, who to replace him with? Greg is clearly now focused on getting into TV. I'd put Scott on for a year or two to help stabilise the numbers whilst they're trying to find a long-term replacement.

They are still allowing her to chart on the sales chart though - and really they should care about that.

No issue with the timing, just the stupid way they continue to use the data.

It did well on commercial radio though - it was the sort of thing breakfast DJs played as a talking point. Chris Tarrant at Capital hammered it.

Wes tried a bit too hard to be down with the kids and made bad jokes. Mark was almost always serious, and rarely gave opinions on the artists or songs.

He didn't play all 40 records, and he was more informal than Mark Goodier. It felt a bit more like the commercial chart show and it was just a bit of a shock at the time. In retrospect though, he was much better than the likes of Fearne & Reggie and Jameela.

I think that was more to do with the change in format than Wes. That, and the chart itself becoming less relevant due to the change in the singles market.

Whilst Greg is doing Sounds Like Friday Night, Mistajam will be presenting the chart show https://twitter.com/mistajam/status/920009702351736832 Of course SLFN is on for a 6 week trial but they're clearly anticipating that it might get a longer run, so maybe Mistajam is being considered for the gig permanently. Is he any good? Am I imagining it or did he stand in a few months back? I'd be disappointed to see Greg step down. He gets the tone just right. Clearly takes the thing seriously but not too seriously. He's just the best person for the job.

Pretty sure it needs a 50% increase in "chart sales", not downloads.

How about watching it before you rant? I'm not personally excited about any of the guests announced - but they do sound like the right sort of mix for a show like this. I'm hoping it's more than 3 performances per show though - perhaps there will be 1 or 2 lesser known acts in there, or a big chart hit by a "X featuring Y" sort of thing. Also hope they run down the top 10.

She's infinitely cooler than Paloma Faith

Capital aren't constantly being told that they need to try harder to target under 30s and support new artists.

Pink's still making music that resonates with younger people as well. I don't think Paloma is.

I don't see Paloma as a Radio 1 artist at all now actually. I would've thought most of her fans are over 30. She's doing nothing on Spotify. She's Radio 2.

No, I accept that. But it's not. That's the pure sales list. I think if we want to do a list that can continue, they need to find a more intelligent way of doing it. Counting streams at 1:100 isn't it. OCC are already talking about it as a "snapshot in time" at this "transition period" rather than a replacement list.

There's already 7 new songs in the top 10 alone after just a few years of streaming! Though to be fair Happy makes it on sales alone. I don't think wanting the lists to be separate is being stuck in the past. I just don't think combining sales and streams as if they are the same thing - for the purpose of an all-time chart at least - means anything. Shape Of You being bigger than Bohemian Rhapsody, thanks to passive playlist plays? No doubt it's going to go down as a classic but it's not the third most popular song of all time.

She's with Warners. Simon just likes the song.
