Christmas #1 2023 odds & discussion
One of the "Creators" is claiming on TikTok that Amazon are putting paid downloads of their song "through as streams" because they want "Scam Ryder" to be number 1. Haha sounds like BS but funny anyway.

Top of the Pops: Review of 2023
That only really works as an argument for producing educational/factual/niche interest programmes, the sort of thing that commercial broadcasters won't touch. That doesn't mean they have an obligation to produce a new episode of TOTP every Christmas - and as a broadcaster they can point to plenty of other ways how they give airtime to pop music throughout the year.

Top of the Pops: Review of 2023
It was rather stinking up the schedule to be fair. They get more viewers putting a kids film in the slot. And I suppose it does cost quite a bit to put on 2 hours of live music. But it wouldn't hurt to make a little bit more effort on the show they do make. It was odd last year that they had Sam Ryder in the studio for a chat but he didn't even perform. I'm sure he'd have happily done a performance for him. A slightly shoddy clip show is still better than nothing for me though. Incidentally, last year's show got 523k on BBC Two.

Top of the Pops: Review of 2023
It seems like it. Surely it wouldn't cost very much to get a few easy bookings to sing in front of the TOTP logo in the Live Lounge or something!

So are Alexa plays not included in Amazon's own chart?

iTunes Weekly Thread w/c 10th November 2023
Also heard it on Scott's Radio 2 show earlier in the day, as well as twice in an hour on TOTP!

Close the thread then, no need to post anything here at all

No good if I didn't know who was #1 in the first place though.

iTunes Weekly Thread w/c 13th October 2023
Can I just ask.. why do people go to all the effort of posting updates but not bother saying who's #1? It's great so and so has sold 20 copies to make #187, but who is #1?

Christmas #1 2023 odds & discussion
I'd like to see this for both the singles and albums chart.

New Release Schedule: Friday 6 October
He's got a couple of other recent remixes under this name online There was also "The Club Theme" which reached #247 in 2005 (when the chart was a top 250 for a bit!) I think it would just be that it doesn't make sense to call it Element Four since it's not on Channel 4 now.

I would expect Radio 2 to support it at least too, maybe Radio 1 if it's really good.

She has just signed with TaP though, so I'm thinking she's going to get a proper push here this time.

Back 2 The 90s
If you like Fearne Cotton's Sounds of the 90s on Radio 2, you might also like my own radio show Back 2 The 90s, which has been going on Mixcloud now for over 5 years! The latest edition is now online in a new format, with the second hour dedicated to counting down Music Week's On A Pop Tip Club Chart, in tandem with BBC Four's TOTP 1995 repeats. The chart, now known as the Commercial Pop Club Chart, was first published in January 1995. https://www.mixcloud.com/back2the90s/back-2...w-113-02092023/ Hour 1: Smash hits & hidden gems from Louise, East 17, Michelle Gayle, Alexia and MN8. Hour 2: The On A Pop Tip Club Chart from January 1995 featuring dance anthems from Real McCoy, Strike, Alex Party and Loveland.

Favourite (and least favourite) chart hosts
Goodybags is The Don but also had to give a vote to Bruno, who was my first host (I started listening the week Whigfield went to #1 in 1994) I think they perfected the format in 1995/1996 - Mark got the right balance of being authoritive and engaging, and the imaging was on point.

OCC rule tweaks August 2023
I expect record labels have complained to ERA or OCC about it. It would have been bad for the industry to apply the rule to albums as well, because they are profitable. They're selling the singles at a loss specifically to hype a single to #1 so that's the difference. Maybe they could've set a minimum price, but I believe the price rules are based on dealer price? If they're being sold direct to consumer then there isn't a dealer price. Just a theory anyway!

OCC rule tweaks August 2023
Loreen had signed singles out on June 16 so maybe she was the last Edit - oh, maybe not then ^^

OCC rule tweaks August 2023
On the flipside, if it means they'll have to make them free P&P to make them more appealing that'll be good..

OCC rule tweaks August 2023
Oh that is a shame - I do like any opportunity to get a signed item! I do wonder how much the signature makes people want to buy it. Especially the likes of Ed and Lewis, where they've now done it so many times the novelty must've worn off?

Those who bought a CD/vinyl/cassette single or album in 2023
I like to listen to them when they first arrive, whilst admiring the sleeve. But it is usually the once because of course usually it only has 1 track on it. I do listen to the cassettes too. They're more interesting to listen to, as they have an analogue quality to them. Unfortunately they don't sound as good as they used to.

Ed Sheeran has made history today
There was a CD single released in Germany - but it managed to chart on OCC's Physical Singles Chart too because it was available through Amazon

Top of the Pops - The Missing Years
If TOTP were to come back, I just don't think it'd work tying it so closely to the top 40. I'd still have the top 10 rundown but probably not play the #1 every week if it had been there for ages, or wasn't primetime TV friendly. I'd feature a mix of songs from both the Radio 1 and 2 playlists, stuff from the albums chart, new performances of relevant retro tracks that have suddenly gone viral or a legacy act who are on tour or whatever. Just aim to make the best show for a mainstream audience as possible. And I'd put it in on a Saturday night about 6pm. Oh wouldn't that be nice.
