Whoo for Darin!

I think there'd have been too many Christmas songs in there and too high up. Much more interesting keeping them out, to see which songs are popular all year round. I wouldn't have expected the likes of Iris and Don't Stop Believing (which were big hits at the peak of the download era) to still be doing so well on streams Toto's Africa is always a bit of a confusing one for me. Why so popular now?

Have Radio 2 changed their playlist policy? I'm sure it's usually very rare for a song to last more than 5 weeks. I think it's good decision to keep some on a bit longer.

Both Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran remain superstars. It's not a competition.

I'm pleased for Benson, but what I find so baffling these days is how an artist can have a couple of big hits, followed by several singles that do absolutely NOTHING (like his excellent Little Runaway), and then suddenly he has another huge hit.

Crikey.. first time I've tuned into the chart in about 12 months and I enjoyed almost every song in the top 20. And Jack has really grown into the role too, bless him trying to make the chart sound as exciting as he can. Best presenter in many years I'd say.

Northern Line - Love On The Northern Line

Yesss. I loved it when Rhythm Is A Dancer became a viral hit in 2008, due to some advert IIRC. It would be cool if something that wasn't huge here the first time did it, like La Bouche's Be My Lover or Ice MC's Think About The Way.

Can't understand why Little Runaway didn't smash.

I suppose to begin with it was in order to compete with the commercial charts on at the same time. They probably found that they were losing a certain number of listeners who were just used to listening to the charts on a Sunday. I think it’s always been true that a lot of people aren’t too bothered whether the chart itself is official, hence the once huge figures for the Network Chart. They could probably lose it now but if they get the info cheaply from OCC they probably think they might as well stick with it. I don’t think they would get higher ratings doing something different.

So what's now the best-selling single of all time not to make #1 (on pure sales)

Good to see Sam at least top 2 - especially as all the know-it-alls at the start of the week said he'd be nowhere near! :P

4 or 5 days left of big Christmas streams to count though, and Thursday's ones will be largely fake ones!
